Albatros safety shoe size chart

Updated: 16 October 2026

You take a UK 9 in everyday trainers, then meet an amazon.co.uk Albatros page sold in EU sizes, sometimes with EU 36 or 44 locked in the title. This Albatros safety shoe size chart shows which centimetre band to use, why the reviews disagree, and why a longer shoe is a poor way to get width. Rankings stay on the [Albatros safety shoes](/hub/occupational-safety/albatros-safety-shoes) comparison. Products Compared did not measure a sample pair. Figures are the brand chart and the reviews in this set, as of 15 October 2026. A purchase through our links can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Read the chart in centimetres, not from memory

The Albatros size chart lists EU, UK, US, and foot length. On the men’s chart, EU 41 is UK 7 and 25.7–26.2 cm. EU 43 is UK 9 and 27.0–27.5 cm. EU 44 is UK 10 and 27.6–28.2 cm. Safety Plus lists UK 7 at EU 41, which matches the chart’s skip of a whole UK size around EU 40. Measure both feet in work socks and use the longer one. A foot of 27.2 cm sits in the EU 43 band. A foot of 27.8 cm has moved into EU 44. If the feet differ, fit the longer one.

What the reviews say, model by model

Treat comments as a reason to check returns, not as a second chart. On the Clifton Low, several Germany-marked reviews say the shoe runs large, including a return of at least one size, while others say their usual size fitted. The Clifton Mid is the clear too-big group: EU 36 in the title, and more than one reviewer saying to drop one or two sizes. Ultratrail Low reviews point both too small and too big, on a title that prints size 46 and no class. Ultimate Impulse complaints are heel rub and a one-day return, not a clean length error.

Do not buy a longer shoe to get width

A wide forefoot is how people buy the wrong length. TUC advice on working feet, which is general guidance and not an Albatros last, is to leave about 1 cm at the longest toe and keep the toes off the cap. Call the 1 cm a rule of thumb. It is not printed on these listings. If the toes touch the cap at the right length, you need another last, not an extra size. Buying EU 44 when you measured 27.2 cm, inside the EU 43 band, because someone said the shoes come up narrow, moves the protection off the toes. Heel rub on day one is not automatically break-in. On the Ultimate Impulse, stop if you have a blister or Achilles pain.

Two listings already name a size

The Clifton Mid title says EU 36, S3, and SRC, at about £68.60. That is a size-36 price. EU 36 is the small end of the Safety Plus Clifton run, which starts at UK 3 / EU 36. A UK 9 buyer is not looking at that price as every length. The Ultimate Impulse title says size 44, S1P, and ESD, at about £51.52. On the chart, EU 44 is UK 10 and 27.6–28.2 cm. A foot of 27.2 cm is still in the EU 43 band, so that titled size is already one step up. The Ultratrail Low title includes size 46, and the Ultratrail mid title includes EU 46, so read the length on the offer you are paying for. When the pair arrives, stand in work socks and check you cannot feel the cap. Then read the class on the tongue.

Common questions

What UK size is Albatros EU 43?
On the men’s chart, EU 43 is UK 9, for 27.0–27.5 cm. EU 41 is UK 7 at 25.7–26.2 cm, and EU 44 is UK 10 at 27.6–28.2 cm. Measure the longer foot and use the band. The chart skips a whole UK size around EU 40, so adding a fixed number to your trainer size is unreliable.
Do Clifton shoes run large?
The Clifton Mid is the strong warning: more than one review says to go one or two sizes down, and the title is EU 36. The Clifton Low is mixed. Several Germany-marked reviews say it is too big, and others say the usual size fitted. Do not copy the Mid’s drop-two-sizes line onto every Clifton name.
Why do Ultratrail Low reviews disagree?
The file has both too small and too big on a listing that prints size 46 and no class. Averaging them into a half size invents a last the chart does not describe. Measure in centimetres and check you can return the pair.
Is the Clifton Mid’s £68.60 the price of every size?
No. The title in this set prints EU 36 at about £68.60. Read that as the size-36 offer. Other lengths exist in the Safety Plus Clifton run. That does not mean this amazon price covers them. Open the size you measured and read the price again.
The heel rubbed on day one. Is that break-in?
On the Ultimate Impulse, heel rub, blisters, a one-day return, and Achilles pain are the pattern, not a clean order to size up. A longer shoe can leave more of the foot outside the cap. Stop if the skin breaks.
What if one foot is longer?
Fit the longer foot. Do not average the two lengths. 27.5 cm is still in the EU 43 band, and 27.6 cm is in the EU 44 band. An insole in the shorter boot must not push the longer toes into the cap. A large or painful difference needs an occupational fitting.
