Makita compatible saw vs genuine

Updated: 21 October 2026

A Makita compatible saw versus a genuine Makita is a money question only after it is a warranty question. On amazon.co.uk a blue housing at £39.99 and the Makita DSS610Z at £119.00 can both claim an 18 V pack, and only one of them is a Makita tool. This page is for when you already own LXT packs and you are deciding whether the cheaper body is enough. All eleven listings are on the [Makita cordless saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/makita-cordless-saw), checked on 20 October 2026. A compatible title is not a Makita warranty

Genuine means the brand field says Makita: the DSS610Z at £119.00, 4.8 from 1,998 reviews, and the HS301DZ at £99.95, 4.5 from 1,874 reviews. Everything else names a Makita pack and sells another company’s saw. When a bullet is false, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is your route with the seller. Amazon marks both genuine saws brushless. Makita UK does not, and UK reviews of the DSS610Z describe a brushed motor. LXT packs do not fit the HS301DZ.

What the £119 DSS610Z is actually selling

The £119.00 includes a 165 mm TCT blade, a rip fence and a hex wrench, and no battery. Makita UK states 57 mm at 90° and 94 dB(A). It will not cut a sleeper in one pass. The £39.99 CISSIYOG is 3.8 from 40 reviews, about 5 inches, and the components row only says Attachments. The panthem at £79.99 is 4.6 from nine reviews, with no noise sheet. The LengSuaa review includes a burn-out after four months. The luolety, 3.2 from five, has a failed safety switch.

Noise, burn-out, and the models outside this set

HSE action values are 80 and 85 dB(A). At 94 dB(A), hearing protection is the default on the DSS610. No compatible listing publishes a noise figure, or the 2.5 and 5 m/s² hand-arm figures HSE uses. A LengSuaa review records a burn-out after four months. When the job outgrows this set, Makita UK lists the brushless DHS680 and the DJR187, with a stroke around 32 mm. This page does not invent a price for either. The best Makita cordless saw page stays inside the eleven.

When the £40 body is the right spend

Choose the £39.99 CISSIYOG when you already own Makita 18 V packs and the timber is light. It does not fit a decking run that needs 57 mm and a rip fence. That run is the DSS610Z. The OHAISFELA states a 20 mm stroke, short of the DJR187. The Builrand at £48.99 states no stroke. Add a pack before you call £40 a saving. The buying guide puts platform in front of this price gap.

Common questions

Is a cheaper saw that takes Makita batteries a Makita saw?
No. A BL18xx pack means the rails match a battery you own. It does not mean Makita made the gearbox, published the noise figure, or will warranty the tool. In this set only the DSS610Z and the HS301DZ are Makita circular saws. The other circulars sit at about £40 to £80, and the two reciprocating bodies at about £49 to £60, all under other brand names.
Why not buy the panthem if it is 4.6 stars and 185 mm?
The sample is nine reviews, the price is £79.99, and the DSS610Z is £119.00 with 1,998 reviews plus a Makita UK depth and noise sheet. One panthem review also mentions two batteries the title does not include. An 185 mm blade is a real difference from the 125 mm minis. On nine reviews it is not a reason to skip the genuine LXT body if you can already run LXT packs.
Does the Consumer Rights Act replace a Makita warranty?
It gives you rights against the seller when the saw is not as described, not of satisfactory quality, or not fit for a purpose you agreed. A false brushless claim, or a picture that implies a battery, belongs in that conversation. It does not give you Makita’s parts list, noise data or repair network. Keep the listing text. You will need it if the description and the tool disagree.
The Amazon page says brushless on the DSS610Z. Who is right?
Makita UK does not describe the DSS610 as brushless, and UK reviews here call the motor brushed and mention a brake. Ignore that Amazon cell. The same clash appears on the HS301DZ. For a brushless 165 mm Makita, the model Makita UK documents is the DHS680, which is outside this comparison. Do not assume it shares the DSS610Z’s £119.00 price.
Are the reciprocating copies enough instead of a DJR187?
For occasional pallet work, the OHAISFELA’s stated 20 mm stroke and four blades, or the Builrand’s eight blades and unstated stroke, are what this set contains. For a stroke around 32 mm and a vibration figure, Makita UK’s DJR187 is the reference, and it is not an ASIN here. Sixteen reviews on each copy is a thin basis for demolition you are being paid to do.
What should I buy if I only own CXT packs?
The HS301DZ, if your boards are under about 25.5 mm at 90°. An 18 V compatible circular will not run on that pack, and neither will the DSS610Z. If the work is thicker than the HS301D can cut, you need a different platform, not a louder title. Makita UK gives the HS301D a noise figure of 86 dB(A), so hearing protection still belongs in the kit.
