Active oxygen pool treatment

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a garden pool, the chlorine smell is why you are looking, and amazon.co.uk has put active oxygen on sachets, tablets, a 1 litre bottle, and shock that still expects chlorine in the water. Active oxygen pool treatment, on this page, means a product that is itself the weekly care. These listings were sorted on 19 October 2026 from the amazon.co.uk pages, Bayrol’s Soft & Easy page, and UK shop notes. This was not a lab test. Prices sit on the [active oxygen pool comparison](/hub/pool-care/active-oxygen-pool). A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What active oxygen means in a UK pool shop

Those two words cover more than one chemical. PoolStore describes Bayrol Soft & Easy as a persulphate with a quat algaecide in the weekly system, and non-chlorine shock as that oxidiser used only beside a sanitiser you already dose. Hydrogen peroxide, sometimes with silver, is a liquid you pour. The shop name does not tell you which one you are holding. Lighthouse Pools also lists liquid Bayrosoft on a dosing unit. That doser is not one of the five listings kept here. A title that says oxygen can still be a shock tub.

The weekly sachet, the tablets, and the poured liquid

The sachet is the complete weekly box. Bayrol describes a double pouch: oxidiser in one chamber, algae prevention and clarification in the other. In this set that is the 4.48 kg listing for up to 20 m³ at £81.33, and two 5.04 kg listings for up to 30 m³, at £82.50 and £91.50. None of those Amazon files names persulphate or prints a gram dose. You buy the volume claim and the pre-dosed bags, then follow Bayrol for the pouch count and the test. The tablet tub is a different purchase. Relax oxygen tablets, 5 kg at £116.27, say to use them with Micro-Cide and Clear Tabs, which are not in the box. The page prints 9 tablets per 45.5 m³ to start and 5 tablets per 45.5 m³ each week, with no tablet weight and no chemical name. The poured liquid is AquaCare, 1 litre at £13.99. The highlight names stabilised hydrogen peroxide and silver, for pools, hot tubs, and ice baths. No pool volume is printed. A bullet says it breaks down to water and oxygen, which is a breakdown claim, not a dose.

What to leave on the shelf

Non-chlorine shock is potassium peroxymonosulphate sold beside a chlorine or bromine residual. UK Pool Store’s Blue Horizons shock tells you to hold free chlorine at 1–3 mg/L. That job was removed from this comparison, including aBalchemy non-chlorine shock and a 20 kg Zagosa oxy-shock. A hot-tub-only elixir and a garbled listing that mixed a euro price with an empty-chlorine title came out as well. PoolStore says persulphate is weak on algae unless something else is in the system. Soft & Easy puts that second chemical in the other chamber. A shock tub does not. If the water is already green, Bayrol still says a chlorine shock can be used with Soft & Easy. The label in your hand wins. Weekly steps are on how to dose active oxygen.

20 m³, 30 m³, or a small pool

The 4.48 kg listing says up to 20 m³. Both 5.04 kg listings say up to 30 m³. All Swim’s 12 × 420 g line and the Amazon file’s 16 packs are two sources. Do not copy a shop gram weight onto a page that does not print it. A 20 m³ pool is about 20,000 litres. A paddling pool is a few thousand, so the 30 m³ box is the wrong size, and a 1 litre bottle with no printed volume can be wrong as well. Whether to leave chlorine, including smell and a reserve shock, is active oxygen versus chlorine.

Common questions

What is actually in a Soft & Easy pouch?
Bayrol describes a double pouch: oxidiser in one chamber, algae prevention and clarification in the other. PoolStore names a persulphate and a quat. The amazon.co.uk listings say active-oxygen granules and do not print that name or a gram weight per bag. Follow the pouch marked for your pool on Bayrol’s page, and treat a shop’s 280 g or 420 g line as that shop’s figure.
Do I need a second chemical with oxygen tablets?
On the Relax listing, yes. The bullets say to use the 5 kg tablets with Micro-Cide and Clear Tabs, which are not in the tub. The dose is 9 tablets per 45.5 m³ at the start and 5 tablets per 45.5 m³ each week. There is no review text. A Soft & Easy box is the listing that calls itself complete care.
Is a peroxide bottle the same system as the sachets?
AquaCare, at £13.99 for 1 litre, names stabilised hydrogen peroxide and silver and prints no volume. Soft & Easy is a pre-dosed pouch with a stated 20 m³ or 30 m³ and no chemical name on the Amazon page. Bayrol’s liquid Bayrosoft is a third route, because it belongs on a dosing unit, and that unit is not in this Amazon set.
Which pack size, 20 m³ or 30 m³?
Use the 4.48 kg listing, at £81.33, for a pool up to 20 m³. Use a 5.04 kg listing up to 30 m³. The £82.50 page has 4.6 from 317 reviews and says 16 packs. The £91.50 page is 5.0 from two reviews and has no review text. All Swim’s 12 × 420 g count is a shop page. It does not overwrite the 16-packs line.
Can I use this in a hot tub that I let to guests?
A family tub and a holiday let are different duties. AquaCare’s title includes hot tubs, and some UK reviews describe a top-up. East Renfrewshire’s holiday-let guidance says peroxide alone is not the residual they want, and that line is about lets, not your own frame pool. Soft & Easy’s pages state a pool volume. For a let, follow the local rule and the label.
