Yard Force robot lawn mower buying guide

Updated: October 2026

Before you compare prices, measure only the grass the robot will maintain and look at the steepest route it must travel. A Yard Force robot lawn mower buying guide should settle area, slope, navigation and package contents before you open a listing, because a low headline price is irrelevant if the battery is missing or the mower cannot recognise your border. The seven rows in our [Yard Force robotic lawnmower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/yard-force-robotic-lawnmower) include one Yard Force model and six alternatives from the same amazon.co.uk extract. They are not interchangeable. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Measure the lawn before trusting the area number

Measure the mowable grass in square metres, excluding beds, paving, the house and any part the robot cannot reach. A 10 m by 12 m rectangle is 120 m². Include a separate zone only if the mower can travel to it or you will carry it. The rated area is a maintenance capacity, not one battery charge. Yard Force rates the Compact 300RBS for up to 300 m² and about 60 minutes of running. It does not clear 300 m² in that hour. A retailer rule of thumb is about 20% headroom, so a measured 240 m² lawn points towards a nominal 300 m² machine. Bosch names 100 m² for the VisiMow 18V-100, YARDCARE names 150 m² for the V100, SUNTEK names 250 m² and Yard Force names 300 m². WORX names 600 m². The V3 states no area. If your grass is in the lower band, the small UK garden guide stays on 100–300 m² and the edge you will still trim.

Read slope figures as percentages

The Compact 300RBS listing and Yard Force product page state 30%, roughly 17 degrees, not 30 degrees. A 30% gradient rises 30 cm over 100 cm of horizontal travel. Measure the steepest section, including the route back to the charging station. The V100 states 20° in its bullet. SUNTEK is printed as both 35° and 35%, and those figures are not equivalent. The Bosch and WORX extracts do not state a slope. If the bank is near a claimed limit, confirm the unit with the manufacturer. Reviews for the 300RBS mention getting stuck on moss. Skip a robot if the only route is terraced or steeper than the confirmed rating.

Choose wire, camera or LiDAR

The Yard Force Compact 300RBS uses a boundary loop. A closed wire stays useful under trees or beside an edge that is hard to see. Once installed, the boundary does not depend on the mower deciding whether a dark bed is still grass. The YARDCARE V100 and V3, Bosch VisiMow, WORX WR206E and SUNTEK SRM2025 are sold as wire-free vision models. A camera works best where grass meets a raised kerb, wall or contrasting surface. A level flower bed or drop-off is a poorer case. Compare the two approaches in the boundary wire or wire-free robot mower guide. The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 800 claims LiDAR plus AI vision without an RTK station, and this row has no rating or review text in the extract. None of the seven listings is identified as RTK.

Check what the price leaves out

Compare a working system, not the mower-body price. The Bosch VisiMow is about £296, but the title says without battery and the included components list only the mower. Add a POWER FOR ALL 18 V battery and charger if you do not already own them, then compare with the YARDCARE V100 at about £349.99 or the Compact 300RBS at about £428.06. The V100 states an 18 V 4 Ah detachable battery, yet its charger is not named. The MOVA is about £649 and has no battery specification or review line in the extract. The 300RBS has 2.8 from 28 UK-headed reviews, the V100 has 4.0 from 32 with only two UK headers in the extract, and Bosch has 4.1 from 72. These are signals, not lab results. The conditional best choices say who should open each listing.

Common questions

How big a lawn is the Compact 300RBS for?
Yard Force rates it for lawns up to 300 m², maintained over repeated runs rather than one charge. Measure the grass and leave headroom for an awkward shape or a separate zone.
Is a 30% slope the same as 30 degrees?
No. A 30% gradient is approximately 17 degrees. Listings sometimes mix percentages and degrees, so keep the stated unit when comparing models. If your lawn is near the limit, ask the manufacturer for confirmation rather than converting an ambiguous figure in the mower’s favour.
Do I need an outdoor socket?
A dock-based robot needs a safe supply for its charging station. The cable and socket must suit outdoor use and the manufacturer’s instructions. If no suitable outlet exists, ask a qualified electrician to install one. Do not treat an ordinary indoor extension as a permanent garden solution.
Will a robot mower leave stripes?
These robots maintain grass through frequent passes rather than producing the deliberate roller stripes associated with some pedestrian cylinder or rotary mowers. If strong, uniform stripes are your priority, a robot in this set is likely to be the wrong tool.
What if the listing excludes the battery?
Add the price of the exact compatible battery and charger before comparing totals. The Bosch VisiMow 18V-100 is explicitly sold without both. It is most compelling for an owner already invested in the POWER FOR ALL 18 V system.
When is a robot mower the wrong choice?
Skip one if the grass is meadow length, there is no safe charging arrangement, the lawn has unprotected drops or the only route exceeds the confirmed slope. A robot also does not remove edging work, and children and pets should stay off the lawn while it cuts.
