Best retractable socket UK: who each listing is for

Updated: 23 October 2026

Best only means something once you name the job. A flush socket in a kitchen island and a 10 m lead on a garage wall are both called retractable. This page says who each kept amazon.co.uk listing is for, using prices and review patterns on the [retractable socket comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/retractable-socket). Listings were captured on 21 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Best is a job, not a trophy

The comparison scores stars, review count, a printed UK plug, the measurement you need, and what UK reviews report. That is not a laboratory rank. The highest score is the Brennenstuhl 9+2 m reel at £57.62 with 4.0 from 120 reviews, the top pick for a workshop that can inspect the plug and socket before fitting. The best value on shelf price, among listings that still score 60 or above and are not that reel, is the TERIUX-S pop-up at £32.99, if you try a BS 1363 plug before you cut. The family choice is on the pop-up versus cable reel page.

Pop-ups in this set

The TERIUX-S at £32.99, 3.9 from 13 reviews, needs a 226 mm by 111 mm cut-out. UK texts like the flush lid, and two say a standard plug is tight, including one buyer who had already cut the top. Take it only if a BS 1363 plug seats on the bench first. The Gxpjycfob at £61.99 is a 100 mm tower with four UK plugs. One review says the clamp thread was too short for 50 mm of worktop and cupboard, and the bullets say water proof without an IP code. The Normodic at £54.49 has no review line and a plug field that says No Plug. Skip it for a kitchen you are cutting now.

Reels in this set

The Brennenstuhl at £57.62 is the top pick for one socket, a named BS 1363 plug, and H05VV-F 3G1.5. Several reviews say the plug and socket arrived on the wrong ends, and that the rewind is a spring even though the title says electrical. Wound watts are not printed. Do not copy 1,000 W and 3,120 W from a different Brennenstuhl model. The CRM101 at £63.62 prints 1,000 W wound and 1,500 W unwound. It covers a jigsaw, a sander, or a vacuum, and it is not a 13 A reel. UK texts also include a spring that rewound on its own. The CRM10 at £98.02 prints 2,750 W unwound and two switched sockets. Plan with 2,750 W, not the 3,200 W on Sealey's own page. The EnergyPro at £60.99 prints 2,300 W only when the cable is fully out, from 15 reviews. That is a smaller sample than 4.0 from 120.

The extender is not the default

The SKJJM extender is £25.99, 3.3 from three ratings. One UK text says it sparked and tripped the house electrics on the first plug-in. It is not a cheap substitute for a pop-up or a reel. No listing in this set prints an IP code, and no socket on a shared plug is its own 13 A supply.

Common questions

Which listing is the one to buy for a kitchen island?
Only a pop-up, and only after a UK plug seats and the cut-out matches. The TERIUX-S at £32.99 is the best value on price if you test a BS 1363 plug before you cut 226 mm by 111 mm. The Gxpjycfob at £61.99 is the 100 mm option. Skip the Normodic while the plug field says No Plug and there are no reviews. None of them prints a cable length, so the lead still has to reach a socket without crossing the hob.
Which reel is enough for a garage vacuum, and which is not a 13 A reel?
The Sealey CRM101 prints 1,500 W unwound, about 6 A, which is the band UK reviews use for a vacuum, a jigsaw, or a sander. It is explicitly not a 13 A reel. The CRM10 prints 2,750 W unwound on amazon.co.uk if the tool is larger and you want two sockets. The Brennenstuhl prints 13 A and does not print wound watts, so you cannot treat that 13 A as the coiled rating.
Why is the dearest Sealey not automatically the pick?
The CRM10 costs £98.02 and prints the highest unwound watts in the set, at 2,750 W on this listing. It also has 26 reviews against 120 on the Brennenstuhl and 91 on the CRM101, and UK texts include spring failures. Pay the extra when you need two switched sockets and that unwound figure. Leave it when 1,500 W and one socket already cover the tool.
Is 4.7 from 15 reviews a better reel than 4.0 from 120?
No. The EnergyPro's 4.7 from 15 is a smaller sample than the Brennenstuhl's 4.0 from 120, and the EnergyPro page conflicts with itself on weight and, in one review, on length. Stars are not a lab score. A larger file that includes swapped ends is still more evidence than a short file with almost no repeated complaint.
What if the pop-up has no reviews and no plug listed?
Leave it. The Normodic row is that case: £54.49, a 120 mm hole, 15 W Qi, No Plug, and no review line. Wait until a BS 1363 plug is on the listing, or buy a unit that already names one.
