2mm strimmer line

Updated: October 2026

You have the manual open, and an amazon.co.uk title is offering 2mm strimmer line that will fit most heads. That sentence is the purchase to avoid. This guide is the method when your instructions already allow 2.0 mm: match the millimetre print, ignore another brand’s colour, then buy metres. The seven reels, from about £3.59 to £16.07 on 16 October 2026, stay on the [2 mm trimmer line comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/trimmer-line-2mm). The editorial team updated this on 16 October 2026 from those listings, Husqvarna’s UK size chart, Honda’s nylon-line guide, and Electrical Safety First. Read the manual before the packet

Electrical Safety First tells you to use the line size printed in the instructions. The packet title comes second. A STIHL AutoCut 2-2 is listed for 1.6 mm and 2.0 mm only, so a 2.4 mm or 2.5 mm reel is not inside that pair, even when the seller calls the cord universal. Some petrol manuals state 2.5 mm. If yours does, every card in this set is the wrong diameter. If the manual is silent, stop at the dealer or the maker’s UK page for that model. Once the manual says 2.0 mm, still read the listing’s diameter cell. FEPITO’s title says 2.0 mm by 100 m, and one UK review in that pool describes a 1.6 mm reel. Stars do not prove the gauge in the box.

2.0 mm, 0.080 inch, and colour

A US label of .080 inch is the same conversation as 2.0 mm, not a second size. Multiply 0.080 by 25.4 and you get 2.032 mm, which sellers round to 2.0 mm. Viabrico’s title prints both. Do not treat .095 inch, about 2.4 mm, as a substitute. Colour is a brand code, not a UK standard. Husqvarna lists 2.0 mm round line in green, beside 2.4 mm in orange and 3.0 mm in red. Honda uses green for 2.0 mm and yellow for 3.0 mm. Oregon’s plain 2.0 mm round line in this set is yellow. Honda’s yellow is not Oregon’s yellow. The millimetre line is the check. Colour only helps you see offcuts in the grass.

How much line, in pounds

Length sets the price more than the brand name. On 16 October 2026 the short cards sit at the cheap end of the till and the dear end per metre. Oregon 69-356-Y is £3.59 for 15 m, about 24p a metre. Oregon’s particle-filled 15 m card is £6.99, about 47p a metre, for the maker’s runtime and noise claim, not for metres. The longer reels drop the rate. FEPITO’s stated 100 m is £8.99, about 9p a metre if 2.0 mm arrives, and it comes as a loose hank. Zeqeey’s 150 m spool is £14.99, about 10p a metre, and 492 ft agrees with 150 m. Oregon 69-358-Y is £16.07 for 127 m, about 13p a metre. A rule of thumb, not a measured season, is that a gravel edge can empty a 15 m card. Frequent cutting suits the 127 m or 150 m reel. Viabrico at £11.99 does not get a pence-per-metre figure, because the length in the extract does not settle.

What to leave for the other pages

Shape is a separate decision. Six of these extracts are round or unnamed. Only Viabrico is square. Whether a square 2.0 mm corner will enter your eyelet is on round vs square strimmer line. A cordless head is a separate limit again. Some battery manuals allow 2.0 mm and the WORX WG163E.2 manual does not. That case is on 2mm line battery strimmer. Winding, the soak, and the guard knife are not part of choosing the reel. This page stops at the purchase: the manual first, then 2.0 mm in millimetres, then the metres you will actually use.

Common questions

Will any 2 mm line fit my strimmer?
Only if your manual allows 2.0 mm. A title that says the line fits most heads is the seller’s claim. AutoCut 2-2 is published for 1.6 mm and 2.0 mm. A 1.65 mm cordless head, and a 2.5 mm petrol manual, are different cases.
Is 2.0 mm the same as 0.080 inch?
Yes, as a label. 0.080 times 25.4 is 2.032 mm, which listings round to 2.0 mm. Viabrico prints both. It is not the same as .095 inch, about 2.4 mm. Stay with the millimetre your UK manual prints.
Does green always mean 2 mm?
No. Husqvarna and Honda use green for 2.0 mm, and Honda uses yellow for 3.0 mm. Oregon’s 2.0 mm round line in this set is yellow. SOL, FEPITO, and Zeqeey are green and still state 2.0 mm. Buy the millimetre print.
Is a 15 m card worse than a 100 m reel?
It is worse on pence per metre and better on cash if you trim rarely. Oregon’s plain 15 m card has a named part and a one-year warranty. FEPITO’s stated 100 m is cheaper per metre and arrives as a hank, with a star pool that includes a 1.6 mm description.
What if the manual says 2.5 mm?
Stay at 2.5 mm. Every reel on the main comparison is 2.0 mm. Fitting a thinner line because it is in this table changes the feed the head was set up for. This guide does not rank 2.4 mm, 2.5 mm, or 3.0 mm.
Should I read the star rating before the diameter?
Read the diameter first. FEPITO’s 4.5 from 7,661 ratings includes a UK review of 1.6 mm line. Viabrico’s 4.6 from 7,333 ratings sits on a square reel whose length does not settle. A high score does not tell you the millimetres in your hand.
