9kW fan heater buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with a garage or a small workshop in mind, and the title says 9 kW. A 9kW fan heater in that search is often a 400 V three-phase machine, and the same results still mix in 2 kW and 2.8 kW heaters. Before you add a listing to the basket, read the supply, the printed watts, the heat steps, the connector, the element line, and the unit on any coverage claim. The scores stay on the [9 kW fan heater comparison](/hub/portable-heaters/9kw-fan-heater). This page is the decision order. It does not crown a model. Peter F. updated it on 20 October 2026. These heaters were not run in a lab. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the socket, not the wattage in the title

The heater you are trying to buy runs on 400 V or 415 V three-phase. A normal UK 13 A plug is the wrong category. If the listing never mentions 400 V, 415 V, three-phase or a 16 A industrial connector, you are still in the domestic result set. The DAHTEC IFHO3-90-G listings print a rejection of a household socket. Broughton’s IFH9, outside this set, was listed at £164.64 including VAT and will not run on a standard 240 V three-pin socket. The BG-C9/3 prints tip-over and IP24, and it does not print that rejection. A missing line is a reason to read the plug twice. It is not proof the heater is a 13 A appliance. Pin count, and whether a new circuit in an English home is notifiable, belongs on the 9kW fan heater three-phase supply page.

Read the heat steps in watts

You want a fan-only figure, a middle heat step, and 9,000 W, each in watts. On the IFHO3-90-G that is 52 W, 4,500 W and 9,000 W. On the BGP1506-09 it is 80 W, 6,000 W and 9,000 W. The SIP Turbofan 9001 prints a 16 A plug on Amazon and leaves the lower watts out. SIP’s page for item 09299 prints 9 kW, 4.5 kW and a 52 W fan. The EH9001 amazon file does not print a 4,500 W step. Sealey’s own page does. Do not paste the maker watts into the amazon row. Shelf prices run from about £69 to about £189.

Element, IP and the coverage unit

The BGP1506-09 title talks ceramic, and the spec field prints a coil. The PEH9001 title says PTC, the amazon element field says radiant, and Sealey’s sheet says PTC. Amazon also prints 10 x 10 x 10 mm. A chassis of 10 mm a side is not a size you can plan a bench around. Keep the maker sheet and the amazon block as two sources. IP24 on the IFHO3-90-G and the BG-C9/3 is a splash rating for an indoor field. The BGP1506-09 prints no IP code. Reviews describe an industrial plug, so do not treat a UK-plug bullet as BS 1363 until the photo shows one. EH9001 states 80 m³. IFHO and BGP1506-09 state 861 sq ft, about 80 m², not 80 m³. Amazon prints “180mtr” for the PEH9001, while the maker sheet states 180 m³. Those are claims, not a measured room, and converting square feet does not produce Sealey’s volume. The BG-C9/3 prints no coverage figure. An open door is the 9kW fan heater for a garage or workshop page.

What this amazon.co.uk set actually prints

The black IFHO3-90-G, B0FFY26283, is about £126.65. The silver IFHO3-90-G, B0FFYGZPHR, is about £149.00. They are one model in two colours. The extra £22.35 does not buy a tip-over sentence or a review file. The BG-C9/3 is the only kept DAHTEC file that prints tip-over, and both thermostat fields say 40 °C. One star with no review text is not a written case that a heater is unfit. If the socket is missing, stop and ask an electrician.

Common questions

Will a 9 kW fan heater run from a normal UK plug?
No. A 13 A socket is in the order of 3 kW. The 9 kW machines in this set are 400 V or 415 V three-phase heaters on a 16 A supply, at about 13 A per phase. A 9 kW title on a 220 V, 2 kW heater is a different product. If the plug does not match a socket you already have, read the supply page, not an adapter.
What wattage should the listing actually print?
Look for watts, not a slogan. A clear block prints a fan-only figure, a middle step, and 9,000 W. On the IFHO3-90-G that is 52 W, 4,500 W and 9,000 W. On the BGP1506-09 it is 80 W, 6,000 W and 9,000 W. A page that says only “9 kW” and “three settings” has left the lower steps off the file you are buying from.
What is the middle heat step for, 4.5 kW or 6 kW?
Both appear, on different models. The IFHO3-90-G and the SIP maker page use about 4.5 kW. The BGP1506-09 prints 6 kW. The middle step halves the draw when the room does not need the full element. It is not a second product.
Does IP24 mean I can use it outside or in the rain?
IP24 on the IFHO3-90-G and the BG-C9/3 is splash resistance printed for an indoor field. It does not authorise rain, a soaked floor, or a garden. The BGP1506-09 prints no IP rating and tells you not to use it in damp areas. A garden mention in a bullet is not a reason to stand any of these outside.
The title says ceramic or PTC and the spec says coil or radiant. Which line do I trust?
Trust neither line on its own when they contradict. On the BGP1506-09 the title is ceramic and the spec field is a coil. On the PEH9001 the title is PTC, the amazon element field says radiant, and Sealey’s sheet says PTC. Say that the sources disagree. Do not average them into one element type, and do not treat a 10 x 10 x 10 mm dimension as the chassis.
How much does 9 kW cost to run for an hour?
About £2.37 an hour at 9 kW, and about £1.18 at 4.5 kW, on 26.32 pence per kWh. That is the Ofgem Direct Debit unit rate for 1 October to 31 December 2026 in England, Scotland and Wales, before the standing charge. Northern Ireland is outside that cap. A thermostat saves money only in the minutes when the elements are off. A business tariff can be different from this domestic unit rate.
