Beach chair buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are in a car park above a British beach with two listings open, and both say beach chair. One seat is about 19 cm off the sand. The other is a pair whose table weight may sit above 6 kg. This beach chair buying guide puts the decisions in order: seat height, then whether you can carry it, then whether the load and the metal agree with themselves. Prices and the ten-row shortlist stay on the [beach chair comparison](/hub/sun-loungers/beach-chair). Figures are from those listings on 19 October 2026. Products Compared did not weigh the chairs.

Seat height before the fabric

Colour is the easy click. Height decides whether you lie back or whether you can stand up. In this set the low #WEJOY states 18.99 cm, the ARURU pair states 36 cm, the extra-wide #WEJOY states 39.12 cm in the bullets, and the EVER ADVANCED pair states 50 cm. Those are different jobs, even when every title says beach. Low is not a standard. Other shops use the word near 8 cm and near 25 cm, and neither figure is one of these ten chairs. If the listing omits the centimetre, you do not have a height. The low OVERMONT, the Portal pair, the HomlyPro folder and the Beach Master do not state one. United Kingdom reviews of the 18.99 cm #WEJOY include a painful knee if you already struggle to stand from the floor. The centimetres are compared on low beach chair vs high beach chair.

One chair or a pair, and the weight you will carry

The price on the tile is not always one chair. Portal's low mesh pair is £53.99 for two. ARURU's higher backpack chairs are £99.99 for the set. EVER ADVANCED's padded pair is £129.99. A single low OVERMONT is £29.40, and a single extra-wide #WEJOY is £39.99. If you only need one seat, a pair is a different purchase. One United Kingdom review of the ARURU listing said a two-pack was shown and one chair arrived. The table and the bullets often disagree on weight. Portal's table says 6.4 kg and the bullets say 3.2 kg. ARURU's table says 6.1 kg and the bullets say 4.9 kg. EVER ADVANCED's table says 13.5 kg and the bullets say 6.1 kg with a bag. You will feel the heavier number on the walk from the car park. As a rule of thumb only, about 1 kg fits a daypack, about 3 to 5 kg is a shoulder carry, and a 13.5 kg pair belongs in the boot. Who should skip that pair is on the best folding beach chair UK page.

Load figures and BS EN 581-2

A large kilogram on the title is not a passed furniture test. BSI's BS EN 581-2:2015 sets mechanical tests for outdoor seating, including camping use, on a basis of users up to 110 kg, and it does not age the chair in salt or sun. The 2026 edition is dated 31 October 2026, so on 19 October 2026 the edition to cite is still 2015. A seller figure above 110 kg does not mean that listing was tested to the standard. We are not claiming a certificate for any of these ten chairs. Read both numbers before you trust either. The low #WEJOY table says 120.2 kg and the bullets say 400 lb. Those are not the same figure, because 400 lb sits well above 120.2 kg. Portal's title says 150 kg and the table says 100 kg. The oversized OVERMONT title says 227 kg and 500 lb, while the table says 450 lb. The low OVERMONT is quieter: the table prints 330 lb and the bullets print 150 kg, and 150 kg is about 331 lb, so that pair of lines is one claim in two units. Say both in a sentence. Do not leave them as a slash. If a chair fails ordinary use, the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, is the place to start. Goods should be of satisfactory quality, including durability, against the description and the price. This page is not legal advice.

Frame and fabric only after those three

Trust an aluminium claim when the listing says it once. Do not trust it when the same page names two metals. The low OVERMONT claims aluminium and a steel frame. ARURU says steel in a bullet and iron on the table. Portal states powder-coated alloy steel, which is coherent. Powder coat is what you rinse after a salty day. It is not a promise that a scratch will ignore the sea. The extra-wide #WEJOY states alloy steel. TREKOLOGY and Beach Master state aluminium. HomlyPro says metal and does not name the alloy. Fabric comes last. Teslin on the Portal pair is a mesh beach seat. 600D Oxford on the ARURU and the extra-wide #WEJOY is a tighter weave. EVER ADVANCED's highlight says 6 cm of padding, and United Kingdom reviews put the filling nearer 2 cm, about 0.6 cm, or almost nothing. That dispute belongs on the product row. None of it replaces height, carry or load. Thin feet and wind are a different page: beach chair for sand. You want one seat height you can live with, one carry weight you will lift, and one load line that does not fight the other line on the same page.

Common questions

What should you check before the colour?
Check the seat height in centimetres, then the weight you will carry, then whether the load and the frame metal are stated once. A cup holder can wait. If the height line is missing, as it is on the low OVERMONT, the Portal pair, the HomlyPro and the Beach Master, you are guessing how hard it will be to stand up. The main comparison keeps each missing line visible.
How high is a low beach chair in this set?
The only low chair here with a stated seat height is the #WEJOY recliner at 18.99 cm. Other shops use low for seats near 8 cm and near 25 cm, so the word is not a shared measurement. The low OVERMONT does not print a seat height at all. If 19 cm is already a problem for your knees, treat that #WEJOY figure as the concrete example and read the height comparison before you buy a chair that omits the number.
When is the price for two chairs?
Portal at £53.99, ARURU at £99.99 and EVER ADVANCED at £129.99 are pair listings in this set, checked on 19 October 2026. A single low OVERMONT at £29.40 is one chair, even where Number of items prints 4. Divide a pair price only if you will use both seats. One ARURU review said the page showed two chairs and one arrived, so the box still has to match the title.
Does a load above 110 kg mean it was tested to BS EN 581-2?
No. BS EN 581-2:2015 uses a test basis of users up to 110 kg, and it does not cover ageing from sunlight or salt water. A title that says 150 kg or 227 kg is the seller's figure. It is not evidence that BSI tested that amazon.co.uk listing. We did not see a certificate for these ten chairs, and a higher number is not a reason to call the chair safer.
When can you trust an aluminium claim?
Trust it when one line names aluminium, or aluminium alloy, and a second line does not name steel or iron. TREKOLOGY's pole chair is that simpler case. The low OVERMONT is not, because aluminium and a steel frame both appear. ARURU's steel bullet against an iron table is the same kind of split. If the metals disagree, keep both words and do not pick the one you prefer.
What carry weight is reasonable for a walk from the car park?
As a rule of thumb, about 1 kg fits a daypack, about 3 to 5 kg is a shoulder carry, and a table weight of 13.5 kg for the EVER ADVANCED pair is a boot job. Use the heavier of the table and the bullets when they differ, such as Portal's 6.4 kg against 3.2 kg. The lighter highlight is not the weight on the path if the table is higher.
