Round pool cover buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

A title that says 10 ft can mean the pool, the sheet, or two numbers that do not match. You are about to order a cover for a round above-ground pool, and the tape on the top ring should decide the basket. This round pool cover buying guide stays with that measurement, the rim the cover has to grab, and whether rain sits on the cloth or passes through it. The grid is the [round pool cover comparison](/hub/swimming-pools/pool-cover-round). Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, used the amazon.co.uk listings saved on 19 October 2026. There was no lab test. What to measure on a round pool

Measure the outside of the top ring or the top rail in centimetres before you open a listing. On an Easy Set or a Fast Set the top is an inflated ring, and the base can sit wider. On a metal-frame pool the rail is the edge the hem has to pass. A debris sheet has to go over the rim, so the waterline alone orders a cover that stops short. Measure with the ring as firm as it is when you swim. A half-flat ring is a smaller circle.

Overlap is not one number

Intex 28020, at about £10.34, is the listing here that prints an overlap: the bullets say 30 cm. That is a statement about that cover, not a rule for every tarp. Baches Direct says 30 cm a side. Faircovers matches the nominal size on one chart and adds about 1 ft a side on another. Treat those as retailer methods. Blue Wave’s 15 ft winter cover, outside this set, states a 19 ft sheet and a 4 ft overlap, and says it is not a safety cover. Putting that 4 ft onto a cheap drawstring invents a size. Cadoal prints a 290 cm sheet for 244 cm pools. Ousinby prints figures that cannot all be true at once.

Solid sheet, ring cover or leaf net

Rain splits this set into three behaviours. A solid sheet keeps rain off the water only while the cloth stays above it. QWORK and the Neuradical 16 ft sheet do not state drain holes, and reviews describe water in the centre. A ring cover is still a sheet, with holes on purpose. Intex 28021, 28022E and Bestway BW58032-24 print drain holes, and those holes let dirt in when the fit is slack. A leaf net is HDPE mesh: rain passes, and the Hlimior nets use clips. Jacksons says a frame winter cover can slide off an Easy Set. Fitting is on how to fit a round pool cover. Mesh is on leaf net or solid pool cover.

PE, vinyl and Oxford without a lab

The PE drawstrings are the light end: Oiieco at 310 g and about £6.99, Ousinby at 270 g, Cadoal at 630 g. Bestway BW58032-24 is 1.16 kg of PVC. Intex 28021’s title says vinyl. QWORK is 420D Oxford at 1.04 kg. Neuradical is PU-coated Oxford at 5.15 kg, with a 1.5 m strap and stakes. Intex 28020 prints vinyl, polyethylene and plastic. None of these weights is a person-load.

Listings that disagree with themselves

If two diameters are printed, do not average them. Ousinby’s title says 6 ft, the attributes say 183 cm, and a bullet says 280 cm and 8 ft. Order it only when your rim is one of those figures. The 24 ft Hlimior net prints 600 cm and an 8 x 8 m net. The 18 ft net agrees with itself: 6 x 6 m for about 5.5 m. For Intex 28020, use 8 ft / 244 cm and the 30 cm overlap. The 25 cm attribute conflicts with the title, so leave it unused. SPATA says no cover is 100 percent safe. RoSPA’s advice is a fence, a self-locking gate, and an adult watching.

Common questions

Do I measure the water, the top ring, or the base?
Measure the outside of the top ring or the top rail, in centimetres, with the ring as firm as it is in use. The base can be wider than the top. One UK review of a 12 ft cover describes a base near 12 ft with a top nearer 10 ft. The waterline matters for a solar bubble. A debris sheet has to pass the rim, so a water-only measurement orders a cover that stops short.
Is a 10 ft cover the sheet or the pool?
Read the word for and the measurement as two separate claims. Intex 28021 says the cover suits 10 ft Easy Set pools and prints 305 cm. Cadoal says the sheet is 290 cm and that it fits 244 cm pools. QWORK states 305 cm and tells you to measure first. If the title only says a pool size, you still do not know the overlap. If the listing prints two diameters, do not average them.
How much overlap do I need on a drawstring tarp?
In this set, only Intex 28020 prints an overlap, and the bullets say 30 cm. That is not a rule for every cord-hem sheet. UK retailers publish other methods: 30 cm a side, about 1 ft a side, or a nominal-size match, and those charts do not agree. A winter cover with a stated 4 ft overlap, such as the Blue Wave example outside this set, is a different product from a cheap PE tarp.
Should I choose PE, vinyl or Oxford for one summer?
Choose by weight, fixings and the rim, not by a lifespan nobody tested on these ASINs. The PE sheets here weigh 270 g to 630 g and rely on a drawstring. Oxford starts at QWORK, 1.04 kg and about £19.99, with nails and hooks, and goes up to Neuradical at 5.15 kg and about £99.99 with stakes. Intex 28020 prints vinyl, polyethylene and plastic in different lines, so that listing does not answer the material question.
Does a pool cover replace a fence?
No cover in this set is a child barrier. SPATA says no cover is 100 percent safe, and none of the 11 listings prints a person-load. PWTAG says only a cover sold as a safety cover should be used as one. RoSPA’s drowning advice for a garden pool is a fence with a self-locking gate, plus supervision while anyone is near the water. A leaf net with safety in a title is still mesh and clips.
