What you are actually buying

A mitre is the angle across the fence. A bevel is the tilt of the head. A slide lets a wider board fit than a chop saw of the same diameter. A 216 mm disc is not a 216 mm board. The GCM 800 SJ at £229.80 (B00S9XNPGQ) and the GCM 80 SJ at £315.81 (B01E4DFULW) both claim 216 mm, 1,400 W, 13.5 kg and 270 mm horizontal capacity. They are not the same offer. The parts are 0601B19070 and 0.601.B19.001. The GCM305-216S at £209.49 adds an LED line. The GCM 305-254 D is £627.87. The cordless bodies are £453.00 and £619.07. The next number is the cut at 45 degrees.

Capacity at 45 degrees

Bosch’s GB pages, not the amazon cells, print the angle capacities. The GCM 800 SJ is 70 x 190 mm at 45 degrees mitre. The GCM305-216S is 70 x 215 mm at 45 degrees. The 254 mm D models are 90 x 215 mm at 45 degrees. The compact amazon bullets only say 270 mm horizontal, and the GCM305-216S bullets print no capacity. If you quote a 45 degree figure, say it came from Bosch. A BuildWiz guide puts typical ogee or torus roughly in the 119–170 mm band. Measure the board. A wider board than that row will not fit. Bevel, mains, and the box

The GCM 800 SJ is 45 degrees left only. The GCM305-216S is 47 degrees left and 2 degrees right, not a full dual bevel. The three D models are 47 degrees both ways. Corded pages are 220–240 V for a UK 13 A socket. Both cordless listings are solo, with no battery or charger. Bosch names an EXPERT 18 V pack of 8 Ah or 12 Ah. None of these six titles is a 110 V site tool. The split is on cordless or corded. The GCM 80 SJ title says two blades and the bullets say one. A dust bag is not M-class extraction. The Health and Safety Executive expects M-class or H-class extraction for wood dust at work.

Listing cells you should not use

Read the title and the bullets, then treat a lonely specification cell as suspect when it fights them. The GCM 800 SJ title says 240 V and the voltage cell says 24. The GCM 305-254 D voltage cell also says 24 V, and its wattage cell says 250 W. Bosch’s GB page for that corded saw lists 1,500 W. Three cells in this set are conflicts, not specifications.

Common questions

Is a 216 mm Bosch enough for skirting?
Often, if you stand the board on the fence and it is inside the 45 degree crosscut. Bosch states 70 x 190 mm at 45 degrees mitre for the GCM 800 SJ, and 70 x 215 mm for the GCM305-216S. Measure your board before you treat 216 mm as the cut. A wide board laid flat can miss that row even when the blade looks large enough in the photo.
Do I need dual bevel for architrave?
Not for architrave stood on the fence, because you can flip the piece and keep a left-only head. You do want both directions when the moulding is cut flat and flipping it would turn the face over. In this set, full dual bevel is on the three D models, not on the GCM 800 SJ.
What is the difference between the GCM 800 SJ and the GCM 80 SJ listing?
Both amazon listings claim a 270 mm horizontal capacity, 13.5 kg and a 216 mm class blade. The 800 SJ is £229.80 under part 0601B19070. The 80 SJ is £315.81 under part 0.601.B19.001, and its title says two blades while the bullets say one. Same size class is not the same offer.
Why does one listing say 24 volts?
Because a specification cell has been filled with a figure the title contradicts. The GCM 800 SJ title says 240 V. The GCM 305-254 D is a corded saw whose cell also says 24 V. Use the title and the Bosch page. Do not buy a transformer for a number that is a cell error.
Does the cordless box include a battery?
No. Both the GCM 18V-216 D at £453.00 and the GCM 18V-254 D at £619.07 are solo. The scope lists a blade, supports, a dust bag and a clamp. Bosch names an EXPERT 18 V pack of 8 Ah or 12 Ah for runtime, and that pack is a separate purchase.
Which figure is the cut: blade diameter or the 45 degree capacity?
The 45 degree capacity. A 254 mm blade on the GCM 305-254 D is paired, on the Bosch page, with 90 x 215 mm at 45 degrees mitre, not with a 254 mm board. The amazon bullet of 270 mm horizontal on the compact saws is a 0 degree style width, not the mitre width.
