Cordless shrub shears buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You are looking at a short lavender row, and the amazon.co.uk title says hedge trimmer. In this set that title usually means a one-handed cordless shear with a shrub blade around 10–15 cm, not a 45 cm bar for a boundary. This cordless shrub shears buying guide is the checklist before you pay: the stated cut, what the box actually charges with, and whether the review count is one sample or two colours sharing a pool. Prices and the eleven-row grid sit on the [hand hedge trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/hand-hedge-trimmer). A qualifying purchase through our links can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A hand hedge trimmer here is a battery 2-in-1: one head for soft shrub tips, the other for a lawn edge. The Royal Horticultural Society points hand shears at smaller hedges and a powered trimmer at large ones, and it sends large leaves such as cherry laurel to secateurs. STIHL’s HSA 26 talks about an 8 mm branch line. That tool is not one of these eleven ASINs, so do not paste its 8 mm claim onto a listing that leaves thickness blank. Volts run from 3.6 V to 21 V. A higher number is not a thicker cut. Flouritech is 21 V and states only 6 mm. If the hedge is long and woody, read shrub shears vs hedge trimmer before you compare chargers.

Stated cut and blade length

Read the millimetre line before the volts. Both WORKPRO colours print 7.8 mm. Bryze and Enventor print 8 mm. Flouritech prints 6 mm. Bosch, both LIGO models, and all three POSENPRO listings do not print a thickness, so that field stays n/a. About 8 mm of soft growth is a rule of thumb from the printed lines and from STIHL’s HSA 26 copy, not a cut we measured. Shrub blades are mostly 10–15 cm. Flouritech states 22.7 cm. The LIGO 7.2 V listing says 190 mm and the LIGO 3.6 V says 100 mm. Grass widths around 70–131 mm tidy an edge, not a lawn.

Charger, voltage, and weight

A charger is named for both LIGO models, both POSENPRO 7.2 V colours, the POSENPRO 12 V, and Flouritech. Both WORKPRO colours and the Bryze ship a USB-C cable and say the mains brick is not included. Enventor includes a USB-C cable and does not say whether a brick is in the box. Bosch’s included-components line does not name a charger. A USB lead is not a BS 1363 brick. Keep both weight lines and do not average them. WORKPRO’s bullet says 370 g without blades. Bosch is 530 g. The POSENPRO 12 V is 1.7 kg. Only Flouritech, at about £53.28, lists two removable 4500 mAh packs.

Review depth without double-counting

Count each shared pool once. Bosch is 4.3 from 3,438 reviews. The two POSENPRO 7.2 V colours both show 4.1 from 1,488, so that is one pool. The two WORKPRO colours both show 4.3 from 762. The LIGO 7.2 V is 4.4 from 534. After that the samples thin out: Enventor 101, POSENPRO 12 V 57, LIGO 3.6 V 52, Flouritech 21, and Bryze 4. A 5.0 from four reviews is not equal to 3,438. Do not rank Flouritech on its 23,000 rpm catalogue line. Named picks are on the best cordless shrub shears page.

When these checks say no

Put the shear down when the hedge is long, woody, or years overdue. A 12 cm blade will not stand in for a trimmer bar. Laurel shreds under a shear, so secateurs are the RHS route. Thrive says stop above shoulder height, and do not cut in the wet. The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 makes it an offence to damage a nest in use or being built. Northern Ireland has the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985. RSPB treats March to September as the main nesting season. GOV.UK’s 1 March to 31 August restriction is for agricultural hedgerows in England, not a private garden hedge by default. The first pass is on how to use cordless grass shears.

Common questions

Is 7.2 V better than 3.6 V for a small hedge?
Voltage is not a thickness rating. The 21 V shear in this set states a 6 mm cut, while the 3.6 V WORKPRO rows state 7.8 mm. A small soft hedge can suit a 3.6 V shear. A long woody one needs a different tool even at 21 V.
Does the box include a UK 3-pin charger or only a USB lead?
It depends on the row. Some kits name a charger. WORKPRO and Bryze state a USB-C cable with no mains brick. Enventor’s brick is not stated, and Bosch’s amazon capture does not name a charger. Do not assume a BS 1363 plug is in the carton.
What blade length do I need for a short lavender row or a long hedge?
A shrub blade around 10–15 cm is enough for lavender tips and a box ball in several passes. Flouritech’s 22.7 cm is the longest here and still short of a 45 cm bar. Working more slowly with a 12 cm blade does not turn it into one.
Why do two colours show the same review count?
The green and pink WORKPRO listings share 762 reviews. The green and orange POSENPRO 7.2 V listings share 1,488. Adding the counts double-weights one set of opinions. Pick the colour, and judge the tool once.
The listing weight and the bullet weight do not match. Which one do I use?
Keep both and do not average them. WORKPRO’s 370 g bullet is without blades. The orange POSENPRO 7.2 V item line says 1.01 kg against a 0.43 kg bullet. The tool in your hand includes the blade you have fitted.
