Pallet truck fork size

Updated: 22 October 2026

Pallet truck fork size, for a UK buyer, is the width across the outside of both forks, then the length, then how low the forks sit before you pump. A listing may print a blade, a pair, or a number nobody defined. Our [pallet truck comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/pallet-truck) holds the five amazon.co.uk rows read on 20 October 2026. This page matches those figures to the pallet you enter. Peter F. used UK supplier size guides. Nobody here measured your pallet.

Width across the forks, not one blade

The figure that has to enter the pallet is the distance from the outside of one fork to the outside of the other. HallmarkFIX and the other UK size notes mean that outside-to-outside width. The width of one blade does not tell you whether the pair will pass the blocks. If a listing prints one millimetre figure and does not say which way it is measured, you do not yet have a fork size. On a euro pallet, the opening on the 800 mm face is what the forks have to pass. On the COZYBRITE listing, 550 mm by 1,200 mm is the fork pair, and the overall size line is 120 cm by 55 cm. That agreement is useful. It is not a measurement of your pallet. Narrow is not a size. A centimetre figure in a title is not a size until the page says it is the width across the forks.

UK, euro, and the truck people hope will do both

A UK pallet, often GKN, CHEP, or the blue pallet, is about 1,200 mm by 1,000 mm. AJ Products UK pairs it with about 680 mm across the forks. Toyota Material Handling UK uses about 685 mm. A euro pallet is about 1,200 mm by 800 mm. AJ uses about 540 mm. Toyota uses about 520 mm. LiftMate and First Mats put euro near 540 mm and UK near 680 mm. Printers and other short pallets sit nearer 380 mm to 450 mm. A wide UK fork does not enter a euro pallet from the 800 mm side. Toyota says a 685 mm fork will not. The shared truck is about 520 mm to 540 mm, because a euro-width fork can still enter the wider UK opening. The order of the purchase is the pallet truck buying guide.

Length and how low the forks start

Guides repeat about 1,150 mm for a 1,200 mm pallet. A short fork leaves the far end unsupported. A long fork catches the next pallet, a door, or the tail of a van. Lowered height is the fork height before you pump. LiftMate discusses about 85 mm, and about 75 mm for a lower pallet. In this set one truck starts at 8 cm (80 mm) and one at 60 mm. The other three do not state a lowered height. A mini at 380 mm by 800 mm and 500 kg is not the same purchase as a 450 mm printers truck still sold at 2,500 kg. The 800 mm length will not support a 1,200 mm deck.

Where the five listings sit

COZYBRITE states 550 mm by 1,200 mm, starting at 8 cm. 550 mm is close to the euro cluster of 520 mm to 540 mm, not the UK-only cluster of 680 mm to 685 mm. The 1,200 mm length is longer than the 1,150 mm guide, so watch for stick-out. The listing claims UK and euro pallets, including GKN and CHEP. The guides do not use 550 mm as the UK-only width. The Modern Group mini states 380 mm by 800 mm, a 60 mm start, and 500 kg. The second Modern Group listing says narrow and euro and prints no millimetres. The JYBNBBE title prints 56 cm and does not define it as the width across the forks. The £287.99 title prints no fork size. Which row is for a full pallet or a small one stays on the best-pallet-truck page.

Common questions

What is width across the forks?
The distance from the outside edge of one fork to the outside edge of the other. The width of one blade is a different measurement. On COZYBRITE, 550 mm is stated with an overall width of 55 cm.
What width is usual for a UK or CHEP pallet?
About 680 mm to 685 mm across the forks for a pallet of about 1,200 mm by 1,000 mm. AJ, Toyota, First Mats, and LiftMate sit in that bucket. Those are seller guides, not a measurement of these five listings.
What width is usual for a euro pallet?
About 520 mm to 540 mm across the forks for a pallet of about 1,200 mm by 800 mm. The forks enter from the 800 mm side. A truck near 680 mm does not pass that face.
Can one truck do both, and will 680 mm forks enter a euro pallet?
One truck can serve both at about 520 mm to 540 mm and about 1,150 mm long, if you have checked both openings. A 680 mm or 685 mm fork does not enter a euro pallet from the 800 mm side. Toyota states that directly.
Is 550 mm by 1,200 mm the same as 540 mm by 1,150 mm?
No. It is near the euro width cluster and longer than the usual guide length. COZYBRITE states 550 mm by 1,200 mm and claims UK and euro pallets. The guides do not treat 550 mm as the 680 mm to 685 mm UK-only width.
What if the listing only says 56 cm, narrow, or 380 mm?
56 cm is not the width across the forks until the listing says so. Narrow is not a millimetre. 380 mm by 800 mm is the mini in this set, at 500 kg, not a 450 mm printers truck still rated at 2,500 kg.
