Food moth trap buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have opened a cupboard, watched a small pale moth lift off the flour, and landed on amazon.co.uk where almost every title says killer. What you are comparing is a glue card or folded prism with a sex pheromone, meant to show whether male stored-product moths are still flying. It does not pull larvae out of a packet. The [food moth trap comparison](/hub/pest-control/food-moth-trap) holds the nine saved amazon.co.uk rows, with shelf prices from 19 October 2026. This page is the checks before you pay. What you are buying

A pantry pheromone card is a monitor for males of particular stored-product moths. Females, eggs, and larvae stay in the food until you throw it out and clean. The British Pest Control Association puts an outside bin and a clean ahead of gadgets. Health and Safety Executive guidance lists kill, control, and eliminate as claims a monitoring-only product should not make. None of the nine listings print a GB authorisation number. Indian meal moth larvae can chew paper, cellophane, and polythene. If the damage is holes in wool, read pantry moth or clothes moth trap first.

Five checks on the listing

Prefer a species bullet that names pantry, food, or Indian meal moth, or prints Plodia interpunctella or Ephestia kuehniella. Puciuua says food and clothes and names no pheromone. Hey Nature, Veddelholzer, Super Ninja, and Pest Expert state males. PIC and MothMag do not. Stated life runs from 6–8 weeks on each ENTOEND prism to 12 weeks on Hey Nature, 3 months on Super Ninja, and 90 days on Pest Expert. Dr. Killigan's prints no week count. Open one trap and leave the rest sealed. ENTOEND's 10+ months' supply is six prisms used in sequence. Ignore Is Electric: Yes on PIC. The saved listing is a peel-and-stick card.

Price per trap in this set

Veddelholzer at £9.95 is about £0.99 a card. PIC at £5.99 is about £1.00. Hey Nature at £10.99 is about £1.37. Super Ninja at £5.90 is about £1.48. Dr. Killigan's and Pest Expert are about £2.50. Puciuua's 24-pack at £27.99 is about £1.17 only if you use the cards over time. PIC's 3.9 from 26,321 reviews mixes fast catches with moths that ignore the glue. Hey Nature is 4.3 from 1,096 and states 12 weeks. Stars are not a clearance rate. Best pantry moth traps assigns a job to each strong row.

Who should skip which row

Skip Puciuua if you need a named pheromone. Four reviews at 5.0 talk about a wardrobe. Skip ENTOEND if you want a large review file: 4.3 from 13, with beet armyworm on the bullets. Skip the dearest cards if one cupboard and about £6 is the budget. Skip every row if you have not looked in pet food and bird seed. A food business should use a contractor. If the listing never states lure life, replace the card when the glue is full. Placement sits on how to use pantry moth traps.

Common questions

Do I need a food trap or a clothes trap?
Match the lure to the damage. Webbing, larvae, or moths in flour, cereal, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, pet food, or bird seed point to a food-moth card from this comparison. Holes in wool, fur, or feathers, with larvae in dark fabric, point to a clothes-moth lure. London Moth says those pheromones are not interchangeable. A kitchen card left in a wardrobe is the wrong tool, and the reverse is the same mistake.
How many traps for one kitchen cupboard?
One opened trap in the affected cupboard is enough to start. A UK seller such as Dragonfli talks about one trap per infestation area. A second card in a different cupboard can show whether males are also flying there. Do not peel the whole pack on the first evening. Crowding several fresh lures in one small cupboard wastes the rest of the box.
Are insecticide-free traps safe next to flour?
Insecticide-free on Hey Nature, Veddelholzer, Super Ninja, Dr. Killigan's, ENTOEND, and Pest Expert means the listing does not sell a spray in the card. The glue is still strong. Keep the sticky face off food, skin, children, and pets. Do not set the card on top of an open bag. Larvae in the flour are unaffected by that wording, so bin contaminated packets rather than trusting the label.
Why does the title say killer if only males stick?
Titles in this set often say killer, control, or protection. HSE says a product sold only to monitor should not claim that it kills, controls, or eliminates. The biology of these pheromone cards is male attraction onto glue. Females and larvae stay in the food. Read the species bullet and the males line, and treat the title as marketing until the listing says otherwise.
Does a Latin species name matter on the listing?
It helps you see what the lure claims to target. Super Ninja names Plodia interpunctella and Ephestia kuehniella. Pest Expert names male Plodia interpunctella only. Hey Nature uses common names for Indian meal, Mediterranean flour, tobacco, and almond moths. PIC uses dried fruit, flour, storage, and date moths with no Latin. A Latin line is clearer, though it still does not prove your moth is that species until you match the damage in the food.
