Makita LXT, CXT, or XGT circular saw

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are standing in front of three Makita circular saws that look like a size range, and they are actually three battery systems. A Makita LXT, CXT, or XGT circular saw here means the DSS610Z, the HS301DZ, or the RS001GZ. Captured on 19 October 2026, those bare bodies were £119.00, £99.95, and £214.99, with no battery in any title. The packs do not swap. The [Makita circular saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/makita-circular-saw) holds the three listings side by side. Peter F. drew this from those listings and the Makita UK pages, with no lab. The slides do not match

LXT here is 18 V on the DSS610Z. CXT is 12 V on the HS301DZ. XGT is 40 V max on the RS001GZ. UK reviews say an LXT pack does not fit the HS301DZ. Ordering the £99.95 saw because it undercuts £119.00 fails when the LXT packs will not click home. Add the pack you lack before you treat the XGT body as only £95.99 more than the LXT body. A “compatible with Makita 18V” title is not a fourth platform. The wider checklist is the Makita circular saw buying guide.

What 18 V LXT buys you on the DSS610Z

The DSS610Z is the 165 mm body if you already cut with LXT. Makita UK states 57 mm at 90°. The amazon.co.uk file is 4.8 from 1,998 reviews. The box includes a rip fence. Choose LXT when those packs are already yours and the timber sits inside that square cut. Amazon’s cell says brushless. Makita UK does not. The gap to the CXT saw is smaller than a new 18 V kit.

What 12 V CXT is for on the HS301DZ

The HS301DZ is the compact 85 mm saw. Makita UK states 25.5 mm at 90°. Reviews at 4.5 from 1,874 describe trim under about 25 mm. There is no rip fence. CXT fits when those 12 V packs already run your compact tools and the cut is that shallow. Decking near 57 mm is the wrong voltage. Which body that points to is on the best Makita circular saw page.

When 40 V max XGT is the platform you actually need

The RS001GZ is the rear-handle 185 mm body. Bullets and Makita UK agree on brushless and on 65 mm at 90°. The amazon.co.uk file is 4.3 from 47 reviews. XGT earns £214.99 when you already own 40 V max packs and you need that deeper cut. Eight millimetres past 57 mm is a weak reason to open a new platform for decking the LXT saw already reaches. The figures are on Makita circular saw depth of cut.

Common questions

Can I put an LXT battery on the HS301DZ?
No. The HS301DZ is 12 V CXT. UK reviews warn that an 18 V LXT pack does not fit. The DSS610Z is the LXT circular saw in this comparison. If your packs are LXT and the timber is inside about 57 mm, that is the body that uses them. Buying the CXT saw to save the difference between £99.95 and £119.00 fails as soon as the slide does not match.
Which saw is LXT, which is CXT, and which is XGT?
The DSS610Z is 18 V LXT, 165 mm. The HS301DZ is 12 V CXT, 85 mm. The RS001GZ is 40 V max XGT, 185 mm. All three were bare bodies on amazon.co.uk on 19 October 2026. None shares a pack with the others. Match the badge on your existing charger, not the colour of the saw, before you add it to the basket.
When is XGT worth it over LXT?
When you already own 40 V max XGT packs, or you are committing to that platform, and you need about 65 mm at 90° with a brushless rear-handle saw that Makita UK describes that way. The bare RS001GZ was £214.99 against £119.00 for the DSS610Z. It is not the better buy for a gain of a few millimetres on timber the LXT saw already cuts, and its UK review file is only 47 reviews at 4.3.
Does any of the three include a battery?
No. Every title excludes the battery and the charger. LXT, CXT, and XGT prices in this capture are body-only. A cupboard of the right packs makes the bare price honest. An empty cupboard means you add a starter kit and then compare systems, not the three shelf figures alone.
Are compatible-with-Makita saws an LXT alternative?
No. Those titles are other tools that advertise a fit with Makita packs, and they were taken out of this comparison. They are not the DSS610Z and they are not a cheaper XGT. If you want this platform essay to apply, the brand on the saw and the brand on the pack both need to be Makita, on one of these three slides.
How deep is each platform at 90°?
Makita UK states 57 mm for the LXT DSS610, 25.5 mm for the CXT HS301D, and 65 mm for the XGT RS001G family. Amazon leaves the DSS610 90° cell empty and prints only 16.5 mm at 45° on the HS301 bullets. Use those manufacturer square-cut figures when you choose the voltage. A bevel is shallower on every one of them, which the depth page sets out cut by cut.
