Cantilever parasol granite base

Updated: 22.10.2026

An offset parasol puts the pole to one side of the table, so the wind load sits on a cross, not on a hole in the middle. You need a total in kilograms from the parasol maker, then a way to buy that total as plates or as one rated cantilever base. A 25 kg granite tile is one piece of that total. If your pole goes through the table, leave this page and use the [granite parasol base comparison](/hub/sun-shades/granite-parasol-base) for the centre-pole fork. Products Compared used UK retailer guides and amazon.co.uk prices from 20 October 2026. Nobody here wind-tested a plate.

Why a cantilever is not a centre pole

The arm is a lever. Ruma's UK guide says an offset pole multiplies the wind load compared with a centre pole. Corido's 25 kg wheeled base states centre-post only. Christow's 22 kg socket says it is not for a cantilever or banana parasol. The Garden Marketplace plate is solid polished granite, 25 kg on the day it arrives, with no fill and no tube. If you still have a centre pole, stop here. The next number, for an offset arm, is a total for the whole cross, not the weight printed on one tile.

The kilogram bands UK sellers actually publish

The guides do not agree. Ruma uses about 90 kg for a free arm around 2.7–3 m and 120 kg or more from 3.5 m, and says to go up a tier on an exposed site. Opal uses about 80–100 kg for 2.7–3 m. Belveo uses about 100 kg. A lower band of about 50–70 kg is not the recommendation. Use the figure in your parasol manual if it prints one. If the maker is silent, Ruma's 90 kg and 120 kg bands are the default this page follows, with the exposed-site step up. Garden Marketplace's "up to 4 m" line is not a rating for one 25 kg plate. It belongs with at least two plates, four if the spot is exposed, and with the canopy closed in wind. Nothing here is certified to BS EN 581.

Plates on the cross

One Garden Marketplace plate is 25 kg at £64.99 on amazon.co.uk. Two plates are 50 kg and about £130, which is still under Ruma's 90 kg. Four plates are 100 kg and about £260. That covers a sheltered canopy near 3 m and still sits under 120 kg from 3.5 m. A UK review used four plates for a 3.5 m cantilever. Bramblecrest's one-piece 90 kg wheeled base is £257, with a handle. Four loose plates at about £260 are a similar outlay for a different object.

What this comparison can and cannot be

Only B07CTT9M2Z in this amazon.co.uk set is a cantilever plate. The two generic rows, B0HB4M7WSZ at £68.99 and B0HJ5JMTTK at £77.99, claim 10 kg of curved grey granite and a washing-line spike. They do not state a cross-base fit, dimensions, or a star line. Ten kilograms is not a 90 kg base. Who those ASINs are for is on the best granite parasol base page. If you can place plates on a level patio, start with the 25 kg plate and the count your canopy needs: two only if the total is near 50 kg, otherwise four for a sheltered 3 m that needs about 90–100 kg, and a further look at 120 kg from 3.5 m or on an exposed site. Fitting order, including when not to lift alone, is on how to fit a granite parasol base. Plate versus socket for a centre pole is the buying guide.

Common questions

How heavy a base does a 3 m cantilever need?
Start with the figure in the parasol manual. If it is silent, Ruma's shop guide uses about 90 kg for a free arm around 2.7–3 m, and 120 kg or more from 3.5 m. An exposed garden should go up a tier. Robert Dyas's 50–70 kg line is a lower retailer view and not the target this page uses. These are guides, not a British Standard.
Is one 25 kg granite plate enough for an offset parasol?
No. Garden Marketplace sells the plate as one 25 kg tile and still asks for at least two, and four if the place is exposed. Ruma's free-arm floor is about 90 kg near 3 m. One tile on one foot leaves the cross short of that band.
How many plates make 90 kg or 100 kg?
Each Garden Marketplace plate is 25 kg, so two are 50 kg and four are 100 kg. Four plates clear Ruma's 90 kg for a sheltered canopy near 3 m and still sit under 120 kg. At £64.99 each, four are about £260. Exposed sites and 3.5 m canopies still want the higher band.
Can I put a centre-pole granite base under a banana parasol?
No. A tube under a banana or cantilever parasol is the wrong object even at 25 kg. Christow states that its socket is not for a cantilever or banana parasol. Corido states centre-post only, with reducers from 32 mm to 52 mm. The free arm needs weight on the cross. Use plates or a base the maker sells for a cantilever.
Are fillable 25 kg slabs the same as a 25 kg granite plate?
No. Belveo's 25 kg slabs are shells you fill, and the sand, once wet, stays in them. The Garden Marketplace plate is solid granite at 25 kg with nothing to fill and nothing to drain. Do not count four empty plastic slabs as 100 kg of stone.
Is a 48 kg slab pack enough on its own?
Not on the seller's own page. Gables Gardens' four-slab pack is 48 kg at £99.95, and the page wants about 100 kg. A 90 kg wheeled base, Bramblecrest at £257, is one object with a handle instead of four loose plates. Extra stone does not make an open canopy safe in a gale.
