Sauna heater buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to order one heater for a home cabin, a steam shower, or a garden tent, and the amazon.co.uk results are not one product. A kilowatt figure in the title does not tell you the type, the room band, or the supply. This sauna heater buying guide walks those checks in the order that stops a wrong order. The [sauna heater comparison](/hub/steam-baths/sauna-heater) is the table of the seven listings, with shelf prices taken from the raw files on 20 October 2026. Products Compared did not test these units in a lab. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three products share the name

An electric stone stove, a steam generator, and a wood tent stove can all appear under “sauna heater”. They do not heat the same room. A stone stove is a wall unit for an insulated dry cabin. You buy the stones separately and ladle water onto them. In this set that group is the two Mxmoonant 6 kW stoves and the Anjur dry wall stove. A steam generator heats water and sends vapour to a nozzle. The Caiqinlen and the CGOLDENWALL are that group, with printed bands of 35–55°C and 25–55°C. The WILLOWYBE is a 16 kg stainless wood stove for an outdoor sauna tent and for cooking. It has no kilowatt figure and no plug. Match the room you already have before you compare prices. A tiled shower is the wrong place for a stone stove, and an indoor cabin is the wrong place for the tent stove. The Alvinlite title says wet and dry, though the bullets give no stone weight and no steam-generator parts, so that phrase is not a third climate you can trust from the title alone. If you are still choosing the climate, the steam generator vs sauna heater page holds that decision. The price does not tell you which of the three products you have opened.

Room band before kilowatts

Harvia’s English power guide, which is a maker’s method and not a test of these listings, starts at about 1 kW per cubic metre of finished internal volume, then adds 1.2 m³ for each square metre of glass or bare masonry. It also tells you to sit near the middle of that heater’s own range, rather than on the top edge. Use one method, and then read the band printed on the listing you are about to buy. A flat “6 kW” in a title ignores the door. A 2 m × 2 m × 2 m cabin is 8 m³ before glass. One square metre of glass adds 1.2 m³ on Harvia’s rule, which lands near 9.2 m³. Both Mxmoonant listings stop at 9 m³, so that worked shape sits on the top edge of their printed band. The CGOLDENWALL steam unit prints 3–4.5 m³ at 25–55°C, which is a different machine. The Anjur, Caiqinlen, Alvinlite, and WILLOWYBE do not print an electric room band in this file. The full arithmetic, including the log-wall factor, is on the sauna heater size calculator page. Do not borrow a Harvia model’s band and paste it onto a marketplace heater.

Supply, plug, and stones

SaunaShop’s shop method divides watts by 230 to estimate current. On that method, about 3 kW is the region of a BS 1363 13 A plug, 4.5 kW is about 20 A, and 6 kW is about 26 A. Those amp figures are a pointer, not a cable size and not a breaker to copy from a forum. None of the seven listings here includes a plug-and-play 13 A lead. Both Mxmoonant notices say there is no plug and that a licensed electrician should wire the heater, and both print single-phase and three-phase on the same page. Stones are extra where the listing says so. The WS-37-WJY asks for 18–20 kg, the WS-15-WJY for 14–18 kg, and the Anjur for 20 kg. Budget that weight before you treat the shelf price as the cost of a working stove. A steam unit needs a water feed and a drain rather than a basket of stones. The CGOLDENWALL box list names a drain valve. The Caiqinlen listing does not state a drain. In England and Wales a new circuit is notifiable under Part P, and a room with a sauna heater is a special location. The sequence of what you may assemble, and what the electrician owns, is on the how to install a sauna heater page. Scotland and Northern Ireland use their own building rules.

What to do with a clash on the listing

Order only when the type, the listing’s own room band, and the supply agree. If two of those three are missing or they contradict each other, stop at the title. The CGOLDENWALL voltage field says 220 V and the pattern field says 380V. The Anjur title says 3–6 kW and the colour field says 4.5 kW, so the file does not give one current to hand an electrician, and it prints no cubic-metre band. The Alvinlite states one 6 kW figure and then omits the room band, the stone weight, the plug, and the body size. A UK review on that listing says there were no instructions. Those gaps are reasons to skip, not puzzles to guess. The WILLOWYBE at £221.99 is a wood stove. Skip it for an indoor cabin, and do not treat 164 reviews as proof it is smoke-exempt. This file does not show a Defra exemption. The Caiqinlen at £193.05 prints a temperature band and a timer, and it does not print a room volume.

Common questions

Is a steam generator the same as a sauna heater with stones?
No. A stone stove is for a dry insulated cabin, and you pour water on stones you buy separately. A steam generator heats water and sends vapour into a sealed wet room, often in the 25–55°C band printed on these steam listings. They share a search term on amazon.co.uk and they do not share a room. Pouring ladle water onto a steam unit is not the same job as pouring it onto stones.
Will a 6 kW heater run from a normal socket?
On SaunaShop’s shop method, 6 kW is about 26 A at 230 V, which is well above a 13 A BS 1363 plug. Both Mxmoonant 6 kW notices say the plug is not included. A 4.5 kW steam unit is about 20 A on the same method. An electrician confirms the circuit. Do not treat a CE line on a listing as a wiring certificate.
Are the stones in the box?
On the Mxmoonant pages they are not. The WS-37-WJY asks for 18–20 kg and the WS-15-WJY for 14–18 kg. The Anjur bullets ask for 20 kg and say the stones are not included. A UK review of the cheaper Mxmoonant says rocks were not supplied and the buyer reused stones from an older heater. Add that cost before you compare shelf prices.
What if the listing shows both 220 V and 380 V?
Leave the clash unresolved until you have the wiring diagram or the data plate. The CGOLDENWALL prints 220 V in one field and 380V in another. Both Mxmoonant notices say 215–240 V single-phase and 380–415 V three-phase. That is not a choice you settle from the title. Hand it to the electrician before anyone designs the circuit.
Can the wood tent stove go indoors?
Not on the evidence in this file. The WILLOWYBE is described as an outdoor sauna tent stove and a cooker, 16 kg, with a damper and a spark-arrestor claim. Reviews in the sample mention smoke from seams and a chimney joint. A Defra smoke-control exemption was not confirmed. Keep the flue outdoors, and use an electric row if the cabin is inside the house.
