Pallet truck buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already have a pallet and a floor, and the first amazon.co.uk title you see is a kilogram figure. A pallet truck buying guide starts with the opening, then fork length and lowered height, then the load, then the wheels, and only then the lever and any scale line. Our [pallet truck comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/pallet-truck) is the five-row table, with prices read on 20 October 2026. Peter F. compared those listings with public UK sources. It is not a workshop test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the pallet, not the kilogram figure

The width that matters is the width across the outside of both forks, not one blade and not the number in the title. A UK pallet of the GKN or CHEP type is about 1,200 mm by 1,000 mm. AJ Products UK pairs it with forks about 680 mm across, and Toyota Material Handling UK uses about 685 mm. A euro pallet is about 1,200 mm by 800 mm, with forks nearer 520 mm to 540 mm. One truck for both is that narrower cluster, because a wide UK fork does not enter a euro pallet from the 800 mm side. The clusters are on pallet truck fork size. 2,500 kg is the wrong first filter. COZYBRITE states 550 mm by 1,200 mm and claims UK and euro pallets at that size. The measured mini states 380 mm by 800 mm. One Modern Group row says narrow and euro and prints no width. The scale title's 56 cm is not defined, and the £287.99 title prints no fork size.

Length, lowered height, and the load you will actually move

UK size guides repeat about 1,150 mm for a 1,200 mm pallet. COZYBRITE states 1,200 mm, so look past the tips. The measured mini states 800 mm, a short truck for a short pallet. Lowered height is the fork height before you pump. The forks have to go under the deck. LiftMate uses about 85 mm as a common figure, and about 75 mm for a lower pallet. COZYBRITE starts at 8 cm (80 mm). The measured mini starts at 60 mm. The other three listings do not state a lowered height. COZYBRITE states 2,500 kg. The scale title states 2,000 kg. Both minis state 500 kg, which is the wrong machine for a full pallet of stock. A title that says 15 t, with a bullet of 33,000 pounds and no fork size, is not a capacity. Do not average those lines.

Floor, then the lever and the scale line

Nylon rolls with less effort on clean, hard concrete and is a poor choice over debris. Polyurethane is quieter and kinder to a coated floor. Neither replaces pneumatic tyres, and the Health and Safety Executive's construction note says a standard pump truck will not cope with an internal step. COZYBRITE names nylon and a 20 cm steer wheel. The narrow mini names nylon for hard, even surfaces. The measured mini says solid and does not name the material. The 15 t title says polyurethane and also rubber. Nylon or polyurethane pallet truck wheels is that choice. Only COZYBRITE names raise, neutral, and lower, and it says the handle needs customer assembly. The £613.89 scale row does not state accuracy, division, or power. None of these five listings states a travel brake.

What still applies at work

HSE lists simple pallet trucks, which only raise the load just clear of the ground, as outside LOLER. PUWER still applies at work: suitable, maintained, inspected where wear could become dangerous, and used by people who have been instructed. COZYBRITE states 8 cm to 19 cm. The measured mini states 60 mm to 170 mm. Both tops are under 300 mm. L113's 2018 amendment names high-lift trucks that can raise the forks above 300 mm. Two listings print no lift. If the truck is work equipment and you cannot tell, ask before you buy. BS EN 1757-2:2001 is superseded by BS EN ISO 3691-5.

Common questions

What should I decide before the price?
Whether the forks enter your pallet, whether they are long enough and low enough, whether one load figure matches that pallet, then whether the wheel matches the floor. The lowest row here that still prints forks, load, and lift is £269.99. The £287.99 title prints no fork size.
Will one truck fit a UK pallet and a euro pallet?
It can, if the width across the forks is about 520 mm to 540 mm and you have checked the opening you use. A fork near 680 mm to 685 mm does not enter a euro pallet from the 800 mm side. A UK and euro claim at 550 mm has not proved that fit.
Is 2,500 kg enough as a buying filter?
No. It says nothing about the opening. The minis are 500 kg, and a 15 t title with no forks is not a larger 2,500 kg truck. If the title and a bullet disagree, you do not have one figure.
What is a lowered height, and why does it matter?
It is the fork height before you pump. If it is above the gap under the pallet, the forks will not enter. A UK note uses about 85 mm, and about 75 mm for a lower pallet. Here, 8 cm and 60 mm are the only starting heights printed.
Does a simple pump truck need a LOLER certificate?
Not by default. HSE treats a simple pallet truck as outside LOLER. PUWER still applies at work. A lift above 300 mm is the high-lift case in L113. Two listings print no lift. A CE line is not a certificate this research checked.
When is a mini truck the wrong machine?
When the pallet is a full UK or euro deck, or the load is a warehouse pallet. The measured mini states 380 mm by 800 mm, 500 kg, and 35 kg. The twin at £299.99 does not print the millimetres.
