Tefal indoor grill buying guide

Updated: 16 October 2026

You have a Tefal page open on amazon.co.uk and the title only says tabletop grill. A Tefal indoor grill buying guide has to separate four mechanisms first, because a sensor lid, a manual contact plate, an open table and a plancha do not share a footprint or a way of telling you the meat is done. The [Tefal tabletop grill comparison](/hub/portable-grills/tefal-tabletop-grill) holds the eight shelf prices and star lines. The Products Compared editorial team read the listing fields stored for this category on 16 October 2026, and Tefal’s UK grill pages. Nothing here was cooked in a lab. Four machines under one name

Tefal’s UK grills hub splits automatic sensor models from manual grilling. The sensor group is the OptiGrill family: a thickness sensor, named programmes, and colour steps from rare to well-done. The manual contact grill is the SuperGrill 3-in-1 XL, with a closed plate, a 180° opening, and an oven position. The EasyGrill BG90C814 is an open plate with an on/off switch. The Giant Plancha CB631D10 is a flat plate with five thermostat settings. A colour for steak puts you on an OptiGrill. An open plate puts you on the OptiGrill vs SuperGrill page. A “serves 8” line does not name the machine. The XL file also prints about 650 cm² beside an 800 cm shop line.

Plate size, programmes, and the cupboard

On file the OptiGrill+ XL GC722D40 is 2,180 W and 5.2 kg at £129.99. Its area field says 800 cm² and special features say about 650 cm². The smaller OptiGrill+ keeps one area figure of 600 cm², but the shelf price is £155.55, above the XL. The SuperGrill prints 800 cm² in the bullets, at £114.99, and the shop page states 1,600 cm² open. The plancha lists no area. OptiGrill and SuperGrill bullets call the plates removable. The Inicio and the plancha do not. The wash is on the cleaning page.

What has to be true before it is plugged in

A UK 3-pin plug has to be on the appliance before it comes indoors. Electrical Safety First’s portable-grill note asks you to confirm that plug before any indoor use. A continental two-pin lead on a 2,000 W grill is a buying problem. The OptiGrill+ XL listing says indoor use. The EasyGrill’s recommended-use field says Outdoor. Electric does not rewrite that field. The OptiGrill One reports a UK plug, German buttons, and two supply trips.

Which type to take to the comparison

Take one type back to the comparison, and leave the badge on that page. A doneness colour, if you will wash the ridges, points to the OptiGrill+ XL. A plate that opens, if you will watch the food, points to the SuperGrill at £114.99, hinge notes included. The EasyGrill at £57.10 is the cheapest open plate only after you accept the outdoor line. The plancha at £91.49 is five heat settings with no area figure. Skip the OptiGrill One if you need an English panel. Skip the Inicio if you need plates that unclip. The best Tefal tabletop grill page names the top pick and the best value. The XL shop page showed £224.99 against the file price.

Common questions

Is a health grill the same as a contact grill?
On Tefal’s UK pages, health grill is the automatic OptiGrill, and contact grill is the closed position of a manual machine such as the SuperGrill. Both press food between hot plates. Only the OptiGrill listings here print a thickness sensor and colour steps. The SuperGrill uses a dial and three positions, with no doneness beep. An EasyGrill or a plancha is an open plate, so neither name fits.
Do I need programmes if I mostly make panini?
Programmes matter when you want a doneness colour. For a pressed sandwich, the Inicio at £73.79 has one heat setting and a drip tray the listing calls removable. The plates stay fixed in the review text, and one UK-marked review says the plug cover came off. A nine-programme OptiGrill is extra machinery for panini.
Will an XL plate fit a flat kitchen?
The SuperGrill body on file is 37.8 x 43.7 x 17.5 cm. The OptiGrill+ XL is 5.2 kg, with area lines of 800 cm² and about 650 cm². Measure the worktop, including the cord, before you treat “6–8 people” as a size. The OptiGrill One is the smaller sensor outline, and reviews report a German panel. A narrow flat should leave both XL rows.
Can the EasyGrill live indoors because it is electric?
The EasyGrill BG90C814 is 2,300 W at £57.10, and its recommended-use field says Outdoor. A water tray and an on/off switch do not rewrite that field into an indoor health grill. For a flat, shortlist a listing that says indoor, and confirm a UK 3-pin plug. That plug check is what Electrical Safety First puts before indoor use.
What is a plancha doing in this comparison?
The Giant Plancha CB631D10 is an open electric plate at £91.49, 2,300 W and 3.2 kg, with five thermostat settings and no sensor. The listing gives no area and does not say the plate lifts. It belongs on the shortlist only if you want that open thermostat plate.
Why do two pages show different areas for the same grill?
The OptiGrill+ XL file prints 800 cm² in one field and about 650 cm² in special features. The shop page says 800 cm. The SuperGrill shop page says 800 cm² closed and 1,600 cm² open, which are two positions. Quote each figure with its source. Averaging 800 and 1,600, or 800 and 650, would invent a size nobody measured.
