Makita circular saw buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a length of timber on the bench and an amazon.co.uk search full of circular saws that mention Makita. This Makita circular saw buying guide stays with three genuine bare bodies in our [Makita circular saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/makita-circular-saw): the DSS610Z at £119.00, the HS301DZ at £99.95, and the RS001GZ at £214.99, captured on 19 October 2026. None of the titles includes a battery or a charger. It does not name a winner. Peter F. compared those listings with the Makita UK pages. There was no lab cut. Confirm it is Makita, then match the pack you own

The first filter is the brand on the title, not the phrase “for Makita”. Listings that say “compatible with Makita 18V”, or that name Ryobi or Evolution, fell out at the fit check. Nine raw captures sat in a rough £40–£80 band. They are not these three bodies. The second filter is the platform you already run: 18 V LXT, 12 V CXT, or 40 V max XGT. Those packs do not swap. Price a genuine pack and charger before you treat the bare sticker as the cost of a cut. How the voltages differ is on Makita LXT, CXT or XGT.

Depth, the box, and the money still to add

Measure the timber before you compare prices. Makita UK states 57 mm, 25.5 mm, and 65 mm at 90° for the DSS610, the HS301D, and the RS001G family. Amazon’s rows for the DSS610 omit depth at 90°, so use Makita UK when the listing is blank. The bands are on Makita circular saw depth of cut. The DSS610Z includes a rip fence. The HS301DZ includes a dust nozzle and no rip fence. The RS001GZ includes a guide rule. None includes a battery, a charger, or a dust bag.

Rows on the listing you should not trust

Two Amazon cells say brushless on the DSS610Z and the HS301DZ. Makita UK does not. The RS001GZ is the body where the title and Makita UK agree. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers goods that do not match the description. Wattage cells often disagree with Makita UK. Speeds you can repeat are 3,700 rpm, 1,500 rpm, and 6,400 rpm. Declared sound power is 94 dB(A), 86 dB(A), and 103 dB(A). Employer action values under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 are 80 and 85 dB(A).

Dust, and when this guide stops

None of the three boxes includes a dust bag. A blower keeps the line visible. It does not collect wood dust. If you employ people, HSE limits are 5 mg/m³ for softwood dust and 3 mg/m³ for hardwood dust. Who each body fits is on the best Makita circular saw page. Structural timber, a fitted worktop you cannot see through, work at height, a guard that sticks, or a motor that smokes are reasons to stop and use a joiner.

Common questions

Does the Makita circular saw include a battery and charger?
No. The DSS610Z, HS301DZ, and RS001GZ titles on amazon.co.uk all exclude a battery and a charger. Each listing still expects a pack of the matching platform: 18 V LXT, 12 V CXT, or 40 V max XGT. The shelf prices of £119.00, £99.95, and £214.99, taken on 19 October 2026, are bare-body prices. Add a pack and charger you do not already own before you compare those figures with a kit.
Are “compatible with Makita” saws the same brand?
No. A title that says compatible with Makita, or that names another brand, is not one of the three bodies in this comparison. Those lookalikes were removed at the fit check. They can sit cheaper than £99.95 and still leave you with a different spindle, a different guard, and no Makita UK depth figure to check against the timber. Stay on the ASIN that names DSS610Z, HS301DZ, or RS001GZ.
Why does Amazon say brushless on some rows?
The special-features cell says brushless on the DSS610Z and the HS301DZ. Makita UK does not describe those models as brushless, and UK reviews dispute the DSS610 cell. Treat that row as a listing error. The RS001GZ is the body where the title, the feature row, and Makita UK agree on a brushless motor. Buying the smaller saws for a brushless claim is how the description and the product come apart.
What is in the box?
The DSS610Z box lists the saw, a hex wrench, a rip fence, and a TCT blade. The HS301DZ lists the saw, a dust nozzle, a hex wrench, and a TCT blade, without a rip fence. The RS001GZ lists the saw, a guide rule, an offset wrench, and a TCT blade. None of those lines includes a battery, a charger, or a dust bag. Check the included-components line on the live amazon.co.uk page in case the bundle changes.
Do I need a dust bag?
You will not find one in any of these three boxes. The smaller saws use a blower to clear the cut line, and the DSS610Z reviews mention a port for a vacuum. The HS301DZ includes a dust nozzle. A UK note on the RS001GZ asks for a bag the listing does not supply. A blower is not extraction.
