Best fine cut saw

Updated: 21 October 2026

You want one saw for skirting and plastic trim, or one short pull saw for a dowel, and the amazon.co.uk best-seller line only tells you what other people clicked. A high star rating is not a job description. This page names a listing for each job inside the [fine saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/fine-saw), and it names who should leave that listing on the shelf. Prices and stars are from the amazon.co.uk files read on 19 October 2026. Peter F. did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Nothing here is the best fine cut saw in Britain. It is the best fit among these ten listings for a stated cut.

Toolbox trim under £10

OX reviews describe clean cuts in wood, MDF, plastic and acrylic, including doors, shed timber and small branches. The teeth row says 14, one review says the edge did not stay sharp, and an AC power row is noise. The blade carries 45° and 90° guide lines, and the listed weight is 390 g. Draper buyers report easy cuts for small DIY, including fence panels, shrubs and a first pallet, and they like the TPR grip at 340 g. A minority report snagging, a slightly rusty arrival, or a blade protector that will not go back on. Rows for 4,500 rpm and an AAAA battery do not make it a power tool. Neither saw lies flat on a finished face.

A single small pull saw

Reviews call the SURFOU very sharp on softwood, hardboard, trim and small joinery, and they use it in a stair wedge, a door lining and a tight gap. One buyer trimmed fence panels one-handed. The blade is described as screwed in, and no spare is in the box. There is no pouch, so the unused edge stays a cut risk while you work. Skip it for a stump, where the plate flexes and buyers wanted something longer. The stroke is on Japanese pull saw vs handsaw.

Flush in the title is not flush in the reviews

GARTOL is a 6 inch saw sold as flush-cut plus a double-edged ryoba, at 150 g. Buyers praise very sharp teeth for close straight cuts, small frames and balsa, once they pull. The same file says the blades flex and wander, and that handles arrived loose. One material row says high speed steel and the bullets say SK5. Magicbox’s bullets name two double-edge saws, a flush-cut saw and specialty saws, and they print no TPI. Twenty-seven UK texts praise fine cuts on dowels and models, and they also say the thin plate bends and one edge dulled quickly. Skip it for skirting. Set and shims are on the flush cut saw page.

The £29.99 folding saw

The KLRStec is a 240 mm folding pull saw with a nylon pouch and a lock, and the bullets name hardened SK5. English-language reviews praise sharp cuts on dowels, joinery and small branches once the pull stroke is familiar. The teeth row says 3, which is not a TPI, and a spare blade is not included. One buyer found the finish less clean than a ryoba they already owned. It is the carry option, not the accuracy option, and only if you already pull. Skip it if this would be your first pull saw.

What not to crown

A Bahco PrizeCut 350 mm 15 TPI is a UK trade pattern of the same length and pitch as the OX, sold outside this comparison at about £11.60 including VAT. It is context, not an ASIN in this set, and it is not a winner here. The HAUTMEC and Vigaoc 350 mm saws state 11 or 12 TPI and cost £13.99 to £14.99, with smaller review files and complaints about dulling, binding or rust. They stay on the main table, not as the picks above.

Common questions

Which saw is the sensible toolbox buy under £10?
For a finer edge on trim, MDF and plastic, the OX Pro at £7.43 states 15 TPI and has 4.7 from 356 reviews. For the lowest price and the largest file, the Draper 80874 at £6.50 has 4.5 from 832 reviews and a maker’s figure of 11 TPI / 12 PPI. Skip the OX if the 14-versus-15 clash on the listing bothers you. Skip the Draper if you need that finer tooth, or if snagging in the reviews is a problem for the timber you cut.
Is the Draper or the OX the finer tooth?
The OX title says 15 TPI. Draper’s own page says the 80874 is 11 TPI and 12 PPI, while the amazon bullets print 12 PPI only. Fifteen teeth to the inch is the finer count. The Draper is the second-fix pitch, not a match for the OX. Neither figure is a flush-cut claim, and the OX teeth row still says 14, so the OX pitch is the less tidy of the two packets.
Which pull saw is for dowels rather than for carrying?
The SURFOU at £7.99 and 100 g is the dowel and tight-gap saw in this set, with a coarse edge and a fine edge, if you accept that TPI is not stated and there is no pouch. The KLRStec at £29.99 is the one that folds into a pouch. Buy the folder only after you already cut on the pull, and only if the lock is sound. A folding saw with a weak joint is a poor dowel saw, however neat the pouch is.
Is the dearest saw the best saw?
No. The KLRStec is £29.99, the highest price here, with 4.4 from 553 reviews. Buyers like the cut once they pull, and they also report a weak or missing lock pin. The OX at £7.43 has a higher rating from a large file and a stated 15 TPI, for a different job. Pay £29.99 when you need the fold and the pouch, not because the price implies a better edge.
What should I do about a four-piece set with no star line?
Leave the SANTUO kit off the shortlist. It is £14.89, it claims four pull saws, and the raw file has no rating and no UK review text. The Magicbox set at £17.99 at least has 70 reviews, and those reviews limit it to light work. An unreviewed kit can still arrive sharp. You cannot tell that from this batch, so it does not get a rank.
Does a best-seller rank mean it cuts flush?
No. Rank is a sales line, not a measurement of set. The GARTOL title says flush, and reviews both praise close cuts and say the cut is not flush. Look at the teeth. If you can see set, the face will scratch. A handsaw best-seller badge does not replace that check.
Who should not buy a 15 TPI saw?
Skip 15 TPI if you are cutting wet logs, a deep rip, or a stack of chipboard and laminate. The fine tooth clogs in thick or green wood, and a hardpoint dulls quickly on abrasive board. Also skip it if you need a no-set flush cut on a finished face. The OX is the 15 TPI listing here, with the 14-tooth row as the caveat, and it is a push saw for the edge of a board.
