Fillable parasol base buying guide

Updated: 22.10.2026

The parasol is already in the shed, and the base is the part that never arrived with it. A fillable parasol base is a hollow stand you load yourself: four plates for a cantilever cross, a socket for a centre pole, or a fabric bag that adds sand to a stand you already have. Buy the wrong one and the frame stays unweighted. This page is the decision tree. The ranked listings are on our [fillable parasol base comparison](/hub/sun-shades/fillable-parasol-base). Start with the frame you already have

Look at the metal on the patio before you look at the kilograms. A banana, offset, or cantilever parasol usually stands on a steel cross. The weights for that frame are four plates that pin over the arms of the cross. In this set those plates are Straame B094DDRZ55, Straame B094DBS9D1, and VOUNOT B0F1CJ7NM7. The cross is not in VOUNOT's included line, and one Straame review says it was not in the box either. A centre pole that drops through a table needs a socket. Kawiithn B0H8366HQQ says 25 mm to 60 mm, with no litres and no reviews. Plates will not grip that pole. A bag will not give you a socket. A bag is the third buy, and only if a stand is already there. If you still have a bare cross, the plates come first. Who should skip each listing is on the best fillable parasol base page.

What the listing must show

Once you know the type, the listing has to show the number that matches it. For plates, read the water figure and the sand figure as two loads. Straame's bullets say 60 kg with water or 80 kg with dry sand, 15 litres in each piece. VOUNOT says 60 litres of water or 100 kg of sand. Water is about 1 kg per litre, so 60 litres is about 60 kg. Treating 80 kg or 100 kg as the weight you get from the hose leaves a cantilever light. For a socket, the number is millimetres, not a sand headline. Kawiithn prints 25–60 mm and then stops. Measure the pole before you trust the range. For a bag, the listing should say sand is not included. A 3.5 inch ring is a hole size, not a promise that every pole will pass through it. The cross-fit detail is the cantilever parasol base weights page.

Mistakes that look like the right base

The parcel line is the error that looks like a size. Both Straame listings print 15 × 5 × 20 cm on the product dimensions line. The bullets say about 48 cm or 50 cm a side. A 15 cm parcel is not a plate you can stand a 3 m parasol on. If the live page still shows that tiny line, use the bullet size. Cococheers B0H44ZNBRZ is £179.99, claims 150 kg of water, and has no star line. One bullet also describes a Purple Leaf parasol. Wheels on an empty shell are not a trolley for a full tank. Solid concrete and resin bases are a different product. You do not fill them. No British Standard for domestic parasol ballast turned up in the sources used here. A heavier claim does not mean the parasol will not tip. Close it when the wind rises.

Questions before you order

Answer three things in order, then stop. First, is the frame a cross, a centre pole, or a stand you already own? Second, does this listing state the pair of fills, or the pole range, that matches that frame? Third, is the cross, the sand, or the parasol actually in the box? Bags in these extracts are about £10–£20, and the sand is extra. Four-plate sets are about £37–£60. If the frame is a cross, do not add a socket just in case. If the only open question is water, sand, or gravel, use the sand or water page.

Common questions

Do I need four plates, a socket, or a sand bag?
You need plates if the parasol stands on a steel cross. You need a socket if a centre pole has to drop into a hole, and the listing states a millimetre range you have measured. You need a sand bag only when a stand is already there and you want more weight on it. The three buys do not substitute for each other.
Will plates fit a centre pole through a table?
No. The Straame and VOUNOT sets are plates for a cross. They do not include a socket sized for a 38 mm or 48 mm pole. Measure the pole. Do not order plates and hope the pole will stand in the gap.
Is the cross included with fillable weights?
Do not assume it is. VOUNOT's included components are four slabs. One Straame review on B094DBS9D1 says the cross was not in the box. If your parasol did not come with the steel base, you need that frame as well as the plates. Pins in the box are not the cross.
What pole size is a centre-pole base made for?
In this set, only Kawiithn B0H8366HQQ states a range, and it is 25 mm to 60 mm. There is no litre figure beside it. Other listings talk about a 3.5 inch ring on a bag, which is a hole in fabric, not a plastic socket.
Are concrete and resin bases in this comparison?
No. A solid concrete disc, a resin half-round, and a plug for a table hole are not fillable bases. You do not pour water or sand into them. If the page you are reading sells a finished kilogram with no fill, it is a different aisle.
