Swimming pool paint UK buying guide

Updated: 16.10.2026

You are looking at an empty concrete pool and a basket of blue tins, and swimming pool paint UK on amazon.co.uk still mixes immersion coatings with masonry colour, dye, and garage-floor epoxy. This page is the order of decisions: shell, old film, then the litres two coats will use. The [swimming pool paint comparison](/hub/pool-care/swimming-pool-paint) holds the five prices captured on 16 October 2026. The Products Compared editorial team set those listings beside SPATA’s factsheet and Coo-Var’s area method. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What counts as swimming pool paint

Swimming pool paint here means a coating sold for pool water on cement or concrete. SPATA’s factsheet keeps cementitious masonry paint on exterior walls and off the shell. A shade called swimming-pool blue is a colour, not an immersion rating. Five listings survived that filter. Titan states cement or concrete, a yield, and a wait before filling. Quimicamp puts chlorinated rubber in the title and then goes quiet. Mollor and EPODEX name concrete. CTX-141 Branca is a white title with almost no method. If another tin cannot say pool water and a mineral shell, leave it.

Shell first, then the old coating

SPATA limit this paint to concrete that is already watertight. The film does not make a leaking shell hold water. A vinyl liner, including many above-ground sheets, is the waterproofing, so a cement tin is the wrong product. If you are unsure which shell you own, settle it on paint for a concrete swimming pool before you open a tin. New render and screed need time. SPATA say at least 28 days. TA Paints say new concrete should wait at least three months. Keep both figures on the source that printed them. After the shell has held water, stay in the family already on the wall. An unknown film means strip, or call someone.

Litres from the pool, not from the title

Pack size only makes sense after the area. Add the floor (length times width), the long walls (twice length times depth), and the short walls (twice width times depth). Coo-Var publish that sum, and their 14 m² per litre stays on their product. A 6 m by 3 m pool at 1.2 m average depth is about 39.6 m². Steps and a hopper add faces this rectangle misses. Titan’s bullets say 9–11.5 m² per litre. At the low end, 39.6 m² needs about 8.8 litres for two coats, so one 4 litre tin is not this pool. Quimicamp and CTX have no coverage. The refill sequence is on how to paint a swimming pool.

What the five prices do and do not tell you

About £49 is the lowest shelf price, on Quimicamp, model string Branco / 5 L, 5 kg. Coverage and cure are missing, so that best-value line is cash outlay, not a cost per square metre. Titan at about £51.15 is the top pick because it states a yield and a fill after 7 or 8 days. The colour field says multicoloured while the title says matte blue. CTX at about £80.25 shows neither coverage nor cure. Mollor at about £89.99 states about 320 sq ft per coat on a smooth base, with a 5.0 from six United States reviews. EPODEX at about £84.75 is the small black 2 kg kit, and a 6-hour cell is not permission to fill the same day.

Which tin follows which decision

If the shell is sound concrete and the old film is water-based, start with the listing that prints a yield and a fill wait. If you already use chlorinated rubber and can get a data sheet, the lowest shelf price is the white tin. If the area is small and jet black, the two-pack kit is a different job. If the shell leaks, or it is a liner, do not buy a tin as the repair.

Common questions

Can I paint a liner or fibreglass with a normal tin?
A normal tin here is aimed at concrete. SPATA say paint is unsuitable for liners, and a one-piece pool has adhesion problems. Fibreglass, if it is painted at all, is a specialist conversation, with epoxy the route they describe as more likely after you have asked. Acrylic labelled for cement is the wrong default on GRP.
How do I choose acrylic, rubber, or a two-pack?
Match the family already on a sound concrete shell. Titan and Mollor are the water-based acrylic listings. Quimicamp’s title names chlorinated rubber and then stops. No kept tin is labelled epoxy. EPODEX is a 2K polyurethane, its own system. If the old film is unknown, do not overcoat it.
How do I turn length, width, and depth into litres?
Add the floor, both long walls, and both short walls, using Coo-Var’s sum. Divide by the spreading rate on the tin you might buy, then multiply by two coats. Their 14 m² per litre stays on their product. A 6 m by 3 m by 1.2 m shell at Titan’s low yield needs more than one 4 litre tin. Quimicamp and CTX have no yield to calculate.
Why is about £49 not the best value per square metre?
Quimicamp is the lowest price here, and the capture has no square metres per litre. You cannot compare it with Titan’s 9–11.5 m² per litre or with EPODEX’s about 9 m² from 2 kg at two coats. A cheaper tin that forces a guess at thickness can cost more once the pool is open. Best value here means shelf price, with that gap stated.
What do I still have to read on the tin?
Read the substrate, any thinner, the recoat gap, and the days before filling. Titan’s bullets say 7 or 8 days. Coo-Var’s own guide says 14 days for their paint. The VOC in Paints Regulations 2012 require a label, and this comparison did not audit any tin. The label in your hand is the instruction for that batch.
