Paint sprayer buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to buy a first sprayer for a garden fence, a spare room, or a set of chairs, and amazon.co.uk has a cup gun near £32 beside a pump near £300. A paint sprayer buying guide matches the coating to a technology, a feed, a UK plug, and a budget you can see on the listing. Watts come last, because a cup turbine and an airless piston are not the same machine. Prices and rating counts for this set are on the [paint sprayer](/hub/painting-supplies/paint-sprayer) comparison. Peter F. used amazon.co.uk listings from 19 October 2026 and public UK guidance, with no lab spray test, and a qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Match the machine to the coating

HVLP cup guns suit stain, varnish, and small furniture once you can thin them. A cup near £32 is a fair buy for a chair or a door, and a poor buy for emulsion that must stay as mixed. Wagner's £60 fence turbine is listed at 8 psi, which will not do Graco's 117 bar. If the tin says do not thin, leave that turbine. Wind and panel size sit on the paint sprayer for fences page. Do not rank a cup's watt print against an airless piston. The fork is on HVLP or airless paint sprayer.

Feed, tip, and how thick the paint is

Cup guns use millimetre nozzles. An airless 517, as Dulux Decorator Centre describes it, is fan width and orifice, not that millimetre hole. ROTTOGOON claims an 80 DIN/s ceiling and had no rating line, so that figure is the seller's cup test. If the sample runs slower through the viscosity cup, it is thicker than the gun is sold to spray. Follow the datasheet, then the cup.

Mains plug, cordless packs, and how long it may run

A UK 3-pin is stated only on DEKO (B0H1MPP7BL) and the NEU MASTER HVLP (B09XMVH397). Graco's reviews disagree, so do not assume the £299 TrueCoat One arrives with a fused UK plug. Electrical Safety First is the household check for a BS 1363 plug, or a conversion plug with a BS 1362 fuse. Cordless guns here are still cups. DEKO warns against more than 20 minutes continuous, and InoKraft's motor can stop on a thermal cut-out.

What the prices in this set are for

On 19 October 2026 the entry cup band on amazon.co.uk was £31.89–£46.99. £60 buys Wagner's fence turbine, a remote pot rather than an airless. At £119.99 the RP8622 title says 3,000 psi and the table says 3,000 kPa. InoKraft at £289.99 and Graco at £299 draw from the tin, and InoKraft's hose is printed as 15.2 m and as 1.8 m. Who should skip which listing is on the best paint sprayer page.

Common questions

Should you buy an HVLP or an airless sprayer for a fence?
Buy Wagner's £60 fence turbine for fence paint, stain, or preservative you can thin and strain. Buy an airless when the tin must stay neat, or the job is a whole exterior rather than a few panels. A cup of 800–1,400 ml empties on a run of panels, and 8 psi is not pump pressure. Wind can undo the gain from a larger pot.
Can a £33 cup gun spray neat emulsion?
No. A cup gun near £33, such as Tilswall at £33.99 or the NEU MASTER 500 W at £31.89, is for coatings the datasheet lets you thin. Neat emulsion is an airless claim in this set, and a higher watt print on a cup does not change the tin. If thinning is forbidden, take a pump whose listing names the coating, and expect a hose and more mist.
Does the listing state a UK 3-pin plug?
DEKO and the NEU MASTER HVLP are the two listings here that state a UK 3-pin. Graco's reviews disagree, so that plug stays unconfirmed. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 calls for a BS 1363 plug or a conversion plug with a BS 1362 fuse. If the photo shows a European plug, sort the fuse before you use the socket in the hall.
Is a bigger watt number a better sprayer?
No. Watts describe that motor, and they do not put an HVLP cup and an airless pump on one scale. DEKO's 1,000 W cup is not ahead of Graco's 117 bar piston, and Wagner's 460 W at 8 psi is not behind because the number is smaller. Match coating and feed first. Use watts only when two cup guns already agree on those.
How large a cup do you need before you are refilling every few minutes?
For a chair, 1,000–1,200 ml is enough, which is Tilswall and the corded NEU MASTER. On a fence, DEKO's 800 ml is a few passes and a refill while the timber is wet. Wagner's 1,400 ml pot delays that stop, and it still is not a whole tin. If you are walking back every few minutes, draw from the can as the Graco TrueCoat One does.
When is a cordless cup worth £99.99 against a £32 corded gun?
It is worth £99.99 when no socket reaches the fence and you still want a cup, not a pump. ToCzernobgol lists two 4.0 Ah packs and about 20–25 minutes a pack, the seller's time, so you still thin and refill. Beside a socket, a corded gun near £32 is the clearer spend. Vighoslyn at £46.99 has no rating line, so the lower price is not proof it is the better gun.
Why ignore a 5.0 from two reviews?
Two reviews cannot stand in for a second tin or a cold morning. DEKO's 5.0 from 2 ratings is a smaller sample than Wagner's 4.5 from 4,784, or the NEU MASTER cup at 4.3 from 1,779. ROTTOGOON and Vighoslyn had no rating line. Prefer the large UK count when you want evidence that buyers received a working sprayer.
