Best wall plugs UK

Updated: October 2026

You want one pack for a brick wall, or a reason to buy none of the five sets here. Best wall plugs UK means best for a stated wall and a stated job. It does not mean the highest star rating or the largest number on the lid. The listings are in the [wall plug comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/wall-plug). The Products Compared editorial team read the amazon.co.uk pages and the review samples on 16 October 2026. Nobody pulled these plugs out of a wall in a lab. What best can mean here

Four things decide a pack, and stars are not the first: an honest wall line, a matching screw, a size mix you will use, and a price that matches that mix. A 4.6 from 736 reviews can sit on a box with four large anchors. A 4.5 from 2,001 reviews can sit on a title that claims every surface and prints no millimetres. Both figures are amazon.co.uk scores. They are not a strength test. The order of those decisions is the buying guide. Wickes listed a Rawlplug UNO mixed case of 150 at £9, and B&M listed a UNO 150 at £7.50 with the size split printed. None of the five shows an ETA. Fischer's DuoPower ETA applies to stated sizes of that anchor, not to a yellow assortment.

Plugs only, gauges on the packet

For ordinary solid brick, when you already own screws, the conditional top pick in this set is the Merriway BH07204, about £4.56 for forty yellow, forty red and forty brown. The listing maps those colours to screw gauges 4 to 6, 6 to 10 and 10 to 14, and the use bullet stays on solid masonry. Skip Merriway if you need screws in the box, a millimetre bit size on the page, or plugs that separate cleanly. Reviewers say the sprigs do not snap apart. PlasPlugs is the best value on price and review volume: about £4.22, 4.5 from 2,001 reviews, 52 grey nylon plugs. The listing prints no millimetres. One buyer measured 5 mm, 6.5 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm and missed 6 mm and 7 mm. Plugs break at the neck while the screw is driven. The title claims drywall without a load.

Screws in the box

If you do not own screws, the kits fail differently. Yibaijia, at about £4.99, is 55 yellow plugs and 55 screws in M6×30 mm, M6×40 mm and M8×40 mm. The first 50 reviews also describe heads snapping, including in a pilot hole in wood. The bullet says carbon steel and the table says zinc alloy. Lemiyoo, at about £6.99, is 188 pieces in a plastic box, 4.6 from 736 reviews, the highest star line here. The contents are why the stars do not crown it: four anchors at M10×50 against fifty at M6×30 and twenty-five at M5×25. Reviewers like the box and still say there are too many small plugs. The title says plasterboard. The use bullet lists solid and perforated masonry, not board. Buy it when four large anchors and a box of smaller ones cover the jobs you do.

The organiser kit

DODIYDO, at about £19.99, is 150 nylon-PE plugs and 150 screws in a case, 4.4 from 57 reviews. The bullet claims brick, concrete, plasterboard and timber, and lengths from 2.5 cm to 8 cm. Reviews like the case and describe a firmer hold in brick than in drywall. Screws spin and do not tighten. One reviewer said the two largest screws were countersunk Pozidriv, while the table says Phillips. The listing says ten sizes. Reviews describe about five. At this money, Selco's UNO tub is a named plug, not a case of unresolved counts. A case is storage for light masonry jobs if you reject any screw that spins. It is not insurance.

Who should buy none of them

Buy none of these five for plasterboard only, or for dot and dab, on the hope that an all-surfaces title covers it. A standard expansion plug needs solid material. Screwfix lists a red Rawlplug UNO 6 × 28 mm for concrete, brick, stone, block and plasterboard, with screws of 3.5–5 mm. That sheet is not a licence for PlasPlugs' title or DODIYDO's bullet. A television, a radiator, a boiler or a wall cabinet needs the bracket maker's fixing and a published load. If you want a tested anchor, leave the aisle.

Common questions

Is the 4.6-star 188-piece set the best because of the stars?
No. Lemiyoo's 4.6 from 736 reviews is the highest star line here, and the contents still list only four M10×50 anchors against fifty at M6×30 and twenty-five at M5×25. Buy it for a sorted box of mostly smaller plugs, not because 4.6 means heavy duty.
Is the £19.99 case worth it?
Only as storage for light jobs on brick, if you check that the screws tighten. DODIYDO's 57 reviews praise the case and describe weaker small plugs in drywall, plus screws that spin. A named UNO tub near the same price is a different buy.
Which pack includes screws that reviewers say snap?
Yibaijia. In the first 50 reviews, screw heads snap, including in wood with a hand screwdriver. The plugs are the part some buyers still call firm. Lemiyoo's sample complains about the size mix. DODIYDO's complaint is a screw that never tightens, which is a different failure.
When is a Rawlplug UNO tub a clearer buy than any of these?
When you want a named plug with a printed screw range, at shop prices such as Wickes at £9 for 150 or Selco at £20.64 for 520. UNO was not lab-tested against these five for this page. It is clearer because the maker publishes the geometry.
Can any of these hang a television?
Do not hang a television on any of them. None shows an ETA or a load for a bracket. One DODIYDO reviewer already refused a flat screen. Use the bracket maker's fixing.
