Updated: October 2026

You are comparing a £28.99 reciprocating saw with a £49.94 kit, and the lower number is not yet the cheaper way to make a cut. A reciprocating saw bare tool or kit decision turns on whether a usable battery is already in the house. Why the lowest price may not be ready to cut

The lowest price here is the cupeohome body at £28.99. The listing includes the saw and four blades, and no battery. The bullets print DeWalt codes from DCB180 through DCB240. That list is the seller’s claim, not a DeWalt approval. This page does not add a made-up pack price to the £28.99. From 56 ratings at 3.6, more than one review says the motor smoked on small wood. One parcel had no blades. With no pack at home, £28.99 cannot start.

The five bare tools in this set

Five listings are bodies. cupeohome at £28.99 claims a DeWalt fit and includes no battery. Einhell’s TE-AP 18/22 at £49.99 is Power X-Change, with no charger. The Bosch Keo at £69.98 is an 18 V garden saw. The DeWalt DCS369N-XJ at £119.99 and the DCS367N-XJ at £141.98 are 18 V XR tools, each sold as the saw alone. The Einhell makes sense when the packs are already on the shelf: 4.5 from 7,661 reviews, 22 mm in the title, and £49.99 is then the price of the saw. Both DeWalt pages omit stroke. The Keo is bare in the same way. Its garden job is on the pruning page.

What a kit is supposed to contain

A first-cut kit names the saw, a battery, a charger and a blade on the included-components line. DEKOPRO at £49.94 lists one 2.0 Ah pack, a charger and one wood blade, while the highlight mentions two. GALAX PRO at £47.30 lists one 2.0 Ah pack, a charger and five blades. ABNBO at £47.49 lists two 2.0 Ah batteries, and the same page says 12 V and 40 watts. XIAZIR at £79.99 lists two batteries on the components line and puts the blades in the bullets. blayram’s components field says “Attachments”. The platform check continues on the buying guide.

Which way to buy

Buy a kit if you own no packs. GALAX PRO is the best value when the battery has to be in the box: £47.30, 4.3 from 535 reviews, with weak metal blades as the limit. DEKOPRO is the alternative when you want 20–22 mm written down and can live with 47 reviews. Buy a bare tool only in the family you already own. Einhell at £49.99 is that purchase for Power X-Change. The two DeWalt bodies are that purchase for 18 V XR. The Keo is that purchase for a Bosch 18 V pack when the job is branches from the ground. Which model fits is on the best cordless reciprocating saw page.

Common questions

Is the £28.99 saw the cheapest way to start?
It is the lowest shelf price, and it starts only if a DeWalt pack is already yours. The cupeohome body includes no battery, and reviews at 3.6 from 56 include motors that smoked on small wood. The GALAX PRO at £47.30 includes a 2.0 Ah pack and a charger on the components line, which is a different kind of price.
When is a bare Einhell actually cheaper?
When you already own Power X-Change batteries and a charger. The TE-AP 18/22 at £49.99 is then the saw and one claimed wood blade, with 4.5 from 7,661 reviews and 22 mm in the title. If you still need a pack, that £49.99 is only the first line. This set does not state a separate UK price for an Einhell battery.
What is missing from a DeWalt bare unit?
The DCS369 at £119.99 and the DCS367 at £141.98 are the saw only. You add an 18 V XR battery and a blade. Neither Amazon page states stroke or strokes per minute. Lawson HIS prints 28.6 mm and 0–2,900 SPM for the DCS367, which is not the Amazon row. Toolstation has listed that body at £189.99 including VAT.
Do kit blades always arrive?
They do not, in the reviews. Rivlox, Einhell, cupeohome and ABNBO each have a report of missing blades where the page lists them. XIAZIR and blayram put blades in the bullets and not clearly on the components line. Photograph the parcel and tell the seller. Citizens Advice covers goods that do not match the description.
Can you put a kit’s 21 V pack on your Makita tools?
Fledukten’s listing says the opposite. The body is claimed to accept Makita 18 V batteries, and the included 21 V packs cannot be used in other brands’ tools. blayram states the same limit. A Makita-shaped sentence is not a reason to charge these packs on a Makita charger.
Is a case part of a kit?
Only when the included-components line says so. Fledukten includes a case that reviewers call flimsy. XIAZIR mentions a case in the bullets, while the components line lists two batteries. DEKOPRO, GALAX PRO, Einhell and both DeWalt bodies do not list a case. A case in a photograph is not a case in the box list.
Should you buy a second platform if you already own 18 V packs?
Buy the bare tool in the family you have. A 20 V or 21 V kit is a second charger and a battery that will not run your existing DeWalt, Einhell or Bosch tools. It is worth it when you want this saw to stand alone. It is a duplicate spend when one more pack on the platform you own would run a bare body.
