How to use an Einhell circular saw

Updated: 21 October 2026

The first cut goes wrong when the blade is buried or the shoe is not square, even if the pencil line was careful. This is how to use an Einhell circular saw for a straight cut in wood: set the depth, prove 90 degrees on scrap, change the blade with the pack out or the plug pulled, and stop if the motor smokes. The [Einhell circular saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/einhell-circular-saw) holds the eight listings. This page does not rank them. Peter F. used those listings, UK-marked reviews, HSE’s wood-dust pages, and the TC-CS 1410 instruction PDF, and did not lab-test the saws. Depth and a square

Leave only a shallow tooth below the wood. Machine Mart’s generic guide uses about 5–7 mm. That is a rule of thumb, not an Einhell specification. More blade adds friction, and less than a full tooth can leave an uncut fibre, so you set the shoe on scrap of the same thickness, with the power off, before the real board. On the 89 mm mini the bullet stops at 28 mm. A UK review says the depth lock worked loose, so you recheck it after the first metre. UK reviews also include shoes that were not square when the scale said 90 degrees. Put a try square on the shoe and the blade with the pack removed or the plug out, then make a short cut in scrap. If the offcut leans, adjust and cut the scrap again. The 165-1 bullet states 35 mm at 45 degrees, the 165-2 states 39 mm, and the TC-CS 1410 states 46 mm. Other rows leave bevel depth unstated, so a steep cut near the limit is a scrap test. How those depths were chosen is the Einhell circular saw buying guide.

Changing the blade

Take the power off before the blade comes off. On every Solo body, the Power X-Change pack is off the saw. On the TC-CS 1410, pull the 230 V plug. The manual for that corded model says to press the spindle lock, undo the screw with the supplied key, and match the arrow to the rotation. Do not run the saw with the key in it. A different model, the TC-CS 1410/1, is 184 mm with a 16 mm holder. Do not copy that bore onto this TC-CS 1410, whose bullet says 30 mm. The 150 mm bullet says 10 mm or 16 mm, the 165-1 and 165-2 say 20 mm, and the corded saw says 30 mm. Bore is unstated on amazon for the mini, the 136 mm saw, the TP-CS 18/165, and the 190 mm listing, so you read the blade that came in that box before you order a spare. Spin the blade by hand with the power still off, and check that the guard returns. The 1410 manual’s proper use is straight cuts in wood, wood-type materials, and plastics. Metal is outside that use. A guide rail is a separate accessory, on the Einhell circular saw guide rail page.

Dust

HSE’s guidance on cutting wood expects on-tool extraction, and for longer indoor cutting it expects respiratory protection at APF 20, such as FFP3. The workplace limits in our notes are 3 mg/m³ for hardwood dust and 5 mg/m³ for softwood. A single offcut in a garage with the door open is not a morning of MDF in a closed room. If the cut is long, the timber is hardwood, or you are indoors, connect a vacuum and wear the mask. The 89 mm box list includes a vacuum adapter. The TC-CS 1410 bullet names a dust connection, and one UK review says there is no side vacuum port on the saw they received. If yours has no port, you cannot tape one on. If the work is paid and nobody has assessed dust or noise, a joiner takes the cut.

When to stop

A coasting blade on the TE-CS 18/165-1 is a UK review theme, and the bullets do not state a brake. Keep the shoe down until the blade stops. The TP-CS 18/165 and the 136 mm saw state a brake. On the other rows a brake is not stated, so assume the blade may coast until your own saw shows otherwise. A UK review of the TC-CS 1410 burned the wood until the supplied blade was replaced. Scorch after a new blade, with the depth set shallow, is a reason to stop. Return the saw if it smokes, if it will not turn, or if it cuts out and then needs about half a minute before it will run. That cut-out is the UK-marked review on the 165-2. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a smoked motor is a matter for the amazon.co.uk seller. Do not open the housing to free a brake. Structural timber, paid work with no dust or noise assessment, and any cut in metal go to a professional. Which listing you bought is the best Einhell circular saw page.

Common questions

How far should the blade stick out below the wood?
Leave about 5–7 mm of tooth below the board. That is Machine Mart’s generic rule of thumb, not an Einhell bullet. Set it on scrap of the same thickness, with the pack off or the plug pulled. On the 89 mm saw the cut still has to stay inside 28 mm. A UK review says that depth lock can work loose, so check it again after you start.
How do I check the bevel is actually 90 degrees?
Set the scale, then put a try square between the shoe and the blade with the power removed. Cut a short piece of scrap and check the offcut. UK reviews include bevels that were not square when the stamp said they were. If the scrap leans, adjust and cut again.
How do I change the blade on an Einhell with a spindle lock?
Remove the Power X-Change pack, or pull the plug on the TC-CS 1410. Press the spindle lock, undo the screw with the supplied key, and match the arrow. Take the key out before you restore power. Match the bore the bullet states: 10 mm or 16 mm, 20 mm, or 30 mm. The 1410/1 manual’s 16 mm holder is a different model.
Do I need extraction and a mask for a short DIY cut?
A short cut in a ventilated space is a smaller exposure than a morning of indoor sheet. HSE still expects on-tool extraction, and RPE at APF 20, such as FFP3, for longer cutting indoors. Connect the adapter if the saw has one. One UK review of the TC-CS 1410 found no side port.
When do I stop and return the saw?
Return it if it smokes, if it will not start, or if it cuts out and needs about half a minute before it runs again. That pattern is the UK review on the 165-2. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the route with the seller. Call a joiner for structural timber, for paid work with no dust or noise assessment, and for metal.
