How to use marten repellent

Updated: 23 October 2026

You already have a pouch, the BMUT spray, a 12 V or USB box, or a spike belt in mind, and the listing skips heat, polarity and a hole that might still be occupied. This page is how to use marten repellent from this comparison, and where you stop. The [marten repellent comparison](/hub/pest-control/marten-repellent) is the table, in GBP from 19 October 2026. Hang or spray without electrics

A Kunagone-style pouch needs a place off the hot side of the engine. The AROBA singles at £5.86 and £5.99 claim 3 to 6 months. Reviews on the £5.99 row, none marked United Kingdom, include a pouch chewed or carried off. The BMUT MS-500 is a 500 ml geraniol spray at £16.00. Use the jet for a small target and the mist for a wider surface, and keep it off a cut loom. The bullets say a few weeks. One review says every 3 to 4 days. Follow the label on the bottle. N-111079 is not shown here as a GB authorisation.

Power a box in a car or a loft

The Technaxx TX-368 manual says red to positive and black to negative, with the engine off, and do not touch both lugs while it is powered. It also offers 4 AA cells or USB-C, and a restart about 80 seconds after the engine stops. Leads stay off hot and moving parts. Choosing sound or scent is on ultrasonic or scent marten repellent. The vsshe twin, £8.99, says about 120 seconds after you stop, then a shut-down when the vehicle moves. Its only UK review says rats later chewed the unit's wires. Veddelholzer is USB only, with a 2 m lead.

Fit a climb barrier

A spike belt rings a downpipe, a gutter or a trunk. It does not go in an engine bay. ISOTRONIC 84025 is two stainless strips at £17.92. Shape the bands before you tighten them, use extra strips once the circumference passes 50 cm, and fit the end caps. BigKing is £16.99, and its UK reviews are about cats. If you cannot tie the belt with both feet secure, leave it for a roofer.

When you stop

Stop when the copper is already open, when you cannot tell the battery posts apart, or when the animal in the roof might be a pine marten. Chewed insulation, a no-start or a warning light is a garage job. If you cannot fuse a 12 V lead, leave the connectors in the packet. Food, a weekly look and insurance are on stop animals chewing car wires. Before you seal a loft hole, contact NatureScot, Natural England or Natural Resources Wales.

Common questions

How many pouches go in an engine bay?
The Kunagone bullets say one pouch as prevention, and two or three if an animal is already visiting. A loft is one or two, or four or five in the listing's active case. The claimed life is 3 to 6 months. Reviews on the £5.99 row, not marked United Kingdom, include pouches chewed or carried off. The four-pack is a citronella product with badger comments.
How do I connect the Technaxx or the vsshe leads?
On the Technaxx TX-368 manual, red goes to positive and black to negative, with the engine off, and you do not touch both lugs while it is powered. The same manual offers 4 AA cells or USB-C, and a restart about 80 seconds after the engine stops. Vsshe bullets use the same colours, with about 120 seconds after you park. Use each figure on its own product. If you cannot fuse the lead, stop.
Where must the box not be tied?
Keep it off the exhaust, the turbo, the belts and any loom that already shows chew marks. The Technaxx manual says leads stay off hot and moving parts, and you do not install with the engine running. A US under-bonnet sheet for a different product says the unit is not waterproof and should not be fixed to the engine. Use that as a limit: a cool, dry bracket, speaker aimed at the bay, not a zip-tie on the block. Veddelholzer still needs a USB socket within 2 m.
How often is the spray repeated?
BMUT's bullets say repeat after a few weeks. One review in the file says every 3 to 4 days or the animal returns. Those two clocks are both in the sources for this row, and they do not agree. The label on the bottle you receive is the instruction to follow, because HSE expects a chemical product to be used as labelled. The 500 ml size is the pack. It is not a promise that one bottle covers a season.
How do I shape a spike belt?
Shape the ISOTRONIC bands to the pipe before you pull the ties tight. A UK reviewer says assembly is fiddly if you try to form them in place. Use extra strips once the circumference passes 50 cm, and fit the end caps the listing includes. BigKing's box is 20 wires, 40 caps and 10 ties, with two belts suggested per tree. Caps that slip are already a complaint. Check them after the first windy week, from a safe standing place.
When do I stop and call a garage or NatureScot?
Call a garage for bare copper, a no-start, a warning light, or a battery lead you cannot fuse with the engine off. Call NatureScot if you are in Scotland and a loft hole might be a pine marten den. In England that call is Natural England, and in Wales it is Natural Resources Wales. Blocking the hole is the offence the Schedule 5 guidance is written to prevent. A height you cannot work at is a roofer, not a longer cable tie.
