Ultrasonic or scent marten repellent

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are looking at a box with a light and a pouch or a spray, and both pages say the animal will leave. An ultrasonic or scent marten repellent is a choice about power and chemistry. Ultrasound is what you can switch on and keep cool. Scent is what you hang or spray and then refresh. The [marten repellent comparison](/hub/pest-control/marten-repellent) prices both in GBP on 19 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. What you are comparing

BMUT MS-500, 500 ml geraniol at £16.00, 4.1 from 385, is the top pick because that file is the largest no-wiring spray. The £5.99 Kunagone single, 3.8 from 108, is the best value pouch. The £24.99 four-pouch set names citronella and its UK reviews are about badgers. HSE treats a chemical repellent as a biocide. The rules are on the marten repellent buying guide. Ultrasound runs from £8.99 to £24.26. Technaxx at £9.98 prints 12–24 kHz. HONGXIAN at £18.90 is 4.8 from 15, with UK mouse comments and a solar field against USB, AA or vehicle-power bullets.

What the evidence does not show

Neither side has a UK trial of these ASINs. The ASA's rule is that electronic scarers need proper evidence, and customer stories are not that evidence. Older work on other devices is not a measurement of Technaxx or Kunagone. Vsshe's only UK comment says rats then chewed its wires. Kunagone reviews, not marked United Kingdom, include a pouch chewed or carried off. A 20 m² or 70 m² line is the maker's claim. Choose on power, chemistry and the failure you can live with.

When a pouch or spray is the practical choice

Choose scent when you will not wire a battery and you will recheck the bonnet. The £5.99 pouch is the low price with a review sample, and those reviews describe the bag chewed or carried off. BMUT at £16.00 names geraniol. The repeat interval is unsettled: a few weeks on the bullets, 3 to 4 days in one review. Follow the label. Skip the four-pouch set for a car: the UK text is badgers. A smell does not splice copper. Food and repair are on stop animals chewing car wires.

When a box is the practical choice

Choose a box when you can mount it off the exhaust and the belts, and you accept an unproven sound. Technaxx at £9.98 is the practical listing if you want kilohertz on the page: 12–24 kHz and three ways to power it, on nine reviews. HONGXIAN at £18.90 is the one with UK mouse comments, and you buy the spec conflict with it. Veddelholzer suits a USB socket within 2 m. Vsshe states a driving cut-out, and the UK review is the chew.

Common questions

Which one needs a wire or a USB socket?
Technaxx can use a 12 V cable, 4 AA cells or USB-C, so a wire is optional on that model. Vsshe and the Carpoint/Kemo title are battery-lead boxes. HONGXIAN's bullets include vehicle power and also USB and AA cells, while another field says solar. Veddelholzer needs USB for the whole run, with a 2 m lead and no battery pack in the reviews. The pouches and the BMUT spray need no power. A belt, which is outside this fork, needs none either.
Which one is a chemical product?
The scent rows are the chemical side. BMUT names geraniol. The four-pouch set names citronella. The Kunagone singles describe a natural-enemy scent and do not name an ingredient. HSE's line is that a repellent working by chemistry is a biocidal product, and a purely physical device is not. Ultrasound without a chemical is the physical side. N-111079 on the spray is a code printed on the listing. This file does not show a GB authorisation for it.
Do UK reviews in this set favour one side?
They favour different anecdotes, not a winner. HONGXIAN's 15 reviews include UK comments about mice in a car, a shed and a loft. Vsshe's only UK review says rats chewed the device after an early quiet period. The four-pouch UK reviews are badgers that were not deterred. BMUT's 385 reviews have no UK text in this scrape. The ASA would not treat any of those stacks as efficacy evidence. A preference for UK sentences points you at HONGXIAN, with the spec conflict included.
What happens when the pouch is chewed?
On the £5.99 Kunagone row, reviewers say the pouch was chewed in the engine bay or carried off, and some say the animal left. None of those blocks are marked United Kingdom. A chewed pouch is both a failed placement and a possible snack. Replacing one bag on the same clip repeats the offer. The spray avoids a hanging bag and brings a repeat-dosing question instead. If teeth are already on the loom, stop buying scent and book the repair.
Does a stated square-metre figure settle the argument?
No. Technaxx claims 20 m² and Veddelholzer claims 70 m². Both figures are on the listing. Neither is an independent test of that ASIN, and a larger claim is not a larger result. Frequency numbers exist only where the page prints them: 12–24 kHz on Technaxx and 23–44 kHz on Veddelholzer. HONGXIAN, vsshe and the Kemo title do not give kilohertz. Coverage talk does not repair a cut wire.
When is neither the right tool?
When the copper is already chewed, the next step is a garage, not a louder box or a stronger smell. When a loft hole might hold a pine marten, the next step is NatureScot, Natural England or Natural Resources Wales, because blocking a den is unlawful. When the route is a downpipe, the tool is a spike belt on the main comparison, which this page left out on purpose. Ultrasound and scent are optional extras on an intact bay you can recheck.
