Metabo mitre saw buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are standing in a garage with skirting to cut, or pricing a saw for weekly kitchen panels, and the amazon.co.uk results all say Metabo. This Metabo mitre saw buying guide puts the decision in order: board width, a normal UK socket or a 110 V site transformer, then the part number. The [Metabo mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/metabo-mitre-saw) holds the prices and the table, from £129.82 to £312.88 on 20 October 2026. Start with board width and site power

Write down the widest piece you will cross-cut in one pass, and the tallest you will stand against the fence. The KS 216 M listings are compact chop saws with no slide in the bullets. The KGS 254 M bullets describe a sliding pull and quote 92 mm at 90° and 47 mm at 45°. Metabo UK publishes 305 × 92 mm at 90° for that family, which is the figure to use when the amazon weight row says 17 g. A board that will not sit under a 216 mm blade in one chop points you to the KGS 254 M at £279.98, part 613254000. Part 613305000 is 230 V at £312.88. Part 613305390 is 110 V at £299.99 and belongs on a site transformer. Width alone is on the sliding or compact comparison. Skirting height is on the skirting guide.

Understand PCL

Precision Cut Line is Metabo's LED shadow of the blade. On part 610216380 and the KGS bullets, you do not realign that shadow when you change the mitre. It is not a laser, and it does not square the fence. Square 0° first, then use the shadow to place the cut. The Lasercut KS 216 M, part 619216380 at £129.82, is a different box: a 40-tooth blade, a clamp and a blade-change tool. The PCL listing at £139.00 names two extensions, a chip bag, a length guide, a clamp and a 216×30 mm 40-tooth wood blade.

Read the box and the plug

The 230 V KGS 305 M title says 1600 W and the wattage row says 77 W. Ignore 77 W. The KGS 254 M weight row says 17 g and the teeth row says 254, while the blade in the box is a Z48. The KS 216 M kit, part 610216900 at £224.99, promises a second carbide blade, while the components field says Battery beside a 240 V AC row. One UK review on the KGS 254 M reports a two-pin plug, and a Lasercut review records a non-BS 1363 plug. Check the plug before you cut it off. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects the goods to match the description. The best Metabo mitre saw page names one listing per job.

Pick with a condition

Choose the KS 216 M part 610216380 at £139.00 for narrow stock and the fuller PCL box. Choose the KGS 254 M at £279.98, 4.6 from 198 ratings, when boards exceed a single chop. Choose the 230 V KGS 305 M at £312.88 for a 305 mm blade if you can house an 18.6 kg saw and you confirm capacity in the Metabo UK manual, because these bullets do not quote a depth or a pull. Leave part 613305390 for a 110 V site.

Common questions

Which Metabo mitre saw is enough for skirting only?
If the board sits fully under a 216 mm chop at the angle you need, the KS 216 M part 610216380 at £139.00 is the listing aimed at that job. The raw files do not publish a cut depth for the KS 216 M, so measure an offcut against the fence before you assume a tall profile will fit.
Does PCL replace squaring the fence?
No. PCL is an LED shadow of the blade path. Square 0° with a square you trust, then line the shadow up with your mark. A shadow on a crooked fence still produces a crooked cut, including on a 45° skirting mitre where a small error opens the joint.
Why does the KGS 305 M listing say 77 W?
The title on part 613305000 says 1600 W. The wattage row says 77 W. That row is a bad specification field, not the motor rating. Use the title, and check Metabo UK, before you compare power with the 1450 W row on the KGS 254 M.
Will I get a UK plug?
The listings say 240 V or 230 V, apart from the 110 V KGS 305 M. They do not all prove a BS 1363 plug in the raw file. A UK review on the KGS 254 M and a Lasercut review both describe a non-UK plug. Check the carton. If the plug does not match what you ordered, use your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 rather than modifying the flex yourself.
Should I buy the 110 V or the 240 V KGS 305 M?
Buy part 613305390 at £299.99 only when the site already uses a 110 V transformer. For a house, garage or flat on a normal socket, including in Northern Ireland, buy the 230 V part 613305000 at £312.88. The two share the 305 mm blade class and a listed weight of 18.6 kg. They do not share a supply.
Is the dust bag enough?
For a short DIY cut, the chip bag named on several of these box lists catches some of the dust at the saw. It is not a COSHH assessment. Employers follow HSE wood-dust limits and WIS23, which expects capture at the blade. Hearing protection is sensible too: Metabo UK publishes about 86 dB(A) sound pressure for the KGS 254 M, a manufacturer figure rather than a measurement we made.
