Wooden trellis buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a fence, a wall, or a pot in mind, and every result is labelled a wooden trellis. In this amazon.co.uk set, captured on 15 October 2026, that word covers a 30 cm expanding strip, a taller panel, a freestanding screen at £59.99, and an indoor stake. Prices run from £7.14 to £59.99. This wooden trellis buying guide asks you to name the gap first, then read thickness and any treatment claim, and only then look at the stars. The [wood trellis comparison](/hub/plant-accessories/trellis-wood) holds the ASIN table. The Products Compared editorial team used those listings and public UK sources. We did not run a lab test.

Four wooden trellises, not one shelf

A narrow expanding strip is a riveted diamond. When both sides are stated, the long side is about 180–200 cm and the short side is about 30 cm. Stretch it wider and the height drops, so 1.8 x 0.3 m is a low strip, not a panel 1.8 m high. In this set that shape is Gardman, the KANTA three-pack, LATERN, XIANTIAN, and Toyosport. The Gardman file states only 1.8 x 0.3 m. The taller title is the kanta two-pack, 6 ft x 2 ft, with 5 mm strips. Both dimensions at the same stretch are unproven, so measure the opened panel. Freestanding screens are the three £59.99 pairs. Indoor stakes are Gosknor and RAWILL. Bamworld prints no usable size. Houseplants are on wooden trellis for pots.

What the amazon.co.uk prices in this set actually buy

Entry, about £7 to £13, buys one narrow strip or a thin multi-pack. Gardman is £7.14 for one 1.8 x 0.3 m panel, with an FSC line and 4.4 from 1,707 reviews. The kanta two-pack is £10.49. Bamworld is £12.34 and still has no centimetre size. These are shelf prices from 15 October 2026, and they can move. The middle band, about £14 to £20, is KANTA’s three-pack at £13.99, XIANTIAN at £14.44 open to 200 x 30 cm, LATERN at £14.99, Toyosport at £19.99, and the two indoor sets at £19.99. Screens sit at £59.99. A timber-yard framed panel, such as W. Burton’s pressure-treated diamond about 183 cm wide, is a different channel. Tates of Sussex lists riveted hardwood at 180 x 45 cm with 22 x 8 mm laths.

Thickness, rivets, and the words on the label

The kanta strips are 5 mm. XIANTIAN and Toyosport state 0.7 cm. A 5 mm slat is a light lattice, not a merchant lath at 22 x 8 mm. UK reviews on the thin packs say the wood splits if you nail it without a pilot hole. Aluminium rivets on the KANTA three-pack and on LATERN hold the diamond together. A rivet does not add a frame. Gardman’s FSC line is a sourcing mark. Use Class 3, specified through BS 8417 against BS EN 335, means timber outdoors above ground. Use Class 4 is ground contact. Treated pine, carbonised, and anti-corrosion appear here without a use class. The 10 kg lines on LATERN and Toyosport are seller claims. The best wooden trellis page then picks inside each job.

Which type to shortlist

For a light climber on a fence, shortlist a narrow strip with a stated size. Gardman is the clearest of those strips, and reviewers call it a light support. For more labelled cover near £10, the kanta 6 ft x 2 ft two-pack is the larger title, with outdoor life doubted in UK reviews. A movable screen is the £59.99 pair, and UK reviews on tonchean say it tips unless you weight it. A monstera wants an indoor stake. A stated measurement and a UK review count beat a star sort. Common questions

Is 1.8 x 0.3 m the height?
On these narrow listings, 1.8 m is the long side and 0.3 m is the short side. Open the diamond further along the fence and the height drops. Westland’s tan range includes taller short sides, up to 1.2 m, but those sizes are not the Gardman 07250 file. Measure the gap, then match a listing that prints both sides.
What is the difference between an expanding strip and a framed panel?
An expanding strip is thin slats joined with rivets, and it folds. The amazon packs here are mostly 5 mm or 0.7 cm. A framed panel has a solid edge and, in merchant examples, pressure-treated timber around 183 cm wide or laths around 22 x 8 mm. The framed panel is stiffer, and it is sold in a different shop from this ASIN table.
Is a £60 wooden screen a trellis?
The three £59.99 listings are freestanding carbonised screens with feet, about 70 cm or 80 cm high. UK reviews talk about dogs, temporary cover, splits, and panels that blow over. They are wooden lattice. They are not a strip you screw along the top of a fence.
Does FSC mean it will last outdoors?
FSC, which Gardman states, is a sourcing mark. It does not name Use Class 3 or Use Class 4, and the file does not state a thickness. Outdoor life above ground is a treatment question. Ground contact is stricter. A missing use class stays missing.
Which type is for a monstera in a pot?
An indoor stake. Gosknor and RAWILL are the two indoor listings, both at £19.99. Gosknor prints no usable height. RAWILL lists cedar parts at 0.39 in, with no centimetre height and no United Kingdom review text in the file. A 1.8 m fence strip is the wrong object for compost in a pot.
Why do some packs say heavy duty and 5 mm in the same listing?
The kanta bullets pair a heavy-duty claim with 5 mm strips. UK reviews call that timber flimsy and say it splits when nailed. The millimetre measurement is the fact. The slogan does not change it. A rigid bay is a framed merchant panel, not a stronger adjective on the same thin diamond.
