Ultrasonic pest repeller buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are about to add a plug-in to a kitchen or a bedroom, and the titles mix mice, insects, square metres, and square feet. An ultrasonic pest repeller buying guide has to say what those numbers are not. They are not a UK trial, and a higher figure is not a better unit. The eleven amazon.co.uk rows, with prices in GBP, are on the [ultrasonic pest repeller comparison](/hub/pest-control/ultrasonic-pest-repeller). Use this page as the checklist first. Peter F. read those listings and public UK sources on 16 October 2026. We did not run a laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

An ultrasonic pest repeller in this set is a mains plug that a seller says will make one indoor room less attractive to mice, rats, insects, or spiders. The Advertising Standards Authority has yet to accept an efficacy claim for these devices, and testimonials are not enough. A GOV.UK code on poultry-farm rodents says practical results have generally been disappointing and that verifiable trials are lacking. You are not buying a trap. If scratching and droppings are already established, start with the mice guide. What you can compare is the mode table, whether the seller admits the sound stops at a wall, and whether the plug suits a UK socket. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a plug-in for a domestic socket to be compatible with BS 1363. A two-pin European plug is the wrong object.

Read the mode table before the area

The figure that should change the basket is the mode you will leave on. FunBean’s four-pack, at £24.99, prints a red mode at 10–15 kHz for mice and rats and says not to use it with people or pets indoors, because it is uncomfortable noise. Siyuio names blue for bedrooms and red for an empty house. If the only mouse mode is the one you must switch off while you are home, you do not have a unit you can leave beside the sofa. Dogs and cats are what most titles mean by pets. Hamsters and gerbils are a separate case, on the pets page.

Coverage figures that cannot be ranked

The same page often prints two areas that are not the same quantity. The PR Direct XY-002 title says 500 m² per device and a bullet says 300–500 sq ft, so neither figure can rank it. One REPELIX row says 140 m², a bullet says 80–140 square metres, and a catalogue field says 140 metres. Siyuio and FunBean both print up to 1,600 sq ft and still say one unit per room. Ultrasound reflects and does not bend around corners. Count the rooms whose doors you shut, then match the pack. A six-pack is extra rooms, not extra proof.

Pack size, price, and stars

Shelf prices run from £16.14 to £34.99. VNEED is £16.14, Siyuio is £23.74, FunBean is £24.99, and the two REPELIX PR-025 two-packs are £32.99 and £34.99. VNEED’s catalogue count is 1, while several reviews say four units arrived, so plan from neither figure until the box is open. The two REPELIX rows share a model, a main image, and overlapping reviews. A 4.3 from 2,647 and a 4.4 from 2,664 are not two trials. Named fits are on the best ultrasonic pest repeller page.

When to stop shopping

Stop if the holes are still open and mice or rats are established. Proofing, and a professional where the infestation is real, come before another plug. Stop if the loft might hold bats. The British Pest Control Association and the Bat Conservation Trust both say not to use ultrasonic deterrents in or near a roost, and disturbance can be an offence. Stop if hamsters, gerbils, or similar pets share the room and the listing either warns you or stays silent. Also stop if the plug runs hot, sparks, or will not seat. Seller lines of one to four weeks are a printed timetable.

Common questions

What should you check before you trust the title?
Check the mode you will leave on, whether that band is one people can hear, and whether the seller says one unit per room. Then check a BS 1363 fit and the line on hamsters, not only dogs. The area in the title comes last, because the figures in this set contradict each other and are not a measured clear-out.
Is a higher square-foot number a better unit?
No. Siyuio and FunBean both print up to 1,600 sq ft and still say one plug per room. TruSky prints up to 4,000 sq ft beside a catalogue line of 1,200 feet. A larger slogan does not mean the sound bends around a closed door. Count shut rooms, then choose a pack that matches that count.
What is the difference between a quiet mode and a rodent mode?
On several plugs they are different settings. FunBean’s red mode is 10–15 kHz, and the seller says not to use it indoors with people or pets. Siyuio’s blue mode is the bedroom setting, and red is for an empty house. If you need the unit on while you are in the room, read that split before you buy.
How many units if the doors stay shut?
One per enclosed room you actually want to treat, not one in the hall for the whole floor. Ultrasound does not pass usefully through walls. A four-pack or a six-pack covers several rooms. It is not a stronger effect inside a single closed kitchen.
Why are there two REPELIX PR-025 listings?
Both are model PR-025, a pack of two, with the same main image and overlapping review text. One is £32.99, listed at 70 g. The other is £34.99, listed at 200 g, with a printed size of 1.02 cm a side that cannot be the plug. Do not add the 2,647 and 2,664 ratings and call them two trials.
