Carbon filter or inline fan kit for a grow tent

Updated: October 2026

You can buy a carbon cylinder and keep the fan you already mounted, or you can buy a box that includes both, and the dearer box is only rational in one of those cases. This page compares a carbon filter or an inline fan kit using the eleven amazon.co.uk listings in our set, not the whole UK market. The scored table is the [carbon filter grow tent comparison](/hub/raised-beds-greenhouses-and-compost/carbon-filter-grow-tent). Prices are GBP from the October 2026 scrape. Products Compared may earn a commission if you buy through the comparison links, at no extra cost to you. We did not test apps or measure odour removal.

When a filter-only cylinder is the better buy

Choose a filter on its own when a matching inline fan is already in the tent and the flange sizes agree. The best value row in the comparison is that situation at 150 mm: the AC Infinity AC-DCF6 at about £65.99, with a 410 CFM bullet, a pre-filter and straps, and 4.7 from 9,697 ratings. Eighteen of the saved reviews are tagged United Kingdom. You add duct and clips you may already own. You do not pay for a second fan. The same logic holds at 100 mm. The top pick, AC Infinity’s 100 mm filter at about £47.99, is for a fan you already run at 4 inch. Mars Hydro’s 4 inch at about £27.92 and 6 inch at about £40.38 are the cheaper cylinders with stated CFM and thinner review files. HG Power’s 6 inch at about £33.99 is the lowest 150 mm shelf price here, without a CFM bullet. Filter-only loses when the fan in the cupboard is a different diameter. A reducer will connect them and it adds the resistance UK duct guides tell you to avoid. Filter-only also loses when you have no fan at all and you pretend a cylinder moves air. It does not.

When a kit is the better buy

A kit is the better buy when you would otherwise order a fan from one brand and a filter from another and hope the flanges and the airflow line up. This set has two 150 mm kits. The AC Infinity CLOUDLINE LITE filtration kit, B097NL4NM7, is about £189 with a 352 CFM bullet and a listed weight of 11.9 kg. The VIVOSUN G6, B0CBRPS1N8, is about £169.99 with a 388 CFM bullet, smart control on the comparison row, RC 412 charcoal language on the bullets, and a listed weight of 9.14 kg. Hydroponics UK’s sizing guide treats a matched set as a way to remove guesswork. That is a retailer claim about pairing, not a test we repeated. Neither kit has a UK-tagged review in the raw files. The 4.7 from 241 ratings on the AC Infinity kit and the 4.6 from 194 on the VIVOSUN kit are listing lines without a British subsample in the scrape. Buy them for the specification and the single-box match, and do not pretend the stars are local. The VIVOSUN row is the one that advertises an app. The AC Infinity kit in this capture does not. An app does not change duct diameter, does not exhaust the tent for you, and does not alter the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 if the crop would need a licence. Against the about £65.99 filter, the kits cost roughly about £104 to about £123 more in this scrape. That gap is the fan and the controller, if you need them.

The refillable shell is a third path

The AC Infinity refillable 100 mm kit, B0CFBM7JKT, at about £82.99, is not a fan kit. The included line lists a funnel, a scoop and an extra carbon bag. You still need a 100 mm fan. Two UK-tagged reviews and no captured CFM figure are the evidence limits. Refilling can make sense after the first shell if you will do the messy swap and you stay on 100 mm duct. It is a poor substitute for the 150 mm kits, because the flange never becomes 6 inch. Spill risk and downtime are the costs a sealed Mars Hydro or AC Infinity cylinder does not charge you on day one.

How to choose with this scrape in front of you

If you own a healthy 150 mm fan, buy the AC Infinity 150 mm filter at about £65.99, or the Mars Hydro 6 inch at about £40.38 if the review gap is acceptable. If you own a healthy 100 mm fan and the tent volume really fits 4 inch, buy the AC Infinity 100 mm top pick or a budget 4 inch cylinder, and read the size guide before you assume the tent is small. If you own nothing, and the tent is 120 cm class, buy one of the two 150 mm kits and accept the missing UK reviews. Prefer the VIVOSUN G6 at about £169.99 when you will use the app. Prefer the AC Infinity kit at about £189 when you want that brand’s fan-and-filter pair and you will not use a cloud account. If you own a 200 mm fan, neither kit fits. The only 200 mm filter in the set is the AC Infinity XL at about £119, still filter-only. If you are unsure of the fan size, measure the flange in millimetres before you add either path to the basket.

Common questions

Do I need a kit if I already have a fan?
No, if the fan’s flange matches the filter you buy and the fan still moves enough air for the tent. A 150 mm fan plus the about £65.99 AC Infinity filter is the comparison’s best value pattern. A kit is for the buyer who does not yet have that fan.
Will mixed brands leak?
They leak when the diameters differ or the clips are loose, not because the logos differ. A 150 mm Mars Hydro filter on a 150 mm fan can seal. A 100 mm filter on a 150 mm fan needs a reducer, which UK guides treat as extra resistance. Clip and tug-test either way.
Do the kits include a controller?
The VIVOSUN G6 listing is the smart, app-style kit in this set, at about £169.99 and 388 CFM on the bullets. The AC Infinity CLOUDLINE LITE kit at about £189 quotes 352 CFM and does not carry the smart-control mark in our comparison row. Confirm the current amazon.co.uk bullets before you rely on an app feature. We did not test either controller.
Is the VIVOSUN kit worth about £170?
It is worth considering when you want a 150 mm fan, filter and app in one box and you accept zero UK-tagged reviews in the raw file. It is hard to justify when you already own the fan, because filter-only 150 mm rows in this set cost about £33.99 to about £65.99. The app does not replace outdoor exhaust.
Can I keep my old fan and only replace the carbon?
Yes. That is the filter-only path. Match the millimetre size, pick a filter rated at or above the fan on the listing figures, and replace a saturated bed rather than the motor. The refillable 100 mm shell is the only row here designed to take new media in the same canister.
Which kit fits a 150 mm tent run?
Both kits in this comparison are 150 mm: VIVOSUN G6 at about £169.99 and AC Infinity CLOUDLINE LITE at about £189. There is no 100 mm or 200 mm fan kit in the eleven ASINs. A 200 mm tent run stays on the filter-only XL plus a fan you buy elsewhere.
