Above ground pool lights

Updated: October 2026

A frame pool or a soft-sided Bestway has no niche, a liner you must not cut, and a season that ends when you pack it away. Above ground pool lights fail when the mount assumes concrete and the plug assumes another country’s mains. The seven listings in our [pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light) comparison can add colour. They do not become a swimming lamp. Charging and sealing are on [how to use pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light/sub/pool-light-how-to-use). Which row to buy is on [best pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light/sub/pool-light-best). Peter F. checked the October 2026 listings. A link may earn a commission.

Why an above-ground pool is a different job

An in-ground pool can hide a cable in a niche. A frame pool cannot. The wall is a liner, a soft PVC skin, or a steel panel behind that liner, and a cut is a leak. A light that only works if it is glued for the year is a poor match for a shell you will dry in September. You want a mount that comes off, or no mount. The kept set has no magnetic steel-wall product. It has vsshe adhesive, a Vicloon pad, daphomeu suction that UK reviews say fails, and two floaters. A hole and a lead through the water is Section 702 and a competent person.

Steel, soft PVC, and vinyl

A steel-wall pool can take a magnet, with the liner between a plate outside and a light inside. This comparison does not have that product among the seven. Do not invent a magnet for the vsshe or the Vicloon. Soft PVC flexes, so a glued puck pulls and a suction cup has less to hold. UK reviews on the daphomeu pair, B0BXD57DV7, say the cups fail on a pool wall. The vsshe adhesive, on B0F87S4684 and B0H6PJJXCW, is what the bullets specify, and shared UK reviews say buyers did not want to glue a hot tub. The Vicloon pad, B0FB8YG8LP, comes unstuck. If you will not accept a mark, do not use the pad. The MR.HOKWY, B0CQV555MK, and the VISOFO, B09NVT8F6N, never touch the wall. The MR.HOKWY bullet says to let it float rather than sink it.

220–240 V kits and the 120 V listing

UK mains are about 230 V. A pool light sold for 110–120 V is the wrong appliance even when amazon.co.uk will ship it. The Intex magnetic light listed as 28697E states 120 V and a 120 V transmitter. Do not put it on a UK socket with a travel adapter. PoolPro sells an Intex magnetic LED for soft-sided PVC at £97 including VAT, on 220–240 V, and says the water side is below 12 V. That unit is outside our seven. It is still not a licence to cut the liner. SELV, in NAPIT’s note on Section 702, is 12 V AC RMS or 30 V ripple-free DC, with IPX8 in the water. Other checks sit on the pool lights buying guide.

What the kept lights can do on a frame pool

Use them as evening colour. The daphomeu pair at £8.43 can sit on the floor if you set the mode first, because reviews say you cannot retune it under water. The Vicloon pair at £29.99 is the lay-z-spa mention, at 120 lumens, and it still uses a pad. The vsshe packs claim 800 lumens and IP68 with no depth, at £20.99 or £28.99, and they want adhesive. The MR.HOKWY at £10.99 and the VISOFO at £39.99 float. The NATPOW kit is a cabled string, a poor fit for a liner. You will see colour. You will not see the floor. When you pack the pool away, peel any pad while the shell is dry, take AAA cells out, and do not fold a glued housing into the bag.

Common questions

Can you add a light without cutting the liner?
Yes, if you float the light or sit a puck on the floor. The MR.HOKWY and the VISOFO never need the wall. The daphomeu pair also avoids a cut, if you accept that the suction cups fail as a wall mount. Adhesive is not a cut, but it is a mark, and this capture does not call it safe for every vinyl. A cable through the liner is the job to refuse unless a competent person is designing the circuit.
Will a magnet work on a steel-wall pool?
A magnet can hold across a steel panel. None of the seven kept listings is that product. The vsshe and Vicloon mounts are adhesive. The daphomeu mount is suction, and reviews say it fails. A soft-wall sandwich in another brand’s manual is not a fitting guide for these ASINs. If you want a magnet, you are shopping outside this set, and you still read the volts first.
What about a soft Intex or Bestway wall?
Treat it as a skin that flexes. Suction on the daphomeu pair is already unreliable on a firmer wall. A pad on moving PVC is more likely to peel, and Vicloon reviews already describe a pad coming off a hot tub. Float the light, or look at an inlet or magnetic kit sold for that wall, outside these seven. The Bestway inlet LED is one such product. It is not a reason to pierce the wall yourself.
Why is a 120 V pool light on amazon.co.uk a problem?
UK mains are about 230 V, and a 120 V appliance is the wrong supply. The Intex 28697E listing states 120 V and a 120 V transmitter. Do not adapt it onto a UK socket. PoolPro’s Intex magnetic light is 220–240 V, described as below 12 V at the water, for soft-sided PVC, at £97 including VAT. That listing is outside our comparison. Voltage comes before glue.
Is glue safe on vinyl?
Not as a blanket yes. The vsshe bullets specify adhesive, and UK reviewers did not want to glue a hot tub. The Vicloon pad comes unstuck and can still leave a patch. A frame-pool liner is thinner and it gets folded away. If a mark matters, do not glue. Use a floater, or a floor puck you can lift. No listing here has tested its pad on your liner.
