Pool hose buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are replacing a hose on an above-ground pool, and the amazon.co.uk results treat a short filter spare, a spiral vacuum hose, and a flat drain pipe as if they were one product. A pool hose buying guide starts with the job in front of you. Bore and length come next, then whatever the box actually contains. Stars come last. The nine listings, checked on 19 October 2026, sit on the [pool hose comparison](/hub/pool-care/pool-hose). There was no lab test. Three jobs a pool hose can do

A filter hose moves water between the pool port and the pump while the pool is in use. In this set that is usually corrugated plastic or polyethylene, often 150 cm, sometimes a pair. Bestway 58369 is one 3.00 m hose stated as 32 mm. Intex 29060 is 38 mm by 150 cm, with a 2 inch internal thread, and a bullet that mentions fresh and salt water. A vacuum hose has to stay round while the pump sucks. The only spiral listing is Amazon Basics, 9.1 m, with a swivel cuff and a bullet bore of 3.8 cm. You fill it with water first. The head is not in the box. A UK review of the QilaoBanboss pair, about £9.99, says suction collapses that pipe if you hoover with it. A discharge hose is for emptying or sand-filter waste. Zephanor and TAIANJI are both 10 m lay-flat hoses with a claimed 32 mm bore and two clips. Zephanor has no star line and is listed at 103 g. TAIANJI is about £13.99, listed at 1.5 kg, and UK reviews say a fold can stop the flow. A long hose does not decide where the water may go.

Bore, end, and length

Measure the tail before you read a title. Here, 32 mm is the nominal 1.25 inch bore and 38 mm is the nominal 1.5 inch bore. Both are inside diameters. An outside-diameter field is a different number, and on one pair the two figures disagree. Intex's support page maps Intex pools and pumps, with a split around 488 cm and with exceptions. It is not a rule for every Bestway. That map is the 32 mm vs 38 mm pool hose page. The end has to match too. Pairs are often push-fit and expect a clamp. Intex 29060 is a 2 inch internal thread and does not list a clip. Automated Environmental Systems separates Intex push-fit, Bestway push-fit, and threaded unions, and says push-fit tails need hose clips. Intex does not supply adapters for other manufacturers. 150 cm is a kit figure, not the old run. The other lengths here are Bestway's 3.00 m, the 9.1 m vacuum hose, and the 10 m lay-flat hoses.

Clips, stiffness, and the boxes in this set

Count clips against joints. QilaoBanboss, Qicveqic, Uryxery, and Ousinby claim four clamps, one for each end of each hose. Qicveqic and Uryxery name a screwdriver and pliers. The two 10 m hoses include two hand-tightened clips. Bestway's contents line is the hose only. The seating sequence is on how to connect a pool hose. A corrugated wall can pinch shut under suction, which is why the QilaoBanboss pair can be a filter spare and a bad vacuum hose. A lay-flat hose can close at a sharp bend: two TAIANJI reviews say a fold or a 90 degree drop stopped the water. UK reviews call the Amazon Basics spiral crush-resistant. Price is the last sort, after the tail matches.

What to ignore until those are settled

Stars do not encode the cuff. Intex 29060 is 4.6 from 3,324 reviews and remains a 1.5 m, 38 mm threaded spare. Qicveqic is 5.0 from three reviews, and the listing weight is 420 g against a bullet of 370 g. Zephanor has no star line. Ousinby is 4.3 from 149 reviews, with a title that says 32 mm and an outside-diameter field that says 38 mm. If the hose will not start on the tail, that is a size problem, not a tighter jubilee clip. The comparison's top pick and best value follow evidence and price for a stated job.

Common questions

Do I need a filter hose, a vacuum hose, or a flat drain hose?
Match the hose to the job. A filter hose circulates between the pool and the pump, often around 150 cm, or 3 m on Bestway 58369. A vacuum hose has to stay round under suction. In this set that is the spiral Amazon Basics hose. A lay-flat hose is for emptying or backwash, and only on a route that stays open. One listing does not do all three.
Is 1.5 m enough between the pool and the pump?
Only if the old run was about 150 cm and the pump can stay that close. UK reviews on more than one short pair say the new hoses were shorter than the pipe they replaced. Bestway's listing is 3.00 m, and one review used that length to sit the pump further out. Measure the gap before you treat a kit length as the old length.
Why do some boxes include four clips and the Bestway box include none?
The pairs are two push-fit hoses, so four clamps cover both ends of both. Bestway 58369's contents line is one hose and no clip, and a UK review wanted one. The Intex 29060 contents field lists nothing extra because that end is a 2 inch thread. Count the joints, then count what the box actually includes.
Does a higher star rating mean it fits my pool?
No. Intex 29060 is 4.6 from 3,324 reviews and it is still a 38 mm by 150 cm threaded spare. A 5.0 from three reviews is a smaller file, not a measurement of your tail. Zephanor has no star line on the listing. Fit is the bore, the end, and the length. The stars are the amazon.co.uk average after that.
What should I measure before I order?
Measure the tail the cuff must meet, and note whether it is a push-fit or a thread. Then measure the run in metres. For a push-fit, 32 mm and 38 mm are nominal inside diameters, and an outside-diameter field can be a different number. If the old hose is gone, measure the rigid port rather than the gap you hope the hose will stretch across.
