Pallet truck fork size

Updated: 22 October 2026

You know the pallet and you do not yet know the forks. Pallet truck fork size is the width across the pair and the length along it. In the UK that usually means a 1,200 mm by 1,000 mm pallet or an 800 mm by 1,200 mm Euro pallet, not one standard truck. The [electric pallet truck comparison](/hub/lifting-equipment/electric-pallet-truck) lists six amazon.co.uk pages that often print both widths at once. Peter F. used HSE pallet sizes and UK trade guides, checked on 19 October 2026. We did not measure a truck. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Two pallets, not one

HSE guidance PM15 gives the UK pallet as 1,200 mm by 1,000 mm and the Euro pallet as 800 mm by 1,200 mm. A UK pallet is often taken from the 1,000 mm face. A Euro pallet's narrow entry is the 800 mm face. The truck that slides into one pallet stops against the blocks of the other. Measure the gap between the blocks on the pallet you enter this week. If the site uses both, decide whether one truck must do both. Capacity and battery stay on the electric pallet truck buying guide.

Width decides whether the forks go in

LiftMate and AJ Products both put about 680 mm across the forks for a UK pallet and about 540 mm for a Euro pallet. Around 450 mm is a display or half pallet, a different truck from this comparison. A truck at about 680 mm to 685 mm will not go into the 800 mm side of a Euro pallet. The blocks sit inside that 800 mm. BiGDUG allows 540 mm to 680 mm for a UK pallet, which is a looser claim. If you enter the 800 mm side, stay near 540 mm to 550 mm. One truck for both is about 540 mm across and about 1,150 mm long. A listing that prints 550 mm and 685 mm in one bullet has not made that choice.

Length is how much of the pallet you carry

Trade guides treat about 1,150 mm as the length for both a UK pallet and a Euro pallet. About 1,000 mm is the shorter UK length for a tight aisle. About 1,220 mm is for the 1,000 mm entry when you want the tips further under the deck. HallmarkFIX's rule of thumb is that the forks should support at least two thirds of the pallet. A 1,150 mm fork under a 1,200 mm deck does that. None of the six listings states a lowered height, so do not paste a dealer figure of 65 mm to 85 mm onto these ASINs.

What the six listings print

Read a paired width as not chosen. B0H6SC3366 prints 560 mm and 685 mm, and 1,150 mm and 1,220 mm. B0HCZK4FJW prints the same pair and shares an image. B0H33BGVVS and B0HHS95GVZ print 550 mm and 685 mm by 1,150 mm. B0HHS768KT is the only bullet with a single width, 550 mm by 1,150 mm, near the Euro compromise. The title also says 45 in by 22 in. B0DPYTYK18's bullet says 685 mm by 1,150 mm, the UK-pallet width that will not enter a Euro pallet's 800 mm side, and the title says 46 in by 26 in. Who should skip each listing is on the best electric pallet truck page.

Which pair to ask for

If you only handle UK pallets, ask for a single width near 680 mm and a length of about 1,150 mm, or about 1,000 mm if the aisle is the limit. If you only handle Euro pallets from the 800 mm side, ask for a single width near 540 mm to 550 mm and about 1,150 mm long. If you must buy one truck for both, that narrower pair is the compromise. A listing that offers both widths has not made it for you.

Common questions

What width fits a UK pallet?
About 680 mm across the forks, for the 1,200 mm by 1,000 mm pallet in HSE PM15, entered from the 1,000 mm face. Trade guides use that width so the forks sit inside the blocks and carry the deck. A listing that also prints 550 mm has not confirmed you will get the wider pair.
What width fits a Euro pallet?
About 540 mm to 550 mm if you enter the 800 mm side of an 800 mm by 1,200 mm Euro pallet. The opening is the limit, not the overall length of the pallet. A 680 mm or 685 mm truck is the usual UK-pallet size, and it is the one that stops on those blocks.
Can one truck do both?
Yes, with a compromise. The trade pattern is about 540 mm wide by about 1,150 mm long, so the forks still enter the Euro side and still reach most of a UK deck. You support less of the wider pallet than a 680 mm truck would. Buying a page that prints both widths is not the same compromise.
Why do listings show 550 mm and 685 mm?
Because the page is offering two trucks, or it has pasted both sizes into one model, and you cannot tell which. B0H6SC3366, B0HCZK4FJW, B0H33BGVVS and B0HHS95GVZ all do a version of this. Ask which pair ships, or leave the listing. Do not order and plan to send one size back.
Will 685 mm forks enter a Euro pallet?
Not the 800 mm side. The forks are wider than the gap between the blocks. They can still suit a UK pallet entered from the 1,000 mm face. If your week is mixed and you only have the wide pair, you will be turning Euro pallets to a face they may not be built to take, or you will be stuck.
