Metabo mitre saw for skirting

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have skirting and architrave in the hall, a 45° corner that has to close, and a Metabo listing that may be a chop saw or a slider. A Metabo mitre saw for skirting is the saw that can stand your board at the angle you will actually cut. Width is on the [sliding versus compact page](/hub/power-saws/metabo-mitre-saw/sub/metabo-mitre-saw-sliding-vs-compound). The cut sequence is on [how to use a Metabo mitre saw](/hub/power-saws/metabo-mitre-saw/sub/metabo-mitre-saw-how-to-use). Prices are amazon.co.uk shelf figures in our [Metabo mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/metabo-mitre-saw) on 20 October 2026. Peter F. did not cut a room of trim. Measure the board the way you will cut it

Skirting is often mitred stood against the fence, so the profile height becomes the depth the saw must clear. Architrave is sometimes cut flat, so the moulding width is a cross-cut. A saw that cross-cuts a flat 69 mm architrave can still refuse a tall skirting on edge, because capacity at 45° is smaller than at 90°. Unplug the saw, set 45°, and lower the blade until the teeth clear the profile. The only published depth pair in this set is on the KGS 254 M: 92 mm at 90° and 47 mm at 45°. The KS 216 M files do not publish a depth. Plenty of skirtings are taller than 47 mm, so standing a tall board at 45° will not fit that figure. Voltage rows stay on the buying guide.

A compact KS 216 M for ordinary skirting

The KS 216 M part 610216380 at £139.00 is the best value saw here for trim that fits a chop. It is 216 mm and 240 V, listed at 8.7 kg, with PCL and bevel from -2° to 47°. That negative bevel is the undercut when a wall leans. The box lists a clamp, a chip bag, extensions and a 40-tooth blade. There is no review line on this ASIN. Cut an internal pair from the same 45° setting. The Lasercut at £129.82 chops narrow trim without the bag and extensions, and its reviews mention the plug. The £224.99 kit lists Battery in the components field. For a weekend of skirting, order the readable £139.00 box.

When the profile is taller than the chop

Move to the KGS 254 M, part 613254000, at £279.98 when the board will not sit under the compact blade, or when the job includes wide window boards. It is the top pick: 4.6 from 198 ratings, with 92 / 47 mm in the bullets. If the skirting is taller than 47 mm and you stand it at 45°, the slider has not solved the cut. Ignore the 17 g weight row. One UK review mentions a weak depth stop and a Euro plug. The 305 mm saws are listed at 18.6 kg, and this file does not give them that depth line.

Close the joint, then stop

Dry-fit the first corner before you cut the rest of the bundle. A wall that is out of square will open a neat 45° pair. The -2° end of the bevel is a small undercut. Clamp the board. Short offcuts get pulled in when a hand is only steadying them. Where the bullets include a fast brake, wait until the blade has stopped. HSE wood-dust limits and WIS23 apply when someone is employed to cut.

Common questions

Which Metabo mitre saw should I buy for skirting?
If an offcut fits under a 216 mm chop at the angle you will use, buy the KS 216 M part 610216380 at £139.00. It lists PCL and a bevel down to -2°. If the board is too tall, read the KGS 254 M figures of 92 mm at 90° and 47 mm at 45° before you assume a slider is tall enough.
Is 47 mm at 45° enough for skirting?
It is enough only when the way you present the board needs 47 mm or less of vertical capacity. Many skirtings are taller than that. The figure comes from the KGS 254 M bullets, not from a test we ran, and the KS 216 M listings here do not publish a depth at all. Stand an offcut in the fence position you intend to use.
Do I need a sliding saw for architrave?
Usually you need a true 45° and a clamp. Architrave cut flat is a narrow cross-cut, which is the KS 216 M's job, as long as the moulding fits. You need the KGS 254 M slide when the piece is wide, such as a deep lining or a window board, not because the word architrave appears on the drawing.
Can PCL cut the mitre square on its own?
PCL shows the blade's shadow on your mark. The turntable and the fence set the angle. Square 0° with the saw unplugged, then click the 45° stop and cut a pair of tests. Two tests put together on the floor tell you more than the LED does.
What about a non-UK plug on a trim saw?
A UK review on the KGS 254 M and reviews on the Lasercut KS 216 M describe a two-pin or non-BS 1363 plug. Check the carton before you cut a room's worth of board and before you cut the plug off. A wrong plug on a UK order is a description issue with the seller.
Should I take the 305 mm saw upstairs for one bedroom?
The KGS 305 M listings weigh 18.6 kg in the file, and they do not quote the 92 / 47 mm depth. For skirting and architrave that fit the KS 216 M, the compact saw is the one you can carry between rooms. Keep the 230 V 305 mm saw for large timber on a fixed bench, and keep the 110 V version on a site transformer.
