Gazebo for a garden party

Updated: 22.10.2026

You have a date, a table, and a UK forecast that might be bright until four. A gazebo for a garden party is the roof over that table, not a marquee you will still be using on Sunday morning. Mark the footprint on the lawn, then decide whether the rain will blow in from the side, then decide whether anyone is under it after dark. The Products Compared editorial team used twelve amazon.co.uk listings captured on 19 October 2026. We did not count heads under a frame. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The rows are the [gazebo comparison](/hub/sun-shades/gazebo). The longer order of checks is the [gazebo buying guide](/hub/sun-shades/gazebo/sub/gazebo-buying-guide).

A 3 x 3 m is a table, not a marquee

Nine square metres is the usual party size in this set. E-Z UP UK puts about 4 to 6 people at a dining table, about 6 to 8 with chairs and no table, and about 9 to 12 standing. Gazeboshop's size guide, marked as estimates, is closer to 7 to 9 seated. Those bands are retailer guesses. They are not a measure of the VOUNOT or the Outsunny here. A table and six chairs pulled out will use most of 9 m². The occupancy cell on the 3.6 x 3.6 m VOUNOT says 4 people on a stated 12.96 m². If the chairs already touch the edge in your sketch, you wanted 13.5 m² or 18 m².

Walls if the rain is sideways

A roof alone stops vertical sun and a shower that falls straight. Rain on the wind makes an open side a gap. The dark grey Outsunny 3 x 3 m includes two removable walls. Four walls come on the Snenblume, on two grey VOUNOT 3 x 3 m listings, and on the ONEANU. Six come on the VOUNOT 3 x 6 m. The All Seasons rows here, and the RELAX FIELD, do not list walls. More panels are more sail. The £71.49 VOUNOT includes four sides and still says it is not for inclement weather. The £64.49 VOUNOT is water repellent at 160 g/m². The Outsunny 3 x 3 m is water resistant, with a UPF 30+ highlight.

What is in this comparison for a home party

For a 3 x 3 m with a 4.2 star line, the dark grey Outsunny at £79.99 matches a home party here: two walls, water resistant, four sandbags and twelve stakes. The seller says not to leave it up in heavy weather. Skip it if you wanted four solid walls. A 2 x 2 m blue Outsunny at £45.98 is the small barbecue: 4 m² and four walls, with no weight bags listed. The grey VOUNOT at £160.49 is 18 m² with six walls, and reviews wanted four to six people to open it. The pitch, including empty bags, is the how to weigh down a gazebo page.

After dark

Which? says leave a pop-up up overnight only if you are confident gusts will not exceed 15 mph and it is pegged or weighted. Some models in that test flipped in a light wind. The black All Seasons file includes a lift when the unit was weighted and screwed down. Outsunny says not to leave these pop-ups in heavy weather. VOUNOT says not for inclement or unsupervised use. All Seasons warranty text on the 3 x 4.5 m in this comparison treats leaving it up as negligence. On a different All Seasons 3 x 3 m, which is not one of these ASINs, overnight use can void a warranty. A roof that must be there in January is a hardtop, and it is not in this table.

Table first, then the night

If the chairs already touch the edge of a 3 x 3 m sketch, you wanted 13.5 m² or 18 m², and more people to pitch it. If the rain will blow sideways, count the walls in the bullets before you promise a dry lunch. If anyone is still under it after dark, the seller line still points at taking it down.

Common questions

Will a 3 x 3 m cover a dining table?
Yes, for a modest table. E-Z UP UK estimates about 4 to 6 people seated under a 3 x 3 m, about 9 m². If your table is already long, look at the 3 x 4.5 m All Seasons, stated as 13.5 m², or a 3 x 6 m at 18 m².
How many people can stand under it?
Retailer guesses for a 3 x 3 m cluster around 9 to 12 standing. They are not a measured capacity of these gazebos. Plan the seated number first. Standing room is what is left around the chairs.
Do I need side walls for a British shower?
You need them when rain blows sideways onto the table. A roof alone is shade and a vertical shower. Two walls, as on the dark grey Outsunny, cover the worst side. Four walls enclose more and catch more wind.
Is a 2 x 2 m enough for a small barbecue?
It can be, for two to four people. The blue Outsunny is 4 m², with four walls and a water-resistant cover, at £45.98 in this capture. It stops being enough when you add a six-seater. Then you want about 9 m².
Can it stay up overnight after the party?
Only if you trust the gusts to stay at or below 15 mph and the feet are held down, which is Which?'s line, and only if the seller agrees. Outsunny, VOUNOT and the All Seasons warranty text here all point towards taking it down.
Is a £42 flat-pack a party roof?
The BIRCHTREE at £41.68 is a steel-tube kit with 120 g/m² polyethylene, four walls, and 3.2 from 205 reviews. Reviewers described a collapse, sides that held water, and joints that needed screws. It is a weak roof for guests you have already invited.
