9kW sauna heater buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are fitting a home cabin or a steam shower, and amazon.co.uk is offering machines that all say 9 kW. That figure is the electrical load. A 9kW sauna heater buying guide is worth using only after you separate a stone stove from a steam generator, because the temperature and the box contents are different jobs. On 20 October 2026 the seven listings in our [9 kW sauna heater comparison](/hub/steam-baths/sauna-heater-9kw) ran from £245.00 to £990.00. We did not heat a cabin or unpack a carton. Stone stove or steam kit

Both products print 9 kW, and both appear in a sauna search. A stone stove heats rocks for a hot wooden room. The £245.00 wall stove states a knob to 90°C and a 9–13 m³ band, while the £559.99 stove states up to 110°C. A steam generator in this set is a wet-room machine, around 35–55°C where a band is printed. SPATA treats sauna heat and steam-bath heat as separate jobs, and that split should decide the basket. The £245.00 stove and the CGOLDENWALL kit at £350.55, which states 8.5 m³, share a power class and not a room. If both tabs are still open, settle it on the sauna heater or steam generator page. Stone rows are the Harvia and two generic stoves. Steam rows are the CGOLDENWALL kits, the Hanchen and the KXJQBM.

Voltage before the shelf price

Most UK houses are 230 V single phase, so the voltage line outranks the price sort. The £559.99 digital stove prints 200–240 V. The CGOLDENWALL ST-90, at £417.04, says the default order is 220 V and that 380 V is a different order. The Hanchen at £489.00 and the KXJQBM at £331.79 are titled 380 V. A 380 V-only nameplate is a stop until an electrician has read it. Schneider Electric’s UK FAQ treats 380 V, 400 V and 415 V as different figures. Nine kilowatts on 230 V is about 39 A, and a BS 1363 13 A plug will not carry it. The Harvia page at £990.00 omits voltage, and the £245.00 stove omits it too.

What the shelf price leaves out

That day’s bands were £245.00–£350.55 at the bottom, £417.04–£559.99 in the middle, and £990.00 for the Harvia. Stones, a controller, a steam head, a drain and the electrician’s labour sit outside every band. The £245.00 stove states 14–20 kg of stones as an extra, and prints a size of 0.1 cm. The Harvia Spirit family manual allows up to 60 kg. The SP90XW page does not put the rocks in the £990.00 box, and it claims a WiFi panel while omitting voltage and room volume. The £559.99 room line, printed as 2–13 m³, covers the whole 3–9 kW family. A steam kit can still leave the head or the drain for a second order. If the goods are not as described, section 22 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives 30 days to reject.

How to read the stars

The £245.00 stove has no star line. The ST-90 shows 5.0 from 2 ratings. The older CGOLDENWALL kit shows 3.7 from 76, and it is the only listing here with a United Kingdom review. That review says there is no steam. The Harvia page shows 4.9 from 14 ratings, and the texts in our raw file are from Germany. The KXJQBM page has no stars either. These scores do not name a winner.

Checklist before you pay

Five checks, in order, are the decision. Confirm a stone stove or a steam generator, and close the other type. Read the room band for that model, then measure the cabin, including glass. Copy the voltage, and pause when the title says 380 V or the line is missing. Write down stones, a controller, a steam head, a drain and labour as extras. Note the country of any review you are tempted to trust. The KXJQBM at £331.79 is the worked example: a low price, a 380 V title, no room, no stars, and a steam kit. When the five lines match the house, take that listing to the electrician.

Common questions

Is 9 kW a stone stove or a steam generator?
Nine kilowatts is the load on both. The Harvia Spirit SP90XW and the two generic stoves are stone heaters for a hot room. The CGOLDENWALL, Hanchen and KXJQBM rows are steam generators, around 35–55°C where a band is printed. A shared power figure does not make the machines interchangeable.
Will a 380 V model run in a normal UK house?
A normal UK house is 230 V single phase. The Hanchen at £489.00 and the KXJQBM at £331.79 are titled 380 V. One CGOLDENWALL page says 380 V is a different order from its default 220 V version. Schneider Electric’s UK guidance treats 380 V, 400 V and 415 V as distinct figures, so you cannot assume a match even where the building has three phases.
Why does one 9 kW page say 7.5 m³ and another say 9–13 m³?
Each listing prints its own band. The Hanchen 380 V page states 7.5 m³. The £245.00 stove states 9–13 m³. The £559.99 page prints 2–13 m³ for the whole 3–9 kW family, so that line is not this model’s cabin by itself. The Harvia SP90XW page leaves room volume blank.
Are the stones included in the price?
Often they are not. The £245.00 stove states 14–20 kg of stones as an extra. The Harvia Spirit family manual allows up to 60 kg, and the SP90XW page does not put those rocks inside the £990.00 price. On a steam kit the extra is more often a head or a drain.
Can I trust a 4.9-star score if the reviews are from Germany?
The Harvia listing shows 4.9 from 14, and those review texts are from Germany. The older CGOLDENWALL kit is the one with a United Kingdom review, and that review says the unit produced no steam. The £245.00 stove has no star line.
