Multi sander buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to sand a tabletop, a run of skirting, or a window board, and the amazon.co.uk results mix true multi-base kits with belt sanders and single orbitals that only share a keyword. This guide uses four listings kept on 19 October 2026: two DEKOPRO 300 W kits at £36.99, the DOVAMAN ROS06A at £47.47, and the Bosch PSM 200 AES at £81.00. Products Compared did not run a lab test, and a qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The side-by-side table is the [multi sander comparison](/hub/sanders/multi-sander).

What has to be in the box

A multi sander is one motor and more than one sanding base. Confirm the pads before you compare watts. The DEKOPRO bullets name a mouse pad, a sheet pad and an orbital pad, and ASIN B0F66VRWPR calls the disc about 125 mm. The DOVAMAN ROS06A lists sheet, orbital and detail pads with fifteen 80-grit sheets. The Bosch PSM 200 AES is the exception: UK reviews describe a rectangular plate and an iron-shaped detail plate, plus a case, and they do not describe a 125 mm disc on this ASIN. The included-components line only prints 1, so the live photographs matter more than that digit. A kit without a disc makes a dining table slow. For skirting and window stools only, the Bosch two-plate set can be enough. Eight neighbouring files were removed because they were belt sanders, single orbitals, polishers or a detail-only mouse. Homebase places a multi-sander between a detail sander and a random-orbit sander. The box contents are how you test that on the day you order.

Speed, power and the rpm line

Variable speed earns its keep when the timber is soft or you are sanding between coats, because a fixed high orbit can dig a hollow. Both DEKOPRO listings state six steps from 7,000 to 13,000 rpm and a 300 W motor. The DOVAMAN states six speeds, 200 W, and a maximum of 24,000 rpm. Treat that 24,000 figure as the seller’s claim. We did not measure oscillations per minute. The Bosch is 200 W at 230 V. Its specification row prints 176 rpm, which does not match how these sanders work, so that number stays out of the decision. Listed weight runs from 1.43 kg on the Bosch to 2.26 kg on the DOVAMAN, with the DEKOPRO bodies at 2.04 kg and 2.13 kg. Power in this set is a narrow band, 200–300 W. The 300 W DEKOPRO does not finish a corner faster than the Bosch if the pad is the wrong shape. UK reviews mention a DEKOPRO motor that runs warm, and a DOVAMAN heat smell under heavy load. That is a reason to pause, not to press harder.

Dust, sheets and the plug

Every listing mentions a collector, an adapter, or both. Bosch UK reviews praise the microfilter box. DEKOPRO and DOVAMAN reviews still say fine dust escapes. A pod on a £36.99 tool is a convenience for chips you can see. It is not local exhaust ventilation. HSE guidance on hand-held sanders, in WD7, points to on-tool extraction, holes that line up, and respiratory protective equipment at assigned protection factor 20 when the dust is not controlled. Do not dry-sweep. The indoor routine is on the sander dust extraction page. DEKOPRO B0F66VRWPR lists nine starter sheets. The other DEKOPRO ASIN’s bullets say fifteen. The DOVAMAN pack is fifteen sheets, all 80-grit. A small table still wants 80, then 120, then 240. Bosch does not state a sheet count. A DEKOPRO sheet will not automatically suit a Bosch plate if the holes must meet the dust ports. The flex should end in a BS 1363 plug, under the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. B0F66VRWPR prints 230 V AC. B0DXK4NCJH prints 220 V and shares the same price and the same 4.1 from 320 reviews, so it is a near-duplicate, not a second test. Confirm the plug in the photographs. Order one. Do not add 320 and 320.

How to choose without a lab score

Start from the surface, then the money. If you already own a decent 125 mm orbital and you only need a detail plate, paying again for a 3-in-1 orbital head is an expensive way to sand a corner. That split is on multi sander vs orbital sander. If you own nothing, the £36.99 DEKOPRO, the £47.47 DOVAMAN and the £81.00 Bosch are a job-and-budget choice, not a single winner. Those conditional picks are on the best multi sander page. A Clarke CMS200 at Machine Mart is a 200 W 3-in-1 with a case, and it is outside this scored set. Grit order, and unplugging before a plate change, sits with the how-to page linked beside this guide.

Common questions

Do three bases ship in the box?
On the two DEKOPRO listings and the DOVAMAN ROS06A, the bullets say yes: a detail or mouse pad, a sheet pad and an orbital pad. The Bosch PSM 200 AES is different. UK reviews describe two plates, rectangular and detail, and this ASIN is not sold here as a 125 mm orbital head. The included-components line only prints 1, so check the photographs on amazon.co.uk on the day you order.
Is variable speed worth paying for?
It is worth it when you move between bare softwood and a thin coat of varnish, because the high end of a fixed orbit marks the film. Both DEKOPRO pages list six steps from 7,000 to 13,000 rpm. The DOVAMAN lists six speeds. The Bosch amazon.co.uk row in this capture does not give a usable range, and the printed 176 rpm figure should be ignored.
Can I attach a vacuum?
DEKOPRO and DOVAMAN bullets list a dust box and an adapter for a household vacuum. The port diameter is not stated on the listing, so a cuff from a DIY vacuum may or may not seat. Bosch UK reviews mention a vacuum connection as well as the microfilter box, and the port size is again unstated. An adapter moves more dust than the pod alone. It does not turn the tool into workshop extraction.
Are the included sheets enough for a table?
No. Nine or fifteen sheets, often 80-grit, will strip a small top and then glaze or scratch if you try to finish on the same grit. Plan a short ladder, for example 80 then 120 then 240, and buy hook-and-loop sheets that match the pad you fitted. The DOVAMAN pack is explicitly fifteen pieces of 80-grit. Bosch does not state a count.
Is it safe to sand indoors?
You can sand indoors if you treat wood dust as a COSHH problem rather than as housework. HSE guidance expects extraction where you can arrange it, holes that line up, and RPE at APF 20 when the dust is not controlled. Do not dry-sweep. A budget dust box still leaks the fine fraction in UK reviews. Lead paint, an unknown coating, or a motor that smells of burning is a reason to stop.
Why are there two DEKOPRO listings?
In this capture, B0F66VRWPR and B0DXK4NCJH are both £36.99 and both show 4.1 from 320 reviews, so the stars are one sample printed twice. The first lists nine sheets and 230 V AC at 2.04 kg. The second’s bullets say fifteen sheets, the specification row prints 220 V, and the weight is 2.13 kg. Compare the live box photos and the plug. Order one ASIN.
