How to use an Einhell mitre saw

Updated: 21 October 2026

The scale says 0 degrees, and you are about to trust it with trim you cannot easily replace. This is how to use an Einhell mitre saw for that first cut: power off while you set it, a square rather than the laser, hands clear, and the blade stopped before you reach in. The [Einhell mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/einhell-mitre-saw) is where the seven models sit. If the board is wider than the saw can span, the [buying guide](/hub/power-saws/einhell-mitre-saw/sub/einhell-mitre-saw-buying-guide) is the next page. Skirting joints are on the [skirting](/hub/power-saws/einhell-mitre-saw/sub/einhell-mitre-saw-skirting) page. Blade changes go back to the Einhell manual. Fix the saw and take the power off

Bolt or clamp the saw so it cannot walk. Heatons' sliding-mitre safety sheet says fix the saw at about waist height, cut one piece at a time, and do not cut freehand. A kitchen chair is too low, and a shelf that rocks is not a bench. If you only have a Workmate, put the feet on solid timber, not on a plastic jaw that flexes. Take the power off before you adjust anything. On the TC-MS 2112, the TC-SM 216, the TC-SM 2534/1 Dual and the TE-SM 8L, that means the plug is out, not merely that the trigger is released. UK mains are 230 V. These listings say 220 V, 230 V or 240 V. On the TE-MS 18/210, the TE-SM 36/210 and the TE-SM 36/10 Li, take the Power X-Change packs off. A trigger lock is not the same as the packs being out. SGS Engineering's UK how-to says unplug, or remove the battery, before you move a guard, a bevel stop or a blade. Do that even for a small nudge of the fence.

Set 0 degrees with a square, not with the laser

The printed 0 is a starting mark. UK reviews on the TC-SM 216 say the saw was usable after the blade was set upright and square, which is another way of saying it was not finished when it came out of the box. On the TC-MS 2112, several UK buyers found it square with little adjustment, and others did not trust it on larger skirting. On the TE-MS 18/210, one buyer adjusted the tilt stop slightly. On the TC-SM 2534/1 Dual, one UK review reached about 43 degrees rather than the marked 45, and the angle scale was a sticker. Check the saw you have, including a model that other people found true. Put a known square against the fence and the side of a lowered blade, with the plug out or the packs off, and look for light under the square. If you can see a gap at the fence, move the fence or the stop until the gap goes. Then cut a scrap, flip one half, and hold the two cuts together. A square corner of scrap that opens at the front or the back means the mitre stop is out, even if the scale still reads 0. Evolution's UK how-to uses that offcut check. Do it before the piece that has to fit a wall. The laser does not replace this. On the TC-SM 216 and the TC-SM 2534/1 Dual, UK reviews say the line can be faint, off the blade or missing. Set the saw, then see whether the laser agrees.

Make one cut and wait

Support the board so the offcut cannot drop and pinch the blade. Use the clamp if it clears the cut. On the TC-MS 2112, UK reviews say the clamp hits the cut once the head tilts past about 35 degrees, so a steep bevel may need the clamp moved or the board held by a stop that is not in the blade path. Heatons says not to cut pieces shorter than 20 cm. That is their workshop rule, not a statute, and it is a sensible limit when your fingers would otherwise sit next to a short offcut. SGS says keep hands at least 15 cm from the blade. Evolution's UK page says at least six inches, which is the same distance. Use 15 cm as the figure. Do not reach under a spinning blade to catch a falling piece. Start the saw and let it get to full speed before the teeth touch the wood. Bring the head down, or pull the slide through, in one steady pass. Do not force a corded 1,600 W saw, and do not stall a cordless saw by leaning on it. When the cut is finished, let the head return and wait until the blade has stopped. Then move your hands. Lifting the head while the blade is still spinning can throw the offcut, and it can scar the face you just cut. SGS is explicit about that full stop. If you are cutting a second angle, unplug or remove the packs again before you swing the table. A 45 degree mitre plus a 45 degree mitre only makes a right angle if the corner you are fitting is actually 90 degrees, and only after the stops are true.

Laser, dust, and the point where you stop

Treat the laser as a check you can ignore. The TC-MS 2112 does not list one, and a UK buyer who expected a laser from a promo video did not find one. On the TC-SM 216 the fitting can be there with no light, or the line can miss the pencil mark in daylight. On the TC-SM 2534/1 Dual the laser is mains-powered in the bullets and still useless outdoors in bright light for some reviewers. If the line and the kerf disagree, believe the kerf on the scrap, not the red mark. The dust bag is only a bag. UK reviews call the TC-MS 2112 bag pointless, and on the TE-MS 18/210 a bag collected nothing over a week. One TC-SM 216 buyer found the bag missing. The TC-SM 216 bullets do state a 36 mm extractor port, and Einhell's sheet for the TE-SM 36/210 also states a 36 mm adapter. Do not assume that port on a model that does not print it. At work, HSE's woodworking guidance expects extraction at the blade and an M-class vacuum, and the dust bag does not meet that duty. At home the dust is still there. Do not dry-sweep it into the air. None of these seven listings states a sound level. Evolution warns that mitre saws can reach 113 dB. That is their sentence, not a measurement of an Einhell. For employers, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 use 80 dB(A) and 85 dB(A) action values and an 87 dB(A) limit at the ear. Hearing protection is the sensible default even though this page cannot quote an Einhell decibel figure. Stop and use your consumer rights, rather than another cut, if the motor sparks, the casting is cracked, or the guard does not cover the blade. A TC-SM 2534/1 Dual buyer described a sparking motor and a burning smell on a saw that looked used. A TC-SM 216 buyer returned a unit because the guard stopped. A TE-MS 18/210 angle cut caught the guard and broke teeth. Those are returns, not adjustments. If the timber is structural, or it is not wood, laminated board or plastic, do not experiment with these wood blades. Asbestos, metal and masonry are outside every honest bullet in this set. Employees using the saw as work equipment are in PUWER territory, which is a conversation with the employer, not a weekend setup.

Common questions

How do I check an Einhell mitre saw is square before I cut trim?
Unplug it, or take the packs off. Hold a square to the fence and the side of the blade, then cut a scrap and flip one half against the other. A gap means the stop is out even if the scale reads 0. UK reviews on the TC-SM 216 describe the saw as usable after that kind of setup. Do this before the piece that has to meet another piece on a wall.
How far should my hands stay from the blade?
Keep them at least 15 cm away, which is the distance SGS states and the six inches Evolution states. Heatons' sheet also says not to cut pieces shorter than 20 cm, as a workshop rule rather than a law, because a short offcut puts your fingers next to the teeth. Use the clamp when it does not collide with the cut, and do not reach under the blade to catch the offcut.
Do I lift the head while the blade is still spinning?
No. Finish the cut, let the head rise under its own return if the saw is sprung that way, and wait until the blade has stopped. SGS tells you to wait for that full stop before your hands move in. Lifting early can throw the offcut back into the teeth and mark the face you have just cut. The next angle change happens with the plug out or the packs off.
Why does the laser miss the pencil line?
Because on these Einhells the laser is often faint, shifted or not lit. UK reviews say that about the TC-SM 216 and the TC-SM 2534/1 Dual, including a line that is not on the blade and a fitting that does not light. The TC-MS 2112 does not list a laser. Mark the cut, set 0 degrees with a square, and use the laser only if it agrees with a test kerf.
Is the dust bag enough in a garage?
It is a bag, not extraction. Reviewers describe the TC-MS 2112 bag as pointless and a TE-MS 18/210 bag that collected nothing over a week. The TC-SM 216 states a 36 mm port if you have a vacuum. HSE expects local exhaust and an M-class vacuum when the saw is used at work, and the bag does not satisfy that. At home, do not dry-sweep the dust.
When do I unplug, and when do I take the packs out?
Unplug the TC-MS 2112, the TC-SM 216, the TC-SM 2534/1 Dual and the TE-SM 8L before any adjustment, including a fence nudge. Take both packs off a 36 V saw, and the single pack off the TE-MS 18/210. Releasing the trigger leaves the saw able to start. Put the power back only when your hands are clear and the guard is in place.
What should I do if the motor sparks or the guard sticks?
Stop, unplug or remove the packs, and return the saw. Do not keep cutting. UK review notes include a sparking motor and a burning smell on a TC-SM 2534/1 Dual delivery, a TC-SM 216 guard that stopped, and a TE-MS 18/210 blade that caught the guard. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers goods that are not as described or not of satisfactory quality. A sticking guard is not a setup step.
