Nylon or polyurethane pallet truck wheels

Updated: 22 October 2026

Nylon or polyurethane pallet truck wheels is the choice once the floor still stops the truck. Nylon rolls with less effort on clean, hard concrete and is a poor match for debris. Polyurethane is quieter and kinder to a coated floor. Neither is a pneumatic tyre, and neither climbs a step. Our [pallet truck comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/pallet-truck) is the five listings read on 20 October 2026. Peter F. used UK seller guides and Health and Safety Executive notes. These trucks were not rolled on your floor.

Clean hard concrete against a coated floor

On clean, hard concrete, nylon is the lower-effort wheel. AJ Products UK pairs it with heavy loads on hard floors. COZYBRITE says nylon has lower rolling resistance than polyurethane on smooth, flat surfaces, and it states a 20 cm steer wheel. A coated or shop floor is the polyurethane case. AJ pairs it with quieter running. London Pallet Trucks pairs it with coated floors, ramps, and less noise. It does not raise a 500 kg rating to 2,500 kg, and none of these five listings states a brake. Choose for the worst stretch of the route. AJ says rubber is for grip and not for heavy loads. A title that says polyurethane and rubber is not a rubber specification. The buying order is the pallet truck buying guide.

Debris, and why the shops do not agree

AJ points polyurethane at sawdust or grit, and calls nylon noisy on uneven floors. That is the line used here. It is not a test of these five listings. London Pallet Trucks pairs nylon with wet yards and grit, and keeps polyurethane for coated floors and noise. American caster pages that put nylon on rough debris do not override that AJ note. If the floor is gritty, ask the seller which wheel they mean. COZYBRITE talks about smooth, flat surfaces. The other nylon listing says hard, even surfaces. Believe the smooth case the listing actually prints.

When neither wheel is the answer

HSE case COH06 found a standard pump truck hard to push on uneven floors. The recorded fix is pneumatic tyres, not a swap from nylon to polyurethane. Broken concrete, mud, or a rough yard is outside this choice. An internal step rules the truck out. The stop line is how to use a pallet truck. The HSE pushing tool can underestimate risk for small wheels on debris and slight gradients. If people cannot start the load, the compound is not the first fix.

What the five listings print

COZYBRITE states nylon, a 20 cm steer wheel, and lower rolling resistance on smooth, flat surfaces. The Modern Group narrow-fork truck states nylon and four wheels for hard, even surfaces. A seal line about dirt is not a grit test. The measured mini says solid and easy glide, and does not name nylon or polyurethane. Solid is not a material. The scale listing states no wheel. The 15 t title says polyurethane and also rubber. Use nylon on a clean hard floor. Use polyurethane on a coated floor, and ask if the yard is gritty. Use neither to cross a step.

Common questions

Which wheel for smooth concrete?
Nylon. AJ pairs it with hard floors and low rolling resistance, and COZYBRITE says it rolls more easily than polyurethane on smooth, flat surfaces. That assumes the floor is clean.
Which wheel for a coated or shop floor?
Polyurethane. UK notes pair it with coated floors, quieter running, and better grip, including ramps at London Pallet Trucks. It does not raise the stated load or add a brake.
What if the yard is uneven or there is a step?
Neither wheel fixes it. HSE's COH06 case used pneumatic tyres on uneven ground, and an internal step rules a standard pump truck out.
Why do some UK shops say nylon is fine on grit?
London Pallet Trucks pairs nylon with wet yards and grit. AJ puts sawdust or grit on the polyurethane side. These listings talk about smooth or hard, even surfaces.
Does a solid wheel mean nylon or polyurethane?
No. The measured mini says solid and easy glide and does not name the material. Solid only means it is not pneumatic.
Will a wheel change fix a truck that is hard to push on a rough floor?
Not on the uneven site in the HSE note, and not where there is a step. That case needed pneumatic tyres. Look at the route if the truck is already a struggle.
