Airless paint sprayer buying guide

Updated: October 2026

Choosing a corded pump for a UK decorating job involves more than accepting the largest PSI number in an Amazon title. This airless paint sprayer buying guide shows you how to match flow, tip, hose, intake and plug to the coating and the room before choosing a brand. Our [airless paint sprayer comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/airless-paint-sprayer) ranks the ten amazon.co.uk listings; this page explains the conflicts behind those rows. Start with the work you will actually do, then check whether the specification cells support the headline claims. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are buying

A corded airless pump draws coating from a container and forces it through a small tip under pressure. It is for walls, ceilings, fences and similar broad surfaces, not the fine, low-output pattern of an HVLP cup gun. The pump, hose and gun are a larger system than a cordless handheld sprayer: useful across an empty room or a long fence, and cumbersome for one door. The Graco TrueCoat One listing sets up to 12 litres a project and about 120 litres a year. The MaXpray M1 listing describes projects up to roughly 38 litres. If you are still deciding whether the setup suits the job, compare an airless sprayer with a roller.

Flow and the tip the pump can feed

Flow is how much coating the pump can deliver. The tip turns that into a fan, and a larger orifice asks for more material, so the tin’s tip range and the pump’s supported tip both matter. WORKPRO states 1.2 L/min and a reversible tip without naming the orifice. Graco states 0.9 L/min and a Paint Wide tip. The Control Pro 250 M box lists 311 and 517. Do not fit an oversized tip because emulsion is thick. Check the tin, strain where instructed, and use only a tip the manual supports. The guide to walls and ceilings explains why the room and coating still govern the choice.

When the pressure cell disagrees with the title

A headline pressure is useful only when the unit is credible. The Control Pro 250 M title and cell both state 110 bar. Graco states 117 bar. The WORKPRO title gives 200 bar and its cell gives 2,900 psi, the same scale. The NEU MASTER title says up to 3,000 PSI, but the cell says 3,000 kPa, about 30 bar, not 3,000 psi. The MAXXT title says 20.7 MPa and 3,000 PSI, while its cell says 3,000 pascal. Treat both as unresolved listing conflicts, not as proof of the headline pressure. The highest credible figure does not decide the winner. The best airless paint sprayer shortlist applies that to specific models.

Hose, intake and the UK plug

Graco lists 7.5 m, the MaXpray M1 and WORKPRO about 7.6 m, and the Control Pro 250 M 9 m. The Power Painter 90 lists 15 m. The MaXpray M3 bullets describe two 7.6 m hoses, 15.2 m together, yet the hose cell says 1.8 m. Confirm what will arrive. Direct suction from the tin still needs a container deep enough for the pickup. MAXXT describes a grounded EU plug for a Type G adapter. PORIYA states an EU plug at 220–240 V. Neither is a fitted BS 1363 plug.

What this guide will not decide

A specification cannot tell you whether a first unit will prime, or how rigid the hose will feel. The written reviews on the MaXpray M3 and InoKraft NEO repeat the M1 text, including lines that name the M1, so they are not independent evidence for those two listings. Use the main comparison for the ranked rows. If the coating contains isocyanates, is a two-pack, or needs respiratory controls beyond domestic equipment, stop and use a competent professional.

Common questions

What does a 515 or 517 tip mean?
The first digit multiplied by five gives an approximate fan width in centimetres at the specified distance, so both produce a fan around 25 cm wide. The final two digits are the orifice in thousandths of an inch: 0.015 or 0.017 inch. A 517 passes more coating and therefore needs adequate pump flow.
Is higher PSI always better?
No. Pressure must suit the coating, tip and pump design. A credible 110 bar HEA specification can be more useful than a 3,000 PSI title contradicted by its own data cell. Compare atomisation, supported tip size and flow rather than sorting products by the largest headline number.
How long should the hose be?
For a single empty room, the 7.5–9 m hoses common in this basket provide practical reach if the pump can remain safely positioned. A 15 m hose helps on larger jobs but holds more coating and takes longer to flush. Always resolve any conflict between the bullet and specification cell before buying.
Which listings describe an EU plug?
The MAXXT listing describes a grounded EU plug used with a Type G adapter, and the PORIYA listing states an EU plug at 220–240 V. Other listings sometimes leave the plug unspecified. “Corded electric” does not confirm a fitted UK BS 1363 plug.
Must I thin emulsion?
Follow the paint tin and the sprayer manual. A “no pre-thinning” bullet is not permission to ignore the coating maker’s instructions. Use the supported tip, strain where required and change viscosity only within the stated limits.
Why are the M3 and NEO reviews treated cautiously?
Their extracted review text duplicates the MaXpray M1 block and includes wording that names the M1. The displayed star line can be reported as printed, but the copied prose cannot demonstrate how the M3 cart or NEO performs.
When should a decorator take over?
Use a professional where access requires unsafe work at height, the hose or electrical connection is damaged, or the coating demands specialist respiratory controls. Two-pack and isocyanate-containing coatings should not be treated as an ordinary spare-room spray job.
