Makita circular saw depth of cut

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have measured the timber, and the amazon.co.uk page will not tell you whether the blade will come out the other side. Makita circular saw depth of cut, for the three bodies in our [Makita circular saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/makita-circular-saw), is a set of stated figures. Makita UK gives the DSS610 57 mm at 90°, the HS301D 25.5 mm, and the RS001G family 65 mm. This page does not choose a winner. Peter F. took these depths from Makita UK and the amazon.co.uk bullets on 19 October 2026, with no lab cut. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Read the 90° figure first, then the bevel

Depth at 90° is the square cut. A tilt leaves less, so a board that passes at 90° can fail on a mitre. Makita UK is the source when Amazon’s rows are blank. Leave a margin: the figure is a manufacturer maximum, not a cut we made. UK reviewers say the DSS610Z will not clear a sleeper in one pass. Platform lock-in is on Makita LXT, CXT or XGT.

57 mm on the DSS610Z, and the blank Amazon row

The DSS610Z is the 165 mm LXT saw. At 90° Makita UK states 57 mm. At 45° it is 40 mm. At 50° it is 36 mm. Amazon’s rows do not carry those depths. A bevel at 45° can leave a decking board that cleared at 90° short of the far side. The limit reviewers name is the sleeper.

25.5 mm on the HS301DZ

The HS301DZ is the 85 mm CXT saw. Makita UK states 25.5 mm at 90° and 16.5 mm at 45°. The Amazon bullets omit the 90° number. A mitre can fail after the square cut looked fine. The rest of the buying order is on the Makita circular saw buying guide.

65 mm on the RS001GZ

The RS001GZ is the 185 mm XGT saw. Bullets and Makita UK agree on 65 mm at 90°, 45 mm at 45°, and 38 mm at 53°. At 53° the cut is less than the DSS610’s square cut. The extra depth does not make this the saw to buy if you have no XGT packs. Setting the shoe is on how to use a Makita circular saw.

Common questions

How deep does a Makita circular saw cut at 90°?
In this set, Makita UK states 57 mm for the DSS610, 25.5 mm for the HS301D, and 65 mm for the RS001G family. Those are maximum stated depths for a square cut, not a measurement of your board. Amazon’s rows omit 90° for the DSS610 and do not print 90° on the HS301 bullets. Quote Makita UK for those two, and you can quote either source for the RS001GZ because they match.
How much depth do you lose at 45°?
Makita UK states 40 mm at 45° on the DSS610, 16.5 mm at 45° on the HS301D, and 45 mm at 45° on the RS001G. The HS301 figure is also in the Amazon bullets. Go further and the DSS610 is stated at 36 mm at 50°, and the RS001G at 38 mm at 53°. A board that clears at 90° can miss on a bevel. Check the tilted figure before you mark the mitre.
Why is depth at 90° missing on the DSS610Z listing?
The amazon.co.uk specification rows in our extract leave depth at 90° and at 45° blank for the DSS610Z. That is a gap in the listing, not a sign that the saw has no stated depth. Makita UK publishes 57 mm, 40 mm, and 36 mm for 90°, 45°, and 50°. Use that page, then confirm the live Amazon bullets in case the row has been filled since 19 October 2026.
Will any of them cut a sleeper in one pass?
UK reviews say the DSS610Z will not clear a sleeper in one pass at its stated depth. A 57 mm maximum does not cover typical sleeper thickness. The HS301DZ, at 25.5 mm, is further away from that job. The RS001GZ states 65 mm, which is still a maximum you must tape against the sleeper in front of you rather than assume. If the timber is structural, use a competent person.
What depth is the HS301DZ at a square cut?
Makita UK states 25.5 mm at 90°. The Amazon bullets do not print that figure. They print 16.5 mm at 45°. UK reviews describe trim under about 25 mm on MDF, laminate, and floorboards. Measure the board. A 45° cut on the same piece uses the 16.5 mm limit, which is why a mitre can fail after a square cut looked comfortable.
Does a deeper cut mean the RS001GZ is the one to buy?
Only if you already need about 65 mm at 90° and you can run a 40 V max XGT pack. The depth is the largest stated figure here, and Makita UK agrees with the bullets. The bare saw still excludes a battery, the UK review file is 47 reviews, and a 45° or 53° bevel drops the cut to 45 mm or 38 mm. Depth is the filter on this page. Platform and review weight sit on the other guides.
