Best cordless hedge trimmer UK: a fit for each hedge

Updated: October 2026

You want one cordless hedge trimmer for a small garden hedge, one for a hedge above your shoulder, and one for shrubs, each with a reason to leave it on the shelf. UK round-ups often name a STIHL HSA 50. That machine is not one of the eleven amazon.co.uk listings checked on 15 October 2026. There is no single best cordless hedge trimmer in this set. There is a fit for each job, and a skip. Every price is in the [Stihl hedge trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/stihl-hedge-trimmer). Written on 16 October 2026 from those listings, without a lab test. Amazon links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

The usual UK best is not in this Amazon set

Expert Reviews (18 June 2026) called the STIHL HSA 50 its favourite of 2026: a kit around £259, a bare tool around £159, a 50 cm blade, 16 mm capacity and 2.9 kg. Which? prints 30 mm tooth width on the HSA 50. STIHL UK says it takes branches up to 18 mm. The 30 mm figure belongs to the petrol HS 45. Those pounds are not this amazon.co.uk shelf. Just Lawnmowers listed an HSA 50 body at £124 on 16 October 2026. The body needs an AK battery, and that pack does not fit the platforms here. A pick on this page can only be one of the eleven. The order of checks is the Stihl hedge trimmer buying guide.

Small hedge: Bosch UniversalHedgeCut 18V-50

For a medium hedge you can reach from the ground, the top pick is the Bosch UniversalHedgeCut 18V-50. On 15 October 2026 it was £139.94, with a 50 cm blade, 20 mm spacing, a 2.5 Ah battery and charger in the box, and a listed weight of 2.6 kg. Some jams remain, and one 2.5 Ah pack ends the session unless you already own another POWER FOR ALL battery. Skip it if you already own XR batteries and want the 25 mm gap on the DeWalt 60 cm at £199, tool only. The best value for soft growth is the Flymo at £41.99, with 12 mm in the highlight and 15 mm in a bullet. A missed year wants about 20-25 mm, which is why the Bosch is the small-hedge pick.

Tall hedge: Worx WG252E

Above shoulder height, the Worx WG252E is the complete pole: £129.99, a 2.0 Ah battery, charger and shoulder strap, a 45 cm blade, a 16 mm gap and a stated reach up to 2.8 m, with 4.3 stars from 479 reviews. Owners buy it to stay off a ladder, and they call it heavy or top-heavy once the shaft is up. Skip it above 2.8 m, on stems thicker than 16 mm, or if you will not hold that weight. The Ryobi OPT1845 is the pole to skip as this pick: £106 tool only, about 5.6 kg, about 2.9 m. It makes sense only with a ONE+ battery already in the shed. Strap and reach are on the hedge trimmers for tall hedges page.

Shrubs: Bosch AdvancedShear 18V-10

For box, a shrub and a grass edge, the Bosch AdvancedShear 18V-10 is the fit: £107.46, a 20 cm blade, a 2.0 Ah battery, a shrub blade and a grass blade, listed at 1.45 kg. One review reported rust quickly, so dry the blades. The DeWalt 20 cm XR at £93.95 is the same job only if you already own an XR pack. It states no cutting capacity, and it is tool only. Skip both shears on a long privet run. The shear is a shaping tool. The bar is a hedge tool.

What not to treat as the winner

A 4.5 from 33 reviews on the DeWalt 60 cm does not outrank a 4.3 from 235 on the Bosch handheld. The DeWalt 60 cm at £199, the DeWalt 20 cm at £93.95 and the Ryobi pole at £106 are bodies. Add the battery you do not own before you call one of them cheaper than a kit.

Common questions

Is the STIHL HSA 50 one of these Amazon hedge trimmers?
It is not one of these eleven ASINs. STIHL says it takes branches up to 18 mm, at about 2.9 kg, with up to 50 minutes on an AK 10. Just Lawnmowers listed the body at £124 on 16 October 2026. That AK battery does not fit the platforms in this Amazon set.
When is the Flymo the wrong best?
The Flymo is the wrong pick when the stems are thicker than the 12 mm highlight or the 15 mm bullet, or when the hedge is large enough that reviewers wanted a second battery or a more powerful bar. A missed year of growth is closer to 20-25 mm. That is the Bosch 50 cm bar, not the Flymo.
Which pole is a complete kit, and which is tool only?
The Worx WG252E at £129.99 includes a 2.0 Ah battery, a charger and a shoulder strap, with a stated reach up to 2.8 m. The Ryobi OPT1845 at £106 excludes the battery and charger. Buy the Ryobi only if a ONE+ pack is already yours, and only if you can handle about 5.6 kg at full stretch.
What should I buy for shrubs rather than a long hedge?
The Bosch AdvancedShear 18V-10, at £107.46 with a 20 cm shrub blade and a grass blade, is the shrub tool in this set. The DeWalt 20 cm XR is the same sort of job if you already own XR batteries. A 20 cm blade does not finish a long privet run.
Does a 4.5-star DeWalt with 33 reviews beat a 4.3-star Bosch with 235?
The star average alone does not decide it. The DeWalt 60 cm has fewer reviews, a wider 25 mm gap, and a tool-only price of £199. The Bosch UniversalHedgeCut has 235 reviews, a battery in the box, and a 20 mm gap on a 50 cm bar at £139.94. Match the gap and the battery you already own.
