How to set up a Bestway pool

Updated: 21 October 2026

The delivery arrives on a sunny Saturday and the booklet shows a perfect circle on flat grass. Your job is to make the real lawn match that picture before the hose runs for hours. This page covers level ground, counting parts, and the different first day for a Steel Pro frame versus a Fast Set ring. It does not choose a model. Prices and claims below are from the amazon.co.uk listings saved on 19 October 2026. There was no laboratory test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The scored sets are in the [Bestway pool comparison](/hub/swimming-pools/bestway-pool).

Where it can stand

Bestway’s UK ground article applies to every pool here: flat, firm ground, room for the hose and the pump cable, lawn or concrete. No slope, and no sharp stones under the liner. Clear wider than the pool so you are not kneeling on thistles while poles click together. Do not pile sand under one side. The Steel Pro manual says not to level with sand, and to drain and re-level if water gathers on one side. Unofficial blogs sometimes say a frame copes with a slight slope. Bestway says do not install on a slope. Plan power before water. Run the pump from the mains, not an extension lead. Outdoor 230 V gear should sit behind a 30 mA RCD. A new circuit is an electrician’s job. Footprint, if you are still choosing size, is in the Bestway pool buying guide.

Count the parts

Open the carton in daylight and lay out poles, connectors, liner, pump and patch. A missing horizontal bar looks fine until the water bulges the wall. Reviews of the rectangular Steel Pro mention missing poles. That is not every listing. It is often enough to count before you build. Frame sets use T-connectors and numbered poles. The 14 ft MAX claims about 40 minutes with two or three people and no tools, while the assembly-required field still says yes. No tools means no spanner kit, not no labour. A Fast Set that prints components should include the ring, liner, pump and patches. Model 57456 did not give a table to quote. If something is missing, stop before you fill. Photograph the contents and the box label. Do not borrow a pole from last year’s pool.

Frame pools and Fast Set are different jobs

For a Steel Pro or Steel Pro MAX, Bestway’s UK assembly article is ground prep, a part check, horizontal bars and T-connectors, then a few inches of water so the liner seats before you fill. Never move a pool that already holds water. A half-clicked T-joint shows up later as a wrinkle or a bulge. The 10 ft MAX claims no tools at 17 kg boxed. The tall MAX is 31 kg and includes a ladder you fit after the frame is square. A Fast Set is inflate first, then fill. Model 57266 says ready for water within 10 minutes after the ring is up on level ground. That is structure ready for the hose, not 3,800 litres already inside. Check the ring is round before the water is too deep to fix a twist. Why the ring rises differently is on Bestway Steel Pro vs Fast Set.

Fill, check, and drain

Fill to about 90 percent of wall height on Steel Pro lines. Overfilling stresses the top rail or the ring seam. A bulge on one face means the ground or the frame is not level. Drain, fix the base, and start again. Do not send pool water to a stream or a storm drain. GOV.UK treats a garden dump as separate from household sewage down the wrong pipe, and still bars a watercourse. Aim the hose at a soakaway that is legal on your plot. Connect the pump as the booklet says, still without an extension lead. Cloudy water in the first week is common enough that owners blame the cartridge. That belongs with the pump, not with levelling. Setup ends with a running pump and a supervision plan, not with perfect chemistry on hour one. Store an empty frame dry. Wet poles in a shed feed the rust stories owners mention. A Fast Set folds smaller and still needs a dry place and a patch kit if the ring loses air in storage.

Common questions

What surface can it sit on?
Level lawn or firm hard standing, stones cleared, per Bestway UK. Not a slope, and not sand under one edge.
Do I level with sand?
No. The Steel Pro manual says not to. If a bulge appears while filling, drain and re-level the base.
What do I check before I connect a single pole?
Every pole, connector, liner, pump and patch against the parts list. Missing poles have shown up in reviews of rectangular sets in this category.
How full is full?
About 90 percent of wall height on Steel Pro guidance. The tall MAX quotes 9,150 litres at 90 percent fill. Do not overfill the rail or the ring.
How is Fast Set different on day one?
Inflate the ring, then fill so the wall rises. The 10-minute claim on 57266 is until the pool can take water, not until 3,800 litres are in.
How do I empty it, and when do I call someone?
Use the drain valve where one is listed, and do not send water to a stream or a storm drain. Call an electrician for a new outdoor circuit, and the retailer if parts are missing. If the pump plug does not fit a UK socket, stop.
