Brennenstuhl extension lead buying guide for a UK plug

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with Brennenstuhl strips that do not agree. One field says Type G, the next Type B, and a current line prints 13 A beside 16 A or 10 A. Put the plug and fuse first, then the marked amps, then the feature you came for, and only then the socket count. Prices run from about £12 to about £48. The table is on the [Brennenstuhl extension lead comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/brennenstuhl-extension-lead). Peter F. checked these listings on 22 October 2026. This is not a lab test. Confirm the plug before the brand

A Brennenstuhl name does not tell you the plug. UK leads for a normal wall socket use a BS 1363 three-pin plug and a BS 1362 fuse. The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 specify those standards for standard plugs. If the attribute table and the photograph disagree, use the photograph. The Eco-Line says Type G and Type B. The Ecolor says Type B, glossed as a North American 3-pin. The 12-way says Type G and Type F. Treat Type B, Type F, or No Plug as a conflict. Neither Type B nor Type F belongs in a UK wall socket.

Read the amp rating, not the number of sockets

Most of these leads print 13 A, shared by the whole strip. Extra sockets do not add amps. Brennenstuhl's UK pages for the 13 A models print 3,120 W. A 12-way at £48.11 still lists 13 A. The 6-way prints 10 A in both fields. Electrical Safety First notes that some leads really are 10 A. The Ecolor prints 10 A and 22 A. Do not add those numbers. The white 4-way prints 13,500 A in the current field, which the bullets call surge leakage current. That figure is not the load. The 2 m leads here commonly print H05VV-F 3G1.25. Cable size does not change the amp rating.

Pick the feature you actually came for

Surge protection is claimed on two listings: the Eco-Line at £11.94 (4.5 from 151 reviews) and the white 4-way at £11.98 (4.4 from 19 reviews). Both print 13,500 A. Read the surge protection page before you treat that figure as extra load. A fuse button, on the Ecolor, Super-Solid (£22.16), Alu-Line (£34.78), and 12-way, is a different device and does not claim surge protection. The Primera-Line 10-way (£18.06, 4.7 from 875) is the top pick on the best Brennenstuhl extension lead page when you want many sockets. The USB 4-way (£13.89) is the only charging model, at 2,100 mA total, and it does not say USB-C.

Keep it indoors

Brennenstuhl's GB pages for these household strips say IP20, not for outdoor use, and no RCCB. IP20 is a finger-and-dust indoor rating. Indoor use still covers a home office, a television, and a dry workshop bench. Daily limits, including why you do not feed a second strip from the first, sit on the how to use a Brennenstuhl extension lead page.

Common questions

Does a Brennenstuhl lead have a UK plug?
Not every attribute table says so. Look for Type G, BS 1363, or a GB mark, and then look at the photograph. In this capture the Ecolor field says Type B and glosses it as a North American 3-pin. The 12-way says Type G and Type F. The Eco-Line says Type G and Type B. A second plug type on the same page is a conflict to resolve from the photo, not a choice of countries.
Is every model 13 A?
The 10-way, Super-Solid, Alu-Line, USB 4-way, Eco-Line, and 12-way print 13 A as the continuous figure. The 6-way prints 10 A. The Ecolor prints 10 A and 22 A. The Premium-Line 8-way prints 16 A and 13 A. The white surge 4-way prints 13,500 A in the current field, which is the surge claim. Use the single continuous figure when the page gives you one.
Do more sockets mean more power?
Every socket on the bar shares the marked current, usually 13 A. Brennenstuhl's UK pages for those 13 A models print 3,120 W. Twelve sockets at £48.11 are still a 13 A lead. A kettle can use most of that allowance on its own, which is why high-load appliances should not crowd the same strip.
Should I buy surge protection or a fuse button?
Buy the surge claim if you want the 13,500 A line for a PC or television, which in this set means the Eco-Line or the white 4-way. Buy the fuse button if you want a reset after an overload, which is the Ecolor, Super-Solid, Alu-Line, or 12-way. This capture does not combine both on one listing. Neither feature is an RCD, and neither raises the 13 A ceiling.
Is it for the garden?
These household strips are indoor leads. Brennenstuhl's GB pages say IP20, not for outdoor use, and no RCCB. Rain, a damp shed, or a lead left on the lawn is outside what these listings describe. Outdoor kit needs a lead built for that job.
Is it made in Germany?
Some origin fields say Germany and some say China. The Alu-Line title says Made in Germany. The 10-way, Eco-Line, Super-Solid, and several others say China. The brand is not a single factory in this capture. The plug photograph still matters more than the origin line.
