Marten deterrent buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are in a British driveway with chewed insulation, or you have heard movement above a ceiling, and the amazon.co.uk results are all labelled a marten deterrent. This marten deterrent buying guide is the order of decisions before a basket: which animal, which place, which power line that listing prints, and which price band among nine products. The [marten deterrent comparison](/hub/pest-control/marten-deterrent) holds the grid. Shelf prices in this capture run from £5.86 to £45.28. The Products Compared editorial team read those listings on 21 October 2026 and did not run a laboratory trial. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

The shared label covers four jobs. BMUT MS-500 is a 500 ml water-based geraniol spray at £16.00, with a mist and a jet, rated 4.1 from 385 reviews. Kunagone is one AROBA scent pouch at £5.86, with no customer-review line and no named ingredient. Six listings are ultrasonic boxes with a flash, and they do not share a supply or a frequency. ISOTRONIC 84025 is two V2A stainless spike strips at £17.92, rated 4.0 from 47 reviews, for a downpipe, gutter or tree. A spray does not climb a gutter, and a spike strip does not sit on a loom. If you already know the choice is smell or sound, the ultrasonic or scent marten deterrent page takes that fork. If the noise is in the roof, the animal section matters more than the kilohertz line.

The animal in a British driveway

Britain's marten, on the Mammal Society page, is the pine marten. NatureScot describes Schedule 5 protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981: do not intentionally or recklessly kill, injure or take a pine marten, damage or block a den, or disturb an animal in a den, aside from the dwelling-house case NatureScot states. A car engine bay is not that case. RAC Drive, on 23 October 2025, reported rodent-related vehicle claims up 28% in 2024. That note is about rats and mice. Stone-marten visits to cars in the Herr study are a Luxembourg finding, not a UK census, so a German Marder title is seller wording. A nibbled cable can be in scope once a pine marten is ruled out. The pine marten loft deterrent page holds the licensing desks.

Power, cover and the lines that disagree

Read the supply on the ASIN in your hand. ISOTRONIC 78580 at £32.45 states four AA cells or a car battery, and its bullets do not mention a vibration sensor. Its feedback block says the unit is not electric and lists the target as mouse. The ISOTRONIC pair at £45.28 does state a sensor: on about 60 seconds after the car stops, off when the engine vibrates, on six AAA cells. Copying that sentence onto the 78580 would be a buying mistake. Technaxx TX-368 at £9.98 states four AA cells or a 12 V or USB-C lead, and no vibration sensor. The £7.99 unit's technical field says solar_powered while the bullets say three AA cells or 12–24 V, and they do not describe a panel. Veddelholzer is USB only. Prefer cells when you cannot name a safe connection.

What the prices in this set can and cannot prove

In this capture prices run from the Kunagone pouch at £5.86 to the sensor pair at £45.28. The middle holds the BMUT spray at £16.00, the belt at £17.92 and the Veddelholzer unit at £24.26, with ISOTRONIC 78580 at £32.45 above them. A price under £10 does not buy a proven expulsion rate. Kunagone has no star line. BMUT prints N-111079 and does not show an HSE number. HSE's biocides guidance treats physical-only devices differently from chemical repellents. Whether geraniol currently holds a Great Britain approval is not stated in our sources. If the loom is already cut, a garage should see the wiring before you hide a box in the bay. When the job is clear, the best marten deterrent page names who each pick is for.

Common questions

Is a marten deterrent the same as a mouse deterrent for car wires?
Titles on these amazon.co.uk listings say marten, and several bullets also name mice, rats or squirrels. RAC Drive's October 2025 note on vehicle damage describes rats and mice. A pine marten is protected. Treat the shop label as a category, then match the product to the place and to the animal you can rule in or out.
Why is the cheapest ultrasonic a poor default?
The £7.99 unit has 3.6 from 13 reviews, an empty brand field, and a technical line that says solar while the bullets say three AA cells or 12–24 V. Reviews say adults hear a beep. Level 2 adds an alarm aimed at dogs, cats and squirrels. A low price is real. An unresolved power story is a reason to keep reading.
Does a German N-number mean the spray is authorised in Britain?
BMUT prints N-111079 and says the spray is made in Germany. The listing does not print an HSE number. HSE regulates chemical repellents as biocidal products and treats purely physical devices differently. This guide does not state whether geraniol is currently approved in Great Britain.
When should you leave this guide because the wires are already cut?
When the loom is already chewed, the next call is a garage. RAC Drive's note on a car left for a week includes warning lights and a look for chewed cables. A frequency comparison does not repair a circuit. Come back to a deterrent only after someone has confirmed the wiring is safe.
What should you skip if the loft might hold a pine marten?
Skip the basket until you have spoken to NatureScot, Natural England, Natural Resources Wales, or the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. A spike belt or a loft sounder can obstruct or disturb a den. Northern Ireland has a separate March-to-August line on DAERA's pages. That line is not the same sentence as the law in England.
