Sekey parasol base and wind

Updated: 22.10.2026

The canopy is in the basket and the title never mentions a stand. A Sekey parasol base is a second purchase, and the kilogram follows the size chip, not the brand. A 200 cm centre pole through a table is not a 2.7 m canopy on open slabs, and 32 mm is not a 38 mm sleeve. This page is fit, mass, and when you close the cloth. It does not rank models. The listings are the [Sekey parasol comparison](/hub/sun-shades/sekey-parasol). The weights are UK retailer rules of thumb, and they disagree. The base is a second purchase

None of these raw titles includes a base. You pay for a crank canopy and a pole. The cross-foot in the photo is not a components line. Non-UK notes mention a missing X-foot. Through a table the top shares some load, so the base can be lighter, but it cannot be nothing. A free-standing mast takes the whole sail. On a rented balcony, a bolted plate is a job for someone who can specify the fixings. Crank steps are on how to use a Sekey parasol.

Use the kilogram band for the chip, not for the brand

There is no single Sekey kilogram. Opal, which does not name these ASINs, says a centre pole up to 2 m needs about 15–20 kg free-standing and about 10–15 kg through a table, and that 2.7–3 m free-standing needs about 40–50 kg. Ruma puts up to 2.5 m at about 15–25 kg, and 2.5–3 m at about 40 kg. Helcosol's bands sit lower, about 20 kg at 2 m and about 25 kg at 2–2.7 m. Plia says 20 kg or more under 2 m free-standing, 30 kg or more at 2–2.5 m, 40 kg or more at 2.6–3 m, and more if you tilt or the plot is exposed. Do not average those tables. On 21 October 2026 the shared parent showed 200 cm selected, with 270 and 300 cm also offered. Use the up to 2 m column only for that 200 cm choice. A 270 or 300 cm chip cannot borrow 15 kg. Shade Specialists' roughly 50 kg at 3 m and under overbuys a 2 m bistro parasol. The auto-tilt chip that day was 220 or 270 cm, and the rectangle was 210 × 140 cm or 200 × 300 cm. Judge the long side, and treat a tilted canopy as Plia's heavier case.

Measure 32 mm against 38 mm

A heavy base is useless if the sleeve is wrong. On 21 October 2026 a live bullet on the shared parent, with 200 cm selected, said 32 mm. That figure is not in the raw title. Live text on the auto-tilt and rectangle pages referred to 38 mm that day, not as a raw-title promise. Do not assume 38 mm because another Sekey page prints it. A 32 mm pole in a 38 mm sleeve is loose. Opal says a loose pole spins. A 38 mm pole will not enter a 32 mm hole. Reducer sleeves are sold at 32, 38, and 48 mm. A sleeve can fill a gap you measured. It cannot prove your pole is 32 mm. Measure across the tube, not around it. If the pole will not start in, do not hammer it.

Close it before the base is asked to save you

These listings print no wind class. The base is not permission to leave the cloth up in a gust. Close it when the wind rises, when you leave, and when the forecast will move the canopy. A tilted cloth, especially on the auto-tilt title, shows more area than the same cloth held flat. Plia's extra weight is the buying consequence. The using consequence is to stand it upright and close it before the base has to catch a sail. A water-fill base counts only when it is full. Call a professional for a bolted balcony plate, or if the mast is kinked. If the new tube misses a diameter the listing stated, photograph the tape and use the amazon.co.uk return. Consumer Rights Act 2015 section 9 is about the description. It is not a reason to force 38 mm into 32 mm.

Common questions

Is the base in the Sekey box?
Not on these raw titles. You buy the canopy and the pole. A cross-foot in the photo is not a components line. Non-UK notes mention a missing X-foot, which is the same gap. Order the base separately, and do not plan the meal around a stand the title never included.
What weight for a 2 m centre pole?
Opal suggests about 15–20 kg free-standing and about 10–15 kg through a table, up to 2 m. Plia says 20 kg or more free-standing under 2 m. Use either band only for a 200 cm chip, not for 270 or 300 cm.
What weight if the chip says 2.7 m?
Move up. Opal suggests about 40–50 kg free-standing for 2.7–3 m. Plia says 40 kg or more from 2.6–3 m, and more if you tilt or the site is exposed. Do not average the shops into one Sekey weight.
Will my old 38 mm base take a 32 mm pole?
It drops in loose. Opal says a loose pole spins in the socket. The 32 mm figure is the live bullet on the shared parent, 200 cm selected, on 21 October 2026, not every Sekey pole. A 32/38/48 mm reducer can fill a gap you measured. It does not prove this pole is 32 mm. A 38 mm pole will not go into a 32 mm hole at all.
When do I close it?
Close it when the wind rises, when you go out, and before a forecast that will shift the cloth. No wind class on these listings means the base is not a licence to leave it open. Return a tilted canopy to upright, then wind it shut. Extra mass delays a slide. It does not make the parasol a permanent fitting.
The pole will not go in. Is that a fault?
Sometimes. A thicker pole than the sleeve is the wrong base, which is what one non-UK reviewer found. If the bullet stated a diameter and the tube does not match, photograph the tape and use the return route. If the tube matches the bullet and misses your old socket, replace the socket. Do not hammer the pole.
