Corded vs cordless jigsaw

Updated: 16 October 2026

The advert makes a cordless jigsaw look like the modern default. In this amazon.co.uk set that default is often the wrong bill. A corded vs cordless jigsaw choice here is about where the board is, and about whether the price includes a battery. Eight corded saws run from £21.24 to £44.99. Two WORX kits name a 2.0 Ah pack. The Mekturm at £34.99 says the battery is not included. The rows are on the [jigsaw comparison](/hub/power-saws/jigsaw). Depth and locks stay on the [jigsaw buying guide](/hub/power-saws/jigsaw/sub/jigsaw-buying-guide). The shortlist is the [best jigsaw](/hub/power-saws/jigsaw/sub/jigsaw-best) page.

What you are comparing

Electrical Safety First puts corded saws on long cuts where you have continuous power, and cordless saws where the lead will not reach. Screwfix makes the same split: a lead for a longer job, a pack when you do not want a cable across the cut. BuildWiz’s rough bands, about £24 to £55 corded and about £110 to £220 for a bare trade body, show why £35 and £150 are not the same cordless purchase. This set does not measure a like-for-like cut. A corded saw stops at the end of the lead. A cordless saw stops when the pack is flat, and only if that pack was in the box or already yours. If the socket is beside the work, choose corded.

Corded, when the cut is next to a socket

Choose corded when the cut is long enough to care about runtime and the socket is in the same room. The price includes the motor. The corded rows are both DEKOPRO models, the DESOON, the HYCHIKA, the Enventor, both BLACK+DECKER models and the Bosch PST 700 E. The cheapest is the 400 W DEKOPRO at £21.24, with a stated 55 mm wood cut. The dearest is the Bosch at £44.99, with a stated 70 mm cut and a case. The limit is the lead and the plug. Electrical Safety First wants a fused UK 3-pin plug. A bent DESOON pin and a damaged 800 W DEKOPRO plug are returns. A 220 V line is still a mains tool for nominal 230 V, not a battery voltage.

Cordless, when the battery is really in the price

The WORX kits are the cordless prices that try to include a pack. The WX543.2 is £149.99, 20 V, with a 2.0 Ah battery and charger in the highlight, a stated 80 mm wood cut and 4.6 from 87 reviews. The wattage field prints 543.2 W, which is the model number, not a motor rating beside an 800 W corded saw. The Mekturm is not that purchase, even at £34.99. The bullets say an 18 V or 20 V platform, and no battery. The file is 3.0 from eight reviews, and one saw smoked on the second use. The bullets do not name DeWalt. Skip it unless you already accept that unnamed interface.

The saw that is also a reciprocating saw

The WORX WX550.4 at £129.99 pivots between reciprocating saw and jigsaw. The highlight lists one 2.0 Ah battery, while the included field also says bare tool. Amazon ranks it under reciprocating saws. No wood depth is stated. Buy it when you want both modes and you can live without a stated depth. The first cut is on how to use a jigsaw. Choose corded beside a long cut, and cordless when a pack is in the price or already yours. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Common questions

Will a cordless jigsaw cut as well as a corded one?
This set does not measure that. Corded saws suit a long cut beside a socket. Cordless saws suit a place the lead will not reach. The WX543.2 states 80 mm in wood. Several corded rows state 55 mm to 110 mm. The WX550.4 states none. Judge runtime and reach, not an untested edge.
Why is one cordless saw £35 and another £150?
The Mekturm at £34.99 is a body, and the battery is not included. The two WORX kits name a 2.0 Ah pack and a charger. A £35 cordless price here is not a complete kit. A £150 price is a platform, not a heavier £21 DEKOPRO.
Do I need to own the battery already?
You need a pack in the box, or one you own that the listing actually names. The WORX highlights name a 2.0 Ah battery. The Mekturm says the battery is not included and names no brand, so a review about an 18 V fit is not a DeWalt specification. The WX550.4 included field also says bare tool, which conflicts with the highlight. A corded saw does not need a pack at all.
Is the WORX 2-in-1 a jigsaw or a reciprocating saw?
It is both, on the listing. The head pivots, and it takes reciprocating blades and T-shank jigsaw blades. Amazon ranks that ASIN under reciprocating saws. There is no stated wood depth and no bevel. Seven UK reviews like both modes. Buy it if you want both. If you only want a jigsaw with a printed depth, use a corded row or the WX543.2, which states 80 mm in wood.
Can I use the saw in the garden?
A cordless saw is what Electrical Safety First points at when the lead will not reach, including outdoor timber you would rather not trail a cable to. You still need a pack that is included or already owned, and a charger with a UK 3-pin plug indoors. A corded saw on an extension across wet ground is the worse option. Pruning and demolition sit closer to the WX550.4’s reciprocating mode than to a small corded jigsaw.
The listing says 220 V. Is that all right in the UK?
Yes, as a mains figure, if the plug is a fused UK 3-pin. Both DEKOPRO listings and the DESOON print 220 V. The HYCHIKA prints 230 V and the Bosch prints 240 V. Nominal UK supply is 230 V, so 220 V is not an 18 V battery. If a BLACK+DECKER line also says a lithium-ion battery is required, believe the corded line. A bent pin is a return.
