Pool lights buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You want colour in a garden pool or a hot tub, and the listings lean on waterproof, IP68, and a remote. This pool lights buying guide separates a battery puck, a floater, a cable kit, and a fixed luminaire. The seven rows in our [pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light) comparison sit between £8.43 and £39.99 on amazon.co.uk. Named picks are on [best pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light/sub/pool-light-best). Surface versus under the water is on [floating or submersible pool lights](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-light/sub/pool-light-floating-or-fixed). Peter F. checked the October 2026 listings. What you are actually buying

The shelf in this set is decorative. It is not a niche light an electrician bonds into a pool wall. The daphomeu pair, B0BXD57DV7, is two pucks on three AAA cells, stated at 100 lumens, with no IP number. The MR.HOKWY, B0CQV555MK, is one floating disco light, and the bullet says to let it float rather than sink it. The vsshe packs, B0F87S4684 and B0H6PJJXCW, and the Vicloon pair, B0FB8YG8LP, claim IP68 and do not state a depth. The NATPOW kit, B0CQYC85DJ, is a mains spotlight string. The VISOFO, B09NVT8F6N, is one solar floater at 10–15 lumens. BS EN IEC 60598-2-18:2022 covers fixed pool luminaires, not a portable puck. None of these seven will show the floor well enough to swim after dark.

Water claim and UK wiring

A waterproof word is not a certificate. This capture prints no depth for the vsshe packs, the Vicloon pair, the NATPOW kit, or the VISOFO. The daphomeu table says waterproof. The MR.HOKWY bullet claims IP67 and tells you to let the light float. UK wiring rules bite when a cable goes into the water. NAPIT’s note on BS 7671 Section 702 describes SELV for a swimming pool: 12 V AC RMS or 30 V ripple-free DC, with IPX8 for equipment in the water. The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, as GOV.UK summarises them, treat the low-voltage band as 50–1,000 V AC. A battery puck sits under that band. A mains adapter does not. The NATPOW power line says AC/DC, and UK reviews mention a transformer failing.

Mount and control

How the light stays put matters as much as the IP line. UK reviews say the daphomeu suction cups do not hold on a pool wall, and the infrared remote stops once the light is submerged. One review puts that range at about 1 m of depth. Set the mode on the side, then lower it. The vsshe bullets describe adhesive, and buyers did not want to glue a hot tub. That UK review text is shared across B0F87S4684 and B0H6PJJXCW, so do not add 88 and 89. The Vicloon pad comes unstuck on a hot-tub shell. The MR.HOKWY and the VISOFO float, so they drift rather than aim at a step.

What the amazon.co.uk set costs

In this capture the daphomeu is £8.43, with 4.0 from 607 reviews, and the MR.HOKWY is £10.99, with 4.1 from 56. The vsshe two-pack is £20.99 (4.4 from 88), the four-pack is £28.99 (4.4 from 89), and the Vicloon pair is £29.99 (4.6 from 57). Two listings sit at £39.99: the NATPOW kit at 3.5 from 43, and the VISOFO at 3.9 from 349. Only four of 50 captured VISOFO blocks are from the United Kingdom. A higher price does not buy a pool-lighting certificate. The top pick is the daphomeu pair. The best value is the MR.HOKWY if you leave it on the surface. Charging and sealing are on how to use pool lights.

Common questions

What should you check before buying a pool light?
Check the power, then the water claim, then the mount. A three-AAA puck, a USB puck, a solar floater, and an AC/DC string are different objects. Ask whether the page prints an IP code and a depth, or only the word waterproof, and whether it glues, floats, or needs a cable in the basin. The seven listings here are decorative colour, not a fixed swimming luminaire.
Is IP68 enough on its own?
No. IP68 means the maker claims protection against immersion, and the depth and the time are supposed to be stated for that model. The vsshe packs, the Vicloon pair, the NATPOW kit, and the VISOFO claim IP68 and do not print a depth. The daphomeu table prints no IP code. Treat the letters as a claim beside the reviews, not as a pass for leaving the light in all winter.
Are AAA lights and USB lights the same idea?
Both avoid a mains lead in the water, which is the point if you do not want an electrician for one evening. They are not the same to live with. The daphomeu and the MR.HOKWY need three AAA cells behind a lid. The vsshe packs charge by USB, and the Vicloon pair uses a magnetic charge. The Vicloon remote still needs AAA cells. The port or the lid has to be closed while the housing is dry.
Do you need an electrician for a battery puck?
Not for lowering a sealed AAA or USB light into a hot tub. That job stays at battery voltage. You need a competent person when the plan becomes a cable into the pool, a niche, or a transformer left in the splash. Section 702 of BS 7671 is the context for a real pool circuit: SELV at 12 V AC RMS or 30 V ripple-free DC, and IPX8 in the water. A puck does not meet that standard by being called waterproof.
When is a pond spotlight kit the wrong buy?
The NATPOW string suits a fountain or a pond edge if the adapter stays out of the water. Skip it for a hot tub. The title says 12 lights, the items field says 8, and another field says 48. UK reviews mention dim heads, a tangled cable, and a transformer that burns out. Salt water is unanswered. A battery puck is the smaller experiment when you are not ready to run a lead.
